If anyone knows, is it possble that the HI-MD device will act as a disk drive with the ability to store regular data files up to the capacity of the 1GB HI-MD Disc. Also with the HI-MD will it be able to upload 100% audio data from HI-MD and MDs to the PC. Is this finally what we've been waiting for plus more.

apparently yes the Hi-MD units will be able to act as a high capacity storage device for both data and audio...and yes it also will (hopefully) sport a new uploading feature that is faster than realtime...so yes this would be very good...too bad it still uses the dreaded internal li-ion battery....

Uploading and data file transfer to and from PC will be standard on all HiMD portables. Uploading will be available for recording made via mic-in and line-in. It remains to be seen whether optical recordings will be allowed to uploaded, but probably not.

Only the high-end portables will use LiIon batteries, all others use good old AA.

Have a look at these Hi-MD units.

From pictures, it appears the MZ-NH900 will use Ni MH gumstick batteries. I think the PC-HiMD download speed will be essentially the same as the current crop which max out at 64 x. The 100 x real time spec is no doubt for the low bitrate atrac3plus which would be that fast on the N10 today if it were compatible. Still, it's pretty fast. Not a problem in my book.

Will Hi-MD's uploading-to-PC allow for SP-quality uploaded audio? Or will it be like NetMD, where the best you can do is LP quality? Not sure if this has been covered before, or if anyone knows the answer to this.

(re: previous post) erm :?: :?: :?: anyway regarding ur post about u/l i would think it could do SP u/l...but details are sketchy atm...(not 100% sure yet since no one has a test unit to review) but were u thinking about NetMD d/l and not u/l?? as u can u/l SP (as well as LP) recordings thru NetMD (but in real-time) but u can't d/l in SP quality thru NetMD...

Sorry...was indeed thinking about Net MD download and not upload.....Sad to see that, at 27, Alzheimers is setting in me already.

Wow Majestic!!!

you've pretty much tried them all. Which one has the best sound in your opinion? Wow Onkyo must be a old model. Which one out of Panasonic and Aiwa would you say has the best sound?

like actorlife said: "WOW"! You have (had) a nice collection of players over the years, but why do people keep changinf their players over and over? For example isn't the MZ-N10 the best player around?

Majestic, I have Cmt-C5 also, how do you find it? Have you used the optional netmd function? Do yout friends like it? Do you know anyone else who has it? From what I have been told I have the only one in Finland biggrin.gif

.... the lights are so cool in the dark.... 8)

the N10 is a nice recorder but i do prefer my N1 because of its sound quality as well as the Gumstick battery...but i like to change my units ever so often because i want to know the difference between the newer units and that of the old...

regarding ur 2nd q's i have not purchased the optional PC Link for the C5 as i don't think it would've done much in terms of recording time...since this unit didn't support NetMD in the first place the PC Link that was available would have just made a connection to the PC so it made titling and recording a little easier...but it is still done via real-time (if i remembered correctly)...i like it it's a nice unit...but there are a few ppl in Aus that would have had this unit...^^ and yes the blue light looks cool in the dark...

yep the Onkyo was an very old unit and i'm surprised i managed to score one from Japan...out of the models from Panasonic and Aiwa i would probably say that the MR100/MJ70 and AM-F70 had really good sound....

The many units are now a liability, as I have only sold a few and handed down a few others so now they are lying all over the house. There is one or two not listed. This causes some 'splaining to be done when I have to buy a new one, as will be the case with HiMD when it arrives. I have a similar problem with digital cameras.

For headphones I usually use my Etymotic ER-4S phones, as MD is used mostly when I travel on planes or trains. I also have Grado SR-80's for use at home and various different earbuds from Sony. Have tried Koss porta pro also. I recommend Grado 60's and Ety's.

Hi Leland and Majestic,

Hehe i guess we are MD collectors! Seems like one has more than the others new sound, nice design new options on and on. What Cameras do you guys own? I'm think of getting the Canon 300D! I have an old Canon A1 & T-5 (wish i could find the manual ) which i bought used. I also like the Koss PortaPro they are my favorite headphones so far! The EX71SL (highly improved over the EX70's) are cool too. The Grados R60 are on their way!
