dragon84
So, what's your version of the perfect MD? - Hi-MD format/capacity - Being able to just copy and play a GB worth of MP3's - Be able to detect it as bottable CD-RW drive. Can you imagine hooking your Hi-MD to a USB 2.0 port, downloading a copy of Knoppix Linux and 'burning' it onto a MD, then being able to hook your MD player up to any computer's USB port and booting from it? And if you wanted to install software out on workstations or something, you could just copy the original CD over to a Hi-MD and not have to worry about losing your CD's when you go to a LAN party or on an installing run or something. Damn. I want. 'Bout the rest of ya'all?
Fray Adjacent
Yeah, I'd like all of that stuff. The things I like about it as it is are: MD type media. Superior to CDs, IMHO. Now we'll be able to fit much more on the same size media. Data capability. 1GB per disk will do me well for backing up things I want to have on removable media. I can back up my website and all it's files and pictures on one HiMD, and back up many other things on HiMDs as well. There are a lot of features that I will probably not use, like recording from a mic, that are still pretty neat. Uploading recordings to PC is pretty neat, and I may occasionally use it, but I could live without it. The other things you mentioned would be pretty dang cool, but I could live without. I think the HiMD will be a much more versatile medium than MD. I hope it catches on more in the future.
Guest NRen2k5
My perfect MD unit would be: - Hi-MD - Capable of transferring from PC as fast as the USB port can feed it the data (probably well in excess of 128×) - Capable of playing MP3's - Endowed with optical input and output
woppin
+ firewire praps change the shape so it could be a mobile phone too, but it would be a bit awkward i guess. mmm...firewire...
Guest NRen2k5
Phone? No way! Cell phones get outdated much more quickly than portable audio players, so in effect adding a phone to a minidisc unit would be limiting its coolness factor. crazeybt1
yeah but nowadays everything have this tendancy to outdate quickly todate only thing i'd say not going down that road is pc speaker systems...altho..n sound cards..
jadeclaw
The perfect MD looks like this: and has all Hi-MD features. The other one is of course a 3.5 " drive for the comp...
alieninhead
All the features listed rock. I'd use all of them probably at some point. And yeah, I agree with Fray--MDs are much better than CDs. What has always annoyed me with CDs was the need to open up a data session, close a data session. Do you have to do that with floppies, zip disks, MDs? Hecks no. CDs just weren't thought about from the consumer perspective of using as a storage medium until it was too late. Now DVD-RAM..now that is something done right. If only there were more compataible players out there for it... ~a.i.h.

Breepee
Being able to just copy and play a GB worth of MP3'sI'd like it to operate just like any mp3player, when connected to PC drag-n-drop the files, and I addition record files via analog/optical in (preferably ogg, since it beats all other formats out there. And a lossless, but compressed codec ala FLAC or Monkey Audio would be very nice too.
