    CD - MD Exact Copy

To do this best, you need a CD player with optical out, input to the optical input of the MD recorder, set to record in SP mode. This will be a real time recording and will yield the best quality recording the N10 is capable of.
  2. Doh! No simpsons here :!: I don't support this idea (sorry, I luvz ya, Bazirker (especially your handle), but I gotta calls it as is sees it) Keep it MD. Keep it in the forums.
  3. Me, how do you support your statement that the DS8 beats the E10? Is this based on the size of the unit per usable music output? Leland: Confirmed SONY BIGOT!!! The E10 is so more cool than any unit Sharp will ever develop... Be suspiscious of this "Sharp sound better than Sony" gag. There is a hugh impact caused by sound volume being higher on Sharp units. Sony has limited this to help us save our hearing. This is serious.
  4. Does the 810 have 64 x recording or is that limited to the N10? Also, don't assume this pricing will hold worldwide. The N505 and N707 were nearly half the price in the US compared to Asia and Europe.

    e10

kalpauly, I have checked these out at the shops in Tokyo, but I don't own one, as I got the N10 instead. I think the E10 would be a sweet player, but I have heard that if you have one, every time you individually gratify yourself sexually, God reduces your auditory acuity, then he kills a kitten.
  6. I would ask them directly at http://www.soundprofessionals.com I have personal experience with the founder of this company and he is completely trustworthy. They are very helpful and you can trust their advice.
  7. Riverden, just a point of etiquette, we don't say "jap" anymore, even though it might be a logical shortening. There are historical implications to this shortening that make it racist and distasteful.
  8. As this product is now as much as 10 years old, you might be out of luck. My MZ-1 had loader issues from month 2. I became very careful with it and eventually sold it to upgrade. Good luck.
  9. Den, you state it well. For that last minute urge to have an MD with "whatever" or two MD's for that matter, the copy speed and jukebox of Open MG is very cool. I have over 4,500 songs in my jukebox, and with my N10, I can make an MD in 5 minutes. Very cool.
  10. christmas, yours is the first mention I have heard of an international version of the N10. Is the english manual a translation from a third party, or is it a proper Sony manual printed in English? Is the software Sonicstage 1.5 in English?
  11. This CDDB issue is difficult to troubleshoot. I have OpenMG Jukebox 2.2 running on Win 2K on my laptop and on my Win XP Home desktop and have not trouble accessing CDDB in either case. I either hook up with a modem from the laptop or I connect using a DSL line at home through a router. So for what it is worth, it is possible. Have you asked you ISP for help? It might be an ISP issue.
  12. I use it with XP Home, no problems. Also have it on a Windows 2000 Professional based system, no problems. (note: "no problems" means it works but freezes up occasionally due to the buggy nature of the software.) Did you find the patch to OpenMG Jukebox on the Sony support site and install it? You might try that.
  13. I believe the Sharp units that DO have NetMD use the Sony OpenMG Jukebox software. Check the minidisc.org equipment browser.
  14. I meant to add: New models notwithstanding, I would be surprised if Sony changed the two items (upload and delete) you mention. Many would be very happy if they did, but I don't think they will. They are very tied to this copyright protection for digital content stuff.
  15. Don't bother looking at etailers in Asia or Europe for the 707 or 505 if you can get it in the US. It is cheaper in the US than anywhere else.
  16. There is a registration process for CDDB. I did this and don't have trouble connecting to the service. I did NOT register the NetMD with Sony. I only set up CDDB with a user name and PW, or whatever it wanted. That might help some.
  17. Sony has models for outside Japan that often are released in the spring. The 505 was announced in late Feb. 2002. There might be some news that time this year. The 505 and the 707 are not generally available in Japan, so you wouldn't see them there first. They are only for other markets, as far as I can tell.
  18. Also, remember to go to the support page for your unit and download the patch for OpenMG Jukebox 2.2 to make sure it is completely up to date. This made my software much more stable.
  19. Andy, I tested this. In quickmode, when you stop playing, wait for the unit to shut down, display is blank, then press play, the playing starts instantly: no delay. When you switch discs, and press play as soon as you close the player, it takes about 4-5 seconds for the play to begin. This is the same whether quickmode or normal mode is selected.
  20. SlimeLord, I'm confused by your comment. If you are not using quickmode, I wouldn't expect your battery to drain. Do you mean you tried putting it in quickmode and it didn't drain, or that you did not ever try quickmode? BTW, I agree with you, quickmode is not worth any battery life trade off to me either. If in quickmode the unit is powering memory, eventually the battery will drain.
  21. I have heard the Sony 888's are better than the other Sony's, but I don't have personal experience with them. They all differ, and listening is the only way to tell. I did not like the Koss 35's I used to have. They were not very comfortable. If you can spend a little more money, you might try the ER-6 eaphones from Etymotic. Check them out at www. headphone.com These guys have a 30 day return policy and excellent customer service. http://www.headphone.com/layout.php?topicI...ctID=0020100100
  22. What bitrate is your brother recording with? That will make a difference in your comparison. Maybe his recorder has tons of storage space, like a Hard Disk or something. I think that LP2 is better than most MP3 recordings, unless the bitrate is very high on the MP3 (over 192). The time you get on a LP2 minidisc should be enough for most concerts.
  23. Check out this topic in the Net MD thread. http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=435 This is a great little program and the latest version includes the ability to copy the titles to the clipboard. From there you could paste them onto title templates for making lables. I used to make cool lables like this manually. I used Powerpoint with some simple graphic elements. I printed onto full page Avery lables, then I could cut out the exact size I needed to fit on the MD. I got 20 or so lables per sheet, I think. Now I just buy the white ES discs and lable them with a pencil

    Registering OpenMG

Don't bother registering. It seems to make no difference. I wondered if it would impact backing up the database, as you have to be connected to the internet for that to work. It doesn't have any impact on it. I did not register and everything works fine.
