  1. Just checked the disc mode and they both read "Hi-MD Hi-SP" when inserting a blank 74min MD.
  2. Yep, using the same USB cable with the two machines side by side. I think you have a valid point in Q1, its as though the two recorders are configured differently, to be honest, i'm not much a "techie", so i dont know how to check the settings. There aren't any unusual progs on my computer to interfere with the USB connection.
  3. Yep, both machines can play the disc, only one can upload it onto sonicstage. I was always under the impression that the MZ-RH1 can upload any disc in any format, if thats not the case what are its limitations supposed to be ? They seem a rather unreliable (or maybe just unpredictable !) unit to me.
  4. Hi, for instance, i have a pre recorded (factory original) MD, the one MZ-RH1 is able to upload the tracks into sonicstage the one i've just bought cant. Stange, yet both will upload any 1GB disc that i have.
  5. Thanks for your reply Azureal. I bought this player as back up for my current MZ-RH1, that one uploads any old disc in any format, seems strange this one is reluctant to do the same, apart from H-Md discs and my own recordings.
  6. Hi, Recently bought a MZ-RH1 off an aution site and whilst it records/plays and uploads Hi-MD discs onto my compiuter, it wont upload my old 74/80 min discs unless i've recorded them myself. Is there something in the settings that i'm missing ? Cheers.
  7. Hoooorraaaay..... finally got my MZ-RH1 back from Sony and it actually works now ! ..... Sent it off before Christmas and was returned early January having had a new laser fitted, but they hadn't fixed the fault, and it even came back with the plastic trim alongside the battery compartment hanging off, as the plastic retaining lugs were broken.... so much for quality control ! Returned it to Sony again, and this time they fitted a new Main Board, and replaced the plastic trim, and hey presto... i'm back in action....rest assured i'll be working it hard over the next 3 months whilst it's still under warranty !

    Ni-MH Batteries.

Hi, i found this; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NH-14WM-Gumstick-1450mAh-minidisc-battery-Sony-equiv_W0QQitemZ370442925822QQcategoryZ40975QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6058982475721502365 Looks a great deal !

    Ni-MH Batteries.

Hi, Thanks for your suggestions, the one guy was selling used batteries so i'll try a Vapex one. I tend to use my old MZ-R55 for charging the gumstick batteries, its noticeable that whilst a battery might register being half charged in the MZ-R55, it barely powers up the MZ-R909 that i've got !
  10. While i was in my local Sony store yesterday (buying a new TV) i asked about the price for new Ni-MH14 Rechargeable battery and nearly fainted when the shop owner told me they were
  11. I got the silver edition. I wasn't actually aware there were any colour choices for this model until you mentioned it, so having just looked at the equipment browser on minidisc.org i was more than a little surprised to see there was also a Red version !....i wonder how many of those were sold ?
  12. Thanks for your support . I've posted it off today, so I'll let you know what happens !
  13. Oh well, after some bargaining with the seller i've kept the MZ-RH1 !....am i nuts ?.... He gave me a partial refund, which means the player has cost me
  14. You may remember me a while back making a tongue in cheek request, asking if anyone had a spare charging stand (as if !) for a MZ-DH10P !!, No surprises then, to learn i had little success, so I recently phoned a local Sony store, and after checking their system, they informed me that (amazingly) there was ONE in the UK at a northern branch at a cost of
  15. Alas, i've had to admit defeat with this maddening piece of electronics wizardry, and have instructed to vender to collect the MZ-RH1 on Wednesday. Better news on my appeal for a cradle for my MZ-DH10P.....i'll give the forum an update on that one in a couple of days.
  16. Still nothing doing i'm afraid, just the same whirring and clicking noises as previous.. I've sent the trader an email, so we'll see what he has to say for himself.
  17. Replaced the battery with the one in my NH1. Now on charge !...watch this space...!
  18. Just tried running it off the mains without success i'm afraid. Just checked the serial number against the one on the box, in case it was a 'ringer', but everything's in order. As i say, all the accessories are sealed up and the latest paperwork in the box is '2008', just feel the need to get it fixed, as it would be such a waste to bin it. I think i'll make the seller a minimal offer/partial refund and see if i can get it fixed.
  19. I've just pressed them both down a few times with a pencil rubber, but still no joy. One microswitch appears higher than the other, i assume thats normal.
  20. Thanks again for your help. Overall the results are inconsistant, sometimes you can hear (what i presume to be) the laser scanning the disc before recording 'Read Error', other times the 'No Disc' message is shown straight away. I phoned Sony on Friday for a quote, and their standard charge is
  21. Hi Stephen, thanks for your response. I've just been trying a 1GB disc in the recorder and sometimes get quite different results than with a standard 80 min minidisc. After inserting a 1GB disc, the RH1 straight away comes up with 'No Disc', whilst when inserting a 80 min disc the RH1 usually tries to read the disc for 30secs before showing 'Read Error', and if i try and record, it goes through the motions of recording, giving the recording levels etc. Then once recording stops gives up the message 'Data Save' followed by 'Rec Error'. It's yet to read any disc inserted into it.
  22. Thanks for your post Hungerdunger. I guess i'm a little reluctant to send it back, as it was such a 'bargain' price, which i'll struggle to see again anytime soon, so i feel i've nothing to lose by trying to fix it. The seller deals in all types of electicals, so wont know if i've tried fixing it or not.
  23. Hi, I've just purchased a MZ-RH1 from ebay, cosmetically in excellent conditon with some of the boxed items still in their original packaging, but my excitement was tempered when the player showed up 'Read Error' on the screen. I could of course return the item, but having read on this forum that the problem may be solved by accessing the service manual and activating the 'Test Mode', i feel i have nothing to lose. I'm not particularly well versed in minidisc repairs so would appreciate any tips/hints as to how i go about bringing the machine back to life. Thanks in advance.
  24. I've had a couple of MZ-R91 MiniDisc recorders and found them to be the noisiest players when reading discs, or am i just imagining things ?
  25. Alas, cant really see there being a revival of the humble MiniDisc, sadly the publics 'romance' with buying/owning music has died. Its probably a 'generation' thing, but the excitement of visiting a record shop and buying the latest release from your favourite artist is a thing of the past, where's the fun in downloading tracks from i-tunes etc ? when instead you could be sitting for hours reading sleeve notes and deciphering lyric sheets. Similarly the accompanying music players have become so simplistic that they dont need a manual to operate them. Confronted with an operators manual of biblical proportions is not going to interest todays youngsters when they expect all the necessary info to be contained within a text message. Its been noticeable to me that a lot of the later day MiniDisc players ( i'm thinking MZ-RH910, MZ-B10) that you see on ebay have been used by students at University to record lectures etc, i'm just wondering whats todays 'weapon of choice' is for students ? I've always considered the MiniDiscs recording capabilities have been its srongest selling point, and why my local Sony Centre still sells MiniDiscs and the MZ-RH1. So maybe all is not lost !
