Oooooooooooh!! The close-up pics really show it off! It's beautiful. So I guess the home button functions in exactly the same way as before. And to go 'back' 'forwards' is done via the touch screen or from the top of the unit? It really is quite tiny, and it looks very similar to the 82x series. I see the battery icon has changed position from the bottom of the screen to the top, and the headphone jack is back on the bottom right again, like the 808/818. Other than that, I can't see too many changes (visually) from the other models, except for the unfinished semi-circular home button So anyway, no UK prices???? No idea if we'll get the 32GB version?

HEY, where have you been? I don't remember getting an official request from you asking to stay away for so long Anyway, it's nice to see you again. I agree about the price. I was hoping we'd have some news by now, but there's nothing. And we still don't know what capacity models we'll be getting. Remember when we were trying to find out if we'd get the A829, and Sony UK said we'd only be getting the 8GB version, and then they proceeded to remove the 16GB listings from the website? And then? And then we DID get the 16GB model - so I really hope we get some concrete facts really soon. I hate not knowing.

Hello Shirley I'm going to post this response in the main Walkman thread. I just realised we've been chatting about the new model and we're not in the right threa, ha ha! http://forums.sonyinsider.com/index.php?sh...dpost&p=403

Hi Shirley and Anthony again! Continued from the other thread Yes. I wish more people would come over from Atraclife. Maybe now a new Zeddex is in the pipeline, more people will join in the chit chat. I agree with you about the lack of updates Sony provides. When I had the Zune 80, there were 2 major updates in 6 months - gapless play was implemented and the crappy transfer software was improved. I used to think SS was quirky, until I had to use the awful Zune software, and then I was desperate to use SS again, that's how bad the Zune s/w was. But the latest update was great and the tagging was hugely improved. In effect, it was almost like having a new player, whereas with Sony - you actually have to go and BUY a new player to get LESS features And, like you - I also wonder how easy it would be to put back some of the missing features. I'm taking a guess that because the 81x drag and drop version was so popular, that Sony figured out not enough people cared about them. And if you look at the reviews on Amazon UK, the 808 got hardly any - and the 818 got quite a few. But I think most of the 818 owners were NOT previous 808 owners, they were people who were just waiting for a Sony drag and drop. But the sad thing is... I'll still get the Zeddex even if it IS missing useful features. I just can't get on with the Apple sound at all. I can't deny the Touch has great features and it's very simple to use, but after about half an hour, the sound just annoys me. It's kind of brittle and hard, and then I have to change back to the Sony (which doesn't have the space for all my music!) I'm so addicted to the Sony sound signature, that I'm prepared to give up all the features I want, just so I can have the sound! I really think the new one is going to sound fantastic!

Hi Anthony, nice to see you The thing that excites me the most about the Zeddex (I just can't be bothered to keep referring to it as the NWZ-X1000!!), is the new amplifier they're using in it, it's the same as the one they use in their home stereos and the same that is in my Sony speaker cradle (which sounds really good!) So I'm postive that sound quality is going to be the biggest improvement overall, not that I have any complaints about the sound, but it's nice that they're implementing something new for a change. As far as the capacity is concerned, 32GB is more than enough for me. I have around 25Gb of music on the Touch and that's a LOT of music, so I'm happy with the Zeddex capacity and potential sq improvement. But I would really really like on-the-go playlists. Just today, I was listening to my 808, and it was so nce to add tracks as I went along. I just can't make playlists in advance, because I don't know what I want to listen to until I'm actually ready to listen. I'd also like to be able to delete directly from the player, but I can live without the ratings. And anything gapless I need I'll just transfer in wav/pcm, there's enough room on it to be able to do that. So I'm pretty excited about it I have to say! I think it looks nice (not sure about the Speckledy Hen effect ) - but so long as it sounds REALLY GOOD, and has long battery life, I'll be happy with it.

Hello luca5_j My A829 doesn't ignore the 'The' either. I had to rename all the artists and leave it out It's one of the many features I loved about my A808. And the missing playback history is very noticeable. Now I just get 'new song' pop up!

I read they were going to give out the prices at a conference last night
-
Thanks Richard. It would be nice to get some concrete information about what's going on. It always seems to be a guessing game with Sony as far as release dates are concerned. Anyway, I look forward to more news, like a price!
-
Yes, it doesn't make sense. This is a Sony information site. Before I put the video link on Head-Fi, I came here first expecting to see news about it. And there was nothing! Exactly! And no doubt Apple will have a 64GB Touch out by then, and Sony's offering will look laughable and outdated. I don't understand why they would show something so far in advance of a release date. All it does is disappoint potential buyers. And I guess we won't know which countries will get the 32GB version either until right at the last minute, just like the A829

Sony A829 = 51mm x 93 mm x 9mm Thanks for that Ascariss. Wow, so it's almost exactly the same size, that really is tiny! The iPod Touch is like a brick in comparison. I'm really glad it's smaller! Is the volume control still on the side??? I thought it was on top. Yeah, I'm glad they kept it on the front. It would be a lot more awkward to have it anywhere else. I'm kind of surprised Sony didn't put more effect into the aesthetics, I mean it's their first Touch dap, they should have pulled out all the stops.
-
Wow, it's small! I wonder if it's about the same size as the A829? That would be great! And do we know what controls they've put on the side? Sorry if it's already been mentioned. But most of the controls seem to be on the top, which might be a little awkward to get used to after having them on the side for so long.

Aaaaaaah!! Thank you :) And damn, I want it even more now!
-
I can't believe they even bothered to mention the damn thing if it wasn't going to be available for another six months. This is really disappointing. Why'd they bother to present it at the CES show, just so they had something to announce? Six months is a huge amount of time in a dap's life, and a 32GB Sony won't seem nearly as desirable then as it is right now Of course, the delay won't stop me getting it, but in the meantime, I can whinge about it all I like And now the link to the extra pictures won't open. Do we have to wait till summer for that to be available too???

I posted this yesterday in a 'dead' thread. I didn't see there were two on the same subject ------------------------------ OHHHHH!! I am so having that! I hope to God it has an external rocker, I've been spoiled by that with Sony daps smile.gif And the S-Master digital amplifier will make it pretty powerful I imagine. The CPF-NW001 speaker cradle uses the same technology, and that is incredibly powerful. It totally fills my 14ft x 12ft kitchen with sound and no distortion, and it sounds really good too. Quite often, people ask me where the speakers are, they can't believe it's coming from such a tiny unit. Just the fact Sony are introducing something new into the mix is exciting. I remember on Atraclife, when we followed the NWZ-A829 from the first sketchy designs, all the way through to its release. Although those of us in the UK were never sure if we were even going to get the 16GB version or not, until the last minute. I hope Sony is better prepared this time, and that we all know where it will be released and in what capacities in ADVANCE please Sony!!

I won't be using any headphones with the Touch. I'm just going to use it for its features. I have my Sony and Zune for sound quality
-
Well, I decided to order the Touch!! I really like the idea of being able to check emails and browse the internet without being tied to my laptop. And I think the screen is bigger than the Zune so it would be nice for watching videos on flights. And it looks pretty Having vowed never ever to buy an iPod, I can excuse my backtracking because I won't be using it for music! I'm a bit confused about the 1st and 2nd generation versions though, as the 2nd gen seems to have an external volume control and the other one doesn't. I guess it doesn't really matter, since I won't need to operate it in my pocket at all. And I ordered a case for it at the same time!
-
I wouldn't mind the Touch because it has a ton of really useful features, but I'd definitely never use it for music! I tried out a Nano + Bose n/c headphones recently, and I was really unimpressed with the Nano. It seemed to be weak on power, and the bass was just an indescribable noise. No doubt the Bose didn't help, but even so, if that was Apple's idea of convincing people to buy that particular combination, I'd sack all of them! It was just a horrible match. The Sony's are so small, there's no reason not to keep one solely for music, and the Touch for anything else.

Hey Shirley, welcome!! I beat you here by a few days Me too. I toyed with the idea of selling my 829 a while ago, then decided against it... and then sold it last week! I spent quite a bit of money on home stereo equipment and needed to recoup some money. Now I'm using the 808 again (alongside my Zune), I'd forgotten how much I appreciated on-the-fly playlists, and deleting directly from the player. So I'm happy with my 808 again I'd like to see Sony stop segregating the market so illogically. This country gets Bluetooth, that country doesn't - this country gets noise cancelling heaphones, that country doesn't. This country gets pink, blue and silver models, that country gets black... I don't understand any of that. And I'd also like to see them stop taking away useful features. No one expects a new 'flagship' model to lose features from a previous series. And (I may be in the minority here), but I'd like to see a brand new Sony HD. There's obviously a market for higher capacity daps, and the NW HD5 is still popular today, so why not? i'd love to have one. Ooh, and what about giving their daps a NORMAL NAME??? How does NWZA829 roll off the tongue? It takes me half an hour to type it
