  1. How does its costs for shipping to France ? For the database, I started a topic and made a list file :
  2. For minidisc "technicians" (amateur or professional). You know that Minidisc Optical Pickup Units are hard to find and often very expensive (brand new). One these webpage you will find matching between a device model and the type of OPU reference used inside. Usefull for repair an unit with an another unit. http://goo.gl/9ZyGE4
  3. I have found this video yesterday : Nice unit.
  4. Quick video how to use the CREC and CPLAY modes : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPkONIIsRqI
  5. Yeah I know, it's a general sentence for maybe concerned visitor readers. So very bizarre. Sorry for the technical terms. Technicians and qualified personal visitors can understand. I don't understand why IOP adjustment is necessary. Even if the value stored (IOP Write) is incorrect with what is printed on the OP the deck had to respond to user commands PLAY, STOP, STANDBY, etc;... Furthermore Alex says that the fantom recorded minidisc is finally well recorded. For my part the optical pickup (or is calibration) is not in fault. You can make a test with CREC mode and see if address number is changing (increasing) on the VFD front display. Check also your "C" error rate at the same time. Begin by making a CREC "IN" mode because when you record on a black minidisc it will begin by the center of the disc.... notice that this mode partially ERASE your minidisc content
  6. Normaly going into service mode cannot corrupt the firmware, event if you didn't know what you do. But if you didn't know what you do, it's not normal that you enter into service mode Firmware (computer program of the deck) is an ASIC, an EEPROM is inside but only for store adjustments values and errors history. Try to enter into service mode and exiting properly by following the how-to in page 4 of the SM. Do steps 1,2 and 9. When you try to play a MD (recorded an another unit) the sound is ok, and the time is running ? For my part I believe that you have an internal problem with the SYSCON part (main IC800 CPU froze), check that all internal ribbon cables are well connected, check for bad solders joint, also check CPU crystal oscillators X800/X801 and good VCC/VDD (well filtered) power to CPU.
  7. Sony transformers (TAM or BANDO) includes an internal thermal fuse on the primary side of the transformer. Sometimes it brokes for no reason or too high temperature ;-). Easy to see if the transformer is faulty : Unit unplugged (no power) and opened : Look at the two pins where AC mains 110/220 volts comes on the transformer. Connect your multimeter between these 2 wires and check for good continuity.... If circuit is closed (multimeter beeping), go to secondary side exploration.... If the circuit is open, the internal fuse is blown... The hardest part is to find the hidden fuse under the yellow plastic rounded tape and put another in place (cutting, soldering, etc...). DO NOT JUMP IT, ALWAYS REPLACE A FUSE BY A FUSE : If you have another serious problem (very bad circuit-shorted transfo by example) it can save you.
  8. "jonathanpatate" in France is "jonathanpotato" here ! Some ideas : For the MZ-RH1, more tests are needed. The payer can play an entire SP recorded disc without problem ? This can detect a sled problem like jim said. Finally, the recorded MD with errors is blank ? Go to "A Solution To Blankdisc And Recording Problems" topic. In first, if it's not dirty inside the player, I think you should try cleaning the lens and the OWH. You can also "test" the OWH coil with a multimeter (4-6 ohms).
  9. Teac MD-10 minidisc recorder bought used for spares/parts/as is for 40 euros. F503 (1A - 250V) blown fuse Sony MD mecha chew belt. Fixing steps : Fuse 503 temporary changed with 100mA for tests Belt replaced Loading top metal plate replaced correctly. This unit is working well now.
  10. jim said right. For further information, you can look at this service bulletin : http://www.minidisc....10_bulletin.pdf It depends on the serial number. It says that mecha. switches has to be replaced, hum in my opinion not necessary just only to be resoldered plus cleaned by injecting contact cleaner solvent inside. But in most case it's too late because gears are damaged by engaged motors (torded teeths) with an empty carriage. And theses parts (3 gears) are unavaible or the price is high. I had the problem with my old MDS-S39 (my first MD deck). Only low used or longly stocked decks can be rescued. Furthermore it takes some hours. Repairing these units are not easy and profitable.
