  1. I'm sure Pocketables messed up. I mentioned in an earlier post they'd probably confused the 'W' and 'X' series. It's a good thing we Sony fans don't believe anything until it's been proved
  2. I think it's safe to ignore the quote of 12 hours, since it clearly belongs to the 'W' series, not the 'X' series. The link Shirley provided states 12 hours for the 'W' series, and nothing for the 'X' series. I think it will have great battery life, Sony daps almost always do, and there's no reason to assume the 'X' series will be any different. It's likely there was confusion over the 'W' and the 'X' series, that's all.
  3. Hey Shirley, thanks for the link to the specs. I'm just downloading it now. I knew it had an FM tuner, which is nice, because the high-end daps should come with one automatically, plenty of cheaper ones do!! As far as the iPoop's concerned, when you think of the kind of market share Apple hold, it's not surprising that the forums are full of Poop lovers/fans/enthusiasts. I think I read somewhere that Apple has around 70% of the market, which leaves only 30% spread between all the other brands! The Touch is really pretty cool, I can see why people love it, but we already know that the ZX won't have even half the capabilities of the Touch. I'd like to know what browser Sony will use, and what features they'll employ to make it fun to use. None of that really matters though, so long as the sq is excellent, the battery life is LONG, and the browser is fully functional. One thing I like about the Touch is that I can use Google mail, sync contacts, bookmarks, apps. you name it (I can sync it!) But I'd sacrifice all that for a decent Sony dap. The Touch is 'novel', but I could live without the extras if I have to. And like you mentioned, Sony daps are pretty reliable. My A808 is still going strong, and my S706 too, I don't think I've ever had an issue with any of mine. I'd still like to know the price of the 32GB though!
  4. Hey all, I was obsessively searching round for more info on battery life, and found THIS: The NWZ-W202 also includes a drag-and-drop transfer, 2GB of storage space, a 30-minute full charge for 12 hours of playback, and a 3-minute quick charge for 90 minutes of playback. Maybe that other website confused the 'W' series with the 'X' series? It would make much more sense if that was true. I just cannot believe that Sony would come out with a direct rival to the iPoop Touch and then give it a laughable 12 hours battery life! So I think the 'W' series has the short battery life, and the 'X' series will equal the iPoop 1G (22 hours) at the very least. Here's hoping...
  5. Stuge, the iPod Touch 1G had 22 hours and the 2G has 36 hours. The Sony is lagging way behind. I hope it's a misprint or something If the 12 hours is quoted with 128kbps files... then we'll be lucky to get much longer than 5 or 6 hours with anything higher than that. I wouldn't mind knowing if that figure was quoted with Wi-Fi switched on, I know it eats a lot of battery... but still, 12 hours seems laughable given that the last dap to produce such dire battery life was the 'B' series.
  6. A 12-hour battery life for audio? What? Surely not. That's little more than the 'B' series, or is it the same? Who cares, it sucks!! http://www.pocketables.net/2009/01/sony-x-series-w.html
  7. But Anthony, it keeps looking at me... I KNOW! There's a real fever building up, and now, with perhaps an earlier release date than we previously thought, we'll start reporting every tiny snippet of news we hear about it, like we used to on Atraclife, ha ha I have the BEST feeling about this one, I really do!
  8. Ascariss, I got mine from Amazon.co.uk for £278 back in October (the 32GB version 2G.) I think it's selling for around £265 at the moment. As I plan to sell it to fund the ZX, I hope it keeps its value enough that I don't end up too much out of pocket. It would be nice to keep both, because I really like all myTouch apps. But I am MORE than happy to sacrifice them for a Sony that sounds better than all the previous models (if it actually does...) I'm always excited when a new Sony's on the horizon, but this just feels like it's going to be T-H-E one
  9. Yeah, if it wasn't for you, we'd never have known about the 'alleged' March 9th release!! THANK YOU! But also, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't still be obsessed with buying a Netbook that I have no need for, ha ha! I can't stop looking at it Oh, Anthony, I'm really sorry to hear that. Christ, the whole financial crisis is just getting worse and worse, it's frightening. I hope you find something, the ZX can be your motivation!!
  10. Hello cn11/Chris, it's really nice to see you here from the 'other' place - I don't know that the review tells us any more than we already knew, but hey - at least I bought the magazine... unlike someone else I won't name in order to protect his identity ... ANTHONY, Hellllooooooo?... Ascariss, your measurements were very accurate. It's really not much bigger than the 829, and it's quite a bit smaller than the Touch. To be honest, it seems like just the perfect size. 58 days and counting...
  11. Sorry about the crease in the page, I couldn't get rid of it But this shows the 'dandruff'...
  12. Make sure you're in the 'sync' window of WMP first. Then drag the songs over... click 'start sync', and you'll see them syncing while you do it. If you're talking about not being able to find them on the player when you're viewing the Walkman through WMP, you just have to click the 'Walkman' tab in the main WMP library, and it will open up the list. If that's not what you're talking about, PM me, and we'll go through it. Sony X-Series Walkman (due March 09) Despite superior sound quality and better battery life, the Walkman has never challenged the ipod's supremacy. In fact, it's never even come close. But the X-series might just have the necessary X-factor. Like the iPod Touch, the X-series features a touchscreen display, Wi-Fi web browsing, YouTube and video. But Sony has also thrown in everylast bit of cutting edge know-how. It's the first MP3 player with digital noise reduction built into the unit (eliminating the need for battery-powered headphones): the first with a pin-sharp, full colour OLED display: the first to allow video recording direct from Bravia TVs, and the first with a complete digital path from solid-state storage to earphone... The result: a pretender to the throne, at last. As hot as... Tokyo's meanest wasabi Size: The X-Series is 50mm wide, so it's more like a slim Nokia than 60mm-fat iPod Touch, and it fits in the hand (and pocket) more easily. What's more, the textured body makes it nicer to hold. The Walkman's screen is half an inch smaller, but because it uses OLED it's very sharp and bright. Verdict: Walkman waif wins A touch of genius: The Walkman is simple to use and features a Cover Flow-style music navigation system. But it doesn't have that multi-touch magic, and there's simply no way the X-series can hope to emulate the huge number of games and applications now available for the iPod Touch. Verdict: Apple takes control Sound investment: We've been telling you that Walkmans sound better than iPods for some time, but the X-series takes things to a new level with sound processing that restores detail in compressed music. Add noise cancellation and some of the best ever bundled headphones and you have a winner. Verdict: A clear smackdown for Sony --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, I noticed a couple of things in the review which someone might be able to clear up. It mentions "a new level with sound processing that restores detail in compressed music" - but isn't that the DSEE feature that's on the earlier models, 82x, 80x, etc? Is noise reduction the same as noise cancellation? They mention it's the FIRST mp3 player to have it built into the unit itself - but the NW-S70x was the first to feature noise cancelling built into the circuitry as I recall. Am I confused with 'reduction' and 'cancellation'? And lastly, the huge photo makes the granite-like surface look like someone with a bad case of dandruff shook their head all over it
  13. oldskoold, I can help you with WMP if you tell me which parts you're having problems with. Anthony, I bought 'Stuff' yesterday, and was about to buy a cute Samsung netbook that I saw in it, when I realised that's not why I bought the magazine --- anyway, the Walkman photo takes up 99% of the page and the review is really brief. I can type the review here if anyone's interested. Shirley, what about just the ZX? It's short, and with no fruit connotations to taint anyone's initial impressions that it might be linked to you-know-what!! Zizone!! Hello
  14. I have to buy it anyway or else I won't be able to post the review here. We have to know what's going on! Shirley, I think 'Touch' and 'Walkman' was mentioned here a while ago, and I think (lots of thinking and not much knowing!), someone else thought it was too Appley with 'Touch' in the title, which I kind of agree with now. Sony is so unique that keeping anything fruity away from the title is just imperative
  15. Well, I can't take deep breaths now, can I?? Not after this titillating piece of 'maybe' news My local doesn't stock 'Stuff', so I'll go to W.H Smiths and have a browse. As long as the mag's not sealed, I can read it!!
  16. OMG!!! March 9th? That's just 7 weeks and 5 days!!! Oh, I hope it's true. I'll try and get the mag tomorrow, THIS, I HAVE to see. And about the direct recording from a BRAVIA, I read that somewhere else too. That would be really good, 'cos I have a BRAVIA! Did the price get mentioned??? 7 weeks and 5 days. We need something like an advent calendar for the countdown
  17. Hey Mark! I thought something like that a while back, but since then I realised I don't want my precious Sony to have anything fruit-related (Apple!) added to its title. People might even think it's a Sony/Apple product... a Sony Applesson???
  18. It was meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - and I agree I should get 5 free ones to review, I mean one free one Even just ZX would do, in fact, anything that can be said in less than three million and seventeen syllables would be just great...
  19. BUT.... it's not a Sony unless you can't pronounce the name!! It must NOT trip off the tongue, it must be hard to remember, and it must definitely not make any sense. Then you know it's a Sony
  20. Okay, back!! Just watched it. It looks very very nice in action. Maybe, just maybe... Sony might bring out an accessory for it by summer 2030. Oh, who am I kidding...
  21. Okay, I just opened it in Google Chrome, it doesn't seem to want to show itself in FF, maybe it's shy Now off to watch it.
  22. Now when I click on the link, there's not even a video button visible. If I click the link again, something else might disappear ... I'll try another browser
  23. Ascariss, the link isn't working for me. As soon as I open it and click on the video button, it disappears
  24. Yes, I'm really that scary, ask anyone! As for AMP, they were offering the S639 for £89 a while ago, is that the one you're talking about? I think Amazon and Argos had it reduced to that amount as well. I don't want 16GB though, I want 32GB And where's the UK pricing???
  25. Me too!!! I have email notification set up for new replies to the audio section, and nothing ever came through (hardly), so I assumed it had become a cemetery of dead news!! I should have known that a new Sony dap would bring us out of the woodwork
