Wow, the Commonwealth games closing ceremony looks like it was a spectacular experience.

Can you share some of the problems you found? I would be interested in reading up on that.

x-application is basically a highly evolved version of SonicStage 5, but it handles music, image, and video viewing/sharing, organizing, etc. I have been toying around with the idea of finding someone who can make an English language pack for this software. It would not be that impossible to accomplish.

It sure brings me back to see this specific MD recorder/player after all these years. I loved Sony's aesthetics and color choices in this time frame of their design history.

SI: Sony NEX-3 & NEX-5 Get Firmware Upgrade, New Enhancements
Christopher posted a question in Cameras & Camcorders
Sony Europe has let firmware version 3 loose for NEX-3/5 users that allows using Auto Focus with A-mount lenses (requiring a separate LA-EA1 Lens Mount Adaptor which also was blessed with a firmware of its own). Mac users can also upgrade their NEX cameras. A number of other improvements were added to the mix like: Customizable Soft Key settings. It’s possible to customize functions of two of the three soft keys on the camera’s rear panel. Functions that can be assigned include Shooting Mode, Shooting Tips, Precision Digital Zoom, ISO, White Balance, Metering Mode, Flash Compensation, DRO, Auto HDR, Creative Style, MF Assist and AF Area. Menu start. When ‘Menu’ is selected, there is now the option to display either the main menu screen or the last parameter set. This simplifies quick readjustment of recently-selected functions and settings. Aperture priority with video recording. HD video can be shot while maintaining constant aperture, either in A (aperture priority) mode or in iAuto mode with background defocus activated. This aids the simple creation of beautiful background defocus effects during movie recording. MF Assist. An enlarged image portion can be displayed on screen with user-selectable duration while in MF (Manual Focus) Assist mode. MF Assist operation has also been improved. The previously-chosen magnified image portion can now be maintained when MF Assist is re-selected, making repeated checks of fine focus quicker and more convenient. Check out full press release below. Hopefully Sony US Support for these NEX cameras will follow suit and post the same info, however if you cannot wait, just hit the download link and get your update now. FURTHER ENHANCEMENTS FOR SONY NEX-5 AND NEX-3 CAMERAS Firmware upgrade adds AF support for A-mount lenses A new firmware upgrade adds further operating refinements to the NEX-5 and NEX-3 compact system cameras from Sony. Available now for download1 with versions available for Windows and Mac OS2, the free upgrade adds several performance enhancements. Autofocus is now supported when using the NEX-5 and NEX-3 with 14 lenses from the full range of A-mount optics by Sony and Carl Zeiss that includes telephotos, primes and zooms. Aperture settings can be maintained during HD movie recording, and system menu operation has been streamlined alongside other usability improvements. Registered NEX-5/NEX-3 owners will be advised of the free update via email. Autofocus with A-mount lenses Single-shot autofocus is supported with 14 optional A-mount SAM and SSM lens models3 when used with the optional LA-EA1 Mount Adaptor. Single-shot AF is also possible while in movie recording mode by pressing the shutter button halfway down. Support for AF operation with A-mount lenses also requires a separate firmware upgrade for the LA-EA1. I was surfing around for cool Sony stuff on eBay and ran across this random ad from 1996 of Tyra Banks lying on a pool table with a Minidisc player. Can you guess which unit it is?

SI: Sony Internet TV & Sony Internet Blu-ray Player Revealed at NYC Event
Christopher posted a question in TV
Today was a big day for Sony – the launch of their first TV with a full Internet browsing experience. The newly redesigned SonyStyle.com homepage revealed all the juicy information regarding Sony Internet TV line up and Sony Internet Blu-ray player NSZ-GT1. Both TV and the blu-ray player come with a very handy PS3 controller-inspired remote control (NSG-MR1) featuring QWERTY keyboard and ability to control other Sony devices (AMP, BD, TV). The TV line up as we reported earlier consists of 4 models (24″, 32″, 40″ and 46″) and its core OS is based on Android and come 2011 a flood of all kinds of Apps will be available from the Marketplace. Currently Sony Internet TVs are preloaded with popular apps like Pandora, Netflix, YouTube, Sony’s owned Qriocity, Twitter and many others. Multitasking while watching TV is a major feature which Sony calls Dual View allowing you to watch live TV in a smaller window while you can fire up the Chrome browser or any other app to check on the latest score or tweet about your experience. It’s interesting to note that Sony pioneered a similar feature in its Locationfree products LF-X1/5/11 where you could browse the net (on a very limited basis though) and have a small window open with the content which can be dragged around the screen of the portable TV tablet. All Sony Internet TVs will share the following features: Google TV built-in Google TV built-in Seamlessly search across your television & Internet for content Surf the web while watching TV using Dual View Upgradeable Google TV platform Download apps from Android Market (coming in early 2011) Superior processing power with Intel Inside Easy-to-use RF QWERTY keypad remote with integrated optical mouse Link to select mobile phones (coming this fall) Built-in Wi-Fi Four HDMI inputs and Four HDMI inputs Sony Internet Blu-ray disc player -

Your post almost seems like spam, but I will not assume that quite yet. As for your question, I would venture to say the television cost a thousand or two when it debuted years ago. However, price erosion in the LCD TV market makes the $400 they are asking for this set rather unnecessary.

Recording high-definition movies or shooting still images continuously at a high speed with Sony’s APS-C size image sensor, found in the well-received SLT-A33/A55/A55V, requires a large amount of power. Therefore, if you keep recording continuously, the temperature inside the camera, especially the image sensor, will increase. As the increase in temperature would affect the image quality and overload the internal system of the camera, the camera is designed to turn off automatically. Sony was not exactly clear about this issue when the camera debuted in late August, and only issued this warning several days ago. To their credit, Sony did state from the beginning that these cameras would only be able to shoot up to 29 minutes of video. The A33/A55 are capable of shooting in AVCHD (1080i) and in MP4 (1440 x 1080/640 x 480) formats. The table below shows the approximate recording time for which you can record a movie continuously (until the recording automatically stops) when you start recording after the camera is turned off for a while. You can record a movie for a longer time by setting [steadyShot] to [Off]. Note: The continuous movie recording time varies depending on the ambient temperature and the camera’s usage status before recording. If you turn on the camera and keep using it for composing the subject or shooting still images, the temperature inside the camera increases and the recording time may be shorter than those listed in the table below. When the recording stops due to the high temperature, please leave the camera turned off for several minutes, and start recording again after the camera cools down. For example, if you use the SLT-A55 at 30

Sony recently announced two new miniature “Exmor R” back-illuminated CMOS image sensors with dramatically improved photographic performance including significantly high sensitivity and low noise. This is the first time that “Exmor R” technology has been commercialized for the use in mobile phones, and is an important step in solving the long-standing problem of those devices not being able to take great photos in low light. The IMX081PQ, seen left, is a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor with 16.4 megapixel resolution, and has been a hot topic lately in the gadget world. The sensor is very powerful with its high resolution (4672×3512), but it can also shoot 1080p (30fps) and 720p (60fps) video. One would assume that a module as powerful as this will appear in future mobile devices most likely in late 2011 or early 2012. The IMX081PQ also has the industry’s smallest unit pixel size of 1.12μm, which was achieved by fine pixel fabrication process technology. In theory, when a unit pixel size is made smaller, there are also some issues such as color mixture among smaller unit pixels. Sony solved this problem by implementing a unique formation of photo diodes optimally designed for fine pixel structure. Sony also announced the IMX105PQ, seen right in the image above, which is a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor with 8.13 megapixel resolution and 1080p (30fps) and 720p (60fps) video capabilities. Interestingly enough, the IMX105PQ could very well be the exact Sony 8MP sensor that was rumored to be implemented in the next Apple iPhone, which means that the iPhone 5 could have incredible low light performance (without flash) and 1080p video recording. Several days ago we posted a story about sizing and pricing information for the upcoming family of Sony Internet/Google TV’s set for launch on October 12th. The story was based on a bulletproof source with MSRP’s clearly listed. When Stan showed me the source, I told him it was a slam dunk and to get the post out as soon as possible. We stand by our original reporting of model numbers and sizes, which include four options – NSX-24GT1 (24′), NSX-32GT1 (32′), NSX-40GT1 (40′), and NSX-46GT1 (46′). The news spread like wildfire, and appeared all over the Internet. Several sources have come forward to us after our story with a pricing correction. Unfortunately, our original price quotes on these new Sony Internet TV’s was wrong, and are happy to report it will cost far less than expected. In fact, we have word from a strong source that the NSX-46GT1 (46′) will cost only $1399, which is a far cry from the $1899 we initially reported. The smaller displays in this range should be several hundred dollars less as they go lower. We pride ourselves at Sony Insider in having great coverage of Sony news and endeavors, and take incredible risk in reputation when posting “leaks” and other “insider” information. Unfortunately, errors do happen, and we will work even harder in the future to ensure what we publish is completely accurate. View the full article

It would be cool to look through the service manual and identify the actual parts needed..I'll take a look at it later and see if I can find anything. I imagine you would need very specific tools to fix it though, hehe

Burlesque is an upcoming American contemporary musical film directed and written by Steve Antin starring Cher and Christina Aguilera. The movie is set for release on November 24th and will be distributed by Screen Gems, a subsidiary company of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Christina Aguilera will make her theatrical film and musical debut as the lead character, and this will mark Cher’s first starring role (and musical film) in a decade since 1999′s Tea with Mussolini. Ali (Christina Aguilera) is a small-town girl with a big voice who escapes hardship and an uncertain future to follow her dreams to LA. After stumbling upon The Burlesque Lounge (inspired by Bob Fosse’s Cabaret), a majestic but ailing theater that is home to an inspired musical revue, Ali lands a job as a cocktail waitress from Tess (Cher), the club’s proprietor and headliner. Burlesque’s outrageous costumes and bold choreography enrapture the young ingenue, who vows to perform there one day. Soon enough, Ali builds a friendship with a featured dancer (Julianne Hough), finds an enemy in a troubled, jealous performer (Kristen Bell), and garners the affection of Jack (Cam Gigandet), a bartender and fellow musician. With the help of a sharp-witted stage manager (Stanley Tucci) and gender-bending host (Alan Cumming), Ali makes her way from the bar to the stage. Her spectacular voice restores The Burlesque Lounge to its former glory, though not before a charismatic entrepreneur (Eric Dane) arrives with an enticing proposal. Here is an additional exclusive clip from Burlesque of Christina Aguilera singing “Something’s Got A Hold On Me”: View the full article

SI: How To Quickly Turn The PS3 Into A Great Media Center
Christopher posted a question in PlayStation
The PS3 has been a hot topic recently with the introduction of 3D gaming, and also with the Playstation Move being released the device has become an even more impressive machine. One of the features that I’m surprised is often left out in the advertisements is PS3′s media center capabilities. What I plan to show you here is crash course on how to setup the PS3 as a media center to get the most out of your PS3. I have tried numerous media center applications and the easiest to get up and running in my opinion is PS3 Media Server which is programmed in Java and can be downloaded here for PC or Mac. So let’s get started: 1. First make sure your PS3 is connected to your home network. In the PS3?s main menu, navigate to Settings ? Network Settings ? Internet Connection, press X on your controller and select Enabled. Then go to Internet Connection Settings (also under Network Settings), and select your network name (SSID). Enter the network password if you have one. 2. Then install PS3 Media Server. (click to enlarge) 3. Next run PS3 Media server and go the Navigation/Share Settings Tab. 4. From here add the folders you would like the PS3 to see by clicking on the add folder icon to the lower left. 5. Once added click the Save Icon at the top of the PS3 Media Center Application. (click to enlarge) 6. Now fire up your PS3 if not on already and the application should recognize the device. You can check this by clicking on the status tab of PS3 Media Server, as shown above. 7. Once the PS3 has been found and recognized you can navigate to your media on the PS3 with your SixAxis controller to either the Video or Music tab depending on the media you want to play. 8. You should see a PS3 Media Center Icon once in these tabs and you can browse your media by pressing X on this icon and scrolling through your shared media. 9. Once you navigate to your media simply press X and enjoy the show. Even though the PS3 can handle most media types with ease you may come across videos the PS3 does not natively support. One of the great things about PS3 Media Center is it can transcode the videos to make them playable through the PS3. This can be done by navigating to the #–Transcode–# folder of your shared media with the PS3 and playing it through there instead. (click to enlarge) Note: Transcoding video is somewhat of an intense application for a computer to run so results may vary depending on your computer setup. Also there are settings you can play with in the Transcode Settings tab of PS3 Media server that may help with streaming over wifi if you find you are having issues with video playback or stuttering. If for some reason you feel PS3 Media Server isn’t you your liking and would like to try other software here is a comprehensive list of known DLNA-Compliant and UPnP media server applications: Windows ? -
Has anyone used the forum on an Android device? I think the enhanced mobile skin works there too.

I just wanted to let everyone know that one of my most important goals for this forum is to bring back the popular Gallery (and Downloads) section we once had before (at MDCF/ATRACLife). I know that many of you had spent time uploading incredible recordings and thankfully you will be happy to know that data is still saved on another server. I am waiting for Invision to finish the fourth version of the Gallery software, and once that is complete we will begin the transition. I expect a timeframe of about three months for this to be complete. Why so long of a wait? Well the latest Gallery software is still in beta, and I will probably have to spend a considerable amount of money for this transition to happen. I sincerely apologize to those who have been wanting to access this content since the forum was merged.

Emma Stone has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming Spider-Man film from Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, according to a recent announcement by Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures. Stone has been tapped for the role of Gwen Stacy opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. The film, to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will begin production in December and will be released in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012. The casting continues an association between Sony Pictures Entertainment and the actress, who previously starred in Superbad, The House Bunny, and Zombieland, all for Columbia Pictures; she may currently be seen in Screen Gems’ hit comedy Easy A, and takes a cameo role in Screen Gems’ upcoming Friends with Benefits. Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, “It’s been an incredible journey for us to watch Emma’s star rise as an actress. She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role. Given her history with the studio, casting her in one of our most important franchises is a real thrill.” Webb added, “The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.” View the full article
