    Sonicstage CP

Has anyone else read the announcement on SS CP 4.0? Sounds like it will be a significant update. The inclusion of being able to playback AAC (m4a files, not ATRAC lossles), then 3gp and mp4 video formats? Are they thinking about allowing SS CP to manage video now too? Perhaps to tie in to the PSP or an upcoming Connect Video component? Let's hope Sony releases the 4.0 USA version at the same time as Japan... Anyone else have info on this new release?
  2. Picked up a few days ago: CD: Junkie XL - "Today" Morcheeba - "Big Calm" Frou Frou - "Details" Tape: (hey, they were $3/each) Kraftwerk - "Computer World" Curtis Mayfield - "Superfly" Various Artists - "Only Dance 1985 - 1989"
  3. This is great to hear. Considering Sony USA hasn't put out a press release on their site (that I can find) nor have they included the device on the sonystyle.com site available for pre-order. Hopefully they also release the upgraded SS 3.4 so importers can use an English version of the software here in the States.
  4. Just picked up tonight: Thievery Corporation - Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi The Prodigy - Their Law (The Singles 1990 - 2005)
  5. I wouldn't mind if this feature found its way into the "home studio" line of their products, like ACID Studio, which I have. @Ishi, what rumblings have you heard re: the ATRAC SDK? Is this really just the beginning of something bigger?
  6. I don't know how many people here know about or use ACID software, but I'm encouraged and excited to see that Sony Media Software has added ATRAC support directly into ACID Pro 6! Now those mixes and loop-based tracks people want to create can be directly saved to ATRAC format. It also allows me to use tracks from my SS library (unprotected only, of course) in ACID projects. Provided of course that I could afford this beast of software. Import/export list here: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/products/...&FeatureID=8479 I would like to think it's a sign of things to come from Sony and/or others regarding the ATRAC format. Maybe other software will soon follow?
  7. Currently listening to an old Paul Oakenfold mix, likely recorded off radio around 2000... Live @ Space in Ibiza (technically Part 2) in LP2 via the MXD-D5C CD/MD deck. Great stuff! The "old school" trance/electronica knows to keep the energy going.
  8. Hmm... does the portable still allow you to play music while it's charging via USB or does it automatically go into "USB transfer" mode? I use my NH900 @ work and run it off AC power all day. Wonder if the RH1 can tell the difference between charging only via USB or USB plugged into a computer.
  9. I wonder if Sony would ever consider creating an interface akin to Simple Burner on Windows to only upload tracks directly to WAV format, like they are doing with the Mac converter. If people are that against SonicStage (or what they think of it from reading stories on the Internet), perhaps people who need to only record with this can go "oh look, this MD recorder doesn't *require* Sonicstage to get my recordings. I just need to run this little app and pull my stuff off and away I go, not tied to any DRM. Again, this is all great and amazing news. Perhaps little things like standalong upload software will come later if the market demands it. Good job Sony!
  10. I agree that it's good they're keeping it simple. Sometimes having too many options in a product line can be dangerous and scares people away. One device, one price. Easy to understand. It also confuses the sales people at stores. Of course, I doubt any Sony store rep will understand how wonderful this device is, but we can hope. The design is definitely strong. Very sleek and straightforward IMO, even if it's a little bigger than the NH1. I'm glad it has a standard mini-USB port as well. By allowing std-MD uploads with this device, they've basically revived the entire product line of recorders, decks, etc. out there to become even more useful! I don't HAVE to use Hi-MD to upload audio to my PC. I can use my Sharp SG-11 bookshelf system to record and upload with the RH1. Most excellent move! I'm interested to see how Sony USA's press release will read and how they will market this device.
  11. Agreed. I really, really want the w810i (quad-band version of w800) and this part really surprised me. The only hope I have that the phone could support ATRAC later is some short video interview an Engadget rep had with a SE/Sony rep @ CES talking about the w810 and online music. The guy said they were working with Sony and the Connect team to make it work together... See here http://www.engadget.com/2006/01/15/video-h...on-sonys-w810i/ Of course it was only a sales/floor guy, who knows how much merit one can put into what he offered up. We shall find out soon enough I suppose.
  12. Do you think this sort of study even applies to the ATRAC format? Considering its roots were in portable devices *and* the format has always been blessed with forms of DRM, do tracks purchased from Sony Connect (or Mora for people in Japan) really suck up more battery? My inclination is that it doesn't, but I'm curious.
  13. I thought this was odd as well, especially since these phones carry the "Walkman" name. Over at Engadget, they interviewed someone @ CES about the w810i and that guy said they were working with Sony Connect to be able to download music from Connect to the phone... then again, he could've been talking out of his backside. I agree these phone should support ATRAC. I'm one of those people who have a lot of music ripped to ATRAC format for my MD. I emailed Sony Ericsson and the tech support reply was "we don't support ATRAC, please convert those files to MP3." Granted, this person won't necessarily know what's going on between Sony/Sony Ericsson, but still it's disconcerting. Although, this month is supposed to bring us the new Connect store with videos (accordin to CES, I thought), so maybe updates would come in SonicStage or Connect Player to support the walkman phones - and of course firmware updates to support ATRAC as well... We can dream, can't we? :-D
  14. Item has been sold. Thanks for all who viewed.
  15. OK, here's a couple pics. Front: Back: 2004 VW GTI 1.8T Leather/heated seats Moon roof 5-speed manual Fast
  16. Looking to sell Red Sony NW-HD3 20GB (ordered from Japan). Also have Sony nylon carrying case (w/belt clip) that I'm selling with it. Unit's in great shape (no pics yet). Used a PDA screen guard to protect the screen while I used it, so the screen is in excellent condition. Have original box, cables, headphones and soft carrying case. Asking $125 + shipping costs (via FedEx).
  17. I'll see what I can do about that tomorrow at lunch time. Just got the baby washed tonight too... no more salt and crap from the roads here in Chicago. It's a beauty to be sure... look out for new pics. Can I just attach them to a post? I don't have a place to upload/host files currently. Please advise. Thanks.
  18. I would like the ability to convert CD's to Hi-MD with the current new bitrates (along with ATRAC3/132) from Simple Burner. I figured SB and SS use the same libraries, but if they do, the same bitrates are not available to both pieces of software... I would like to see the 192kbps for recording on unit. It would be a great compromise for space/quality for recording in Hi-MD mode.
  19. Interesting. I had an issue when trying to install 3.4 as well. I found the installer log file and it kept bombing out on a file copy... it ended up being some file/folder permissions or other file/folder attribute was messed up in a SS program folder. I ran Scandisk/chkdsk (full - must do after reboot) on my computer. It found a couple issues, fixed them, and after that I was able to install without any problems. This was on my Windows 2000 box, but I imagine the same thing could happen on a XP system as well. Hope that helps.
  20. Not "just" bought anymore, but I picked up a 2004 VW GTI 1.8T on Friday 2/3. No pics right now - and it's been cold/snowy/salty on the roads in the Chicago area, so it wouldn't look too hot anyway. Fun ride so far..
  21. Please please note that any recordings done in non Hi-MD format CANNOT be uploaded digitally(high speed) and will need be done via real-time analog recording to PC. All the new features of uploading only affect Hi-MD and its uploading capability.
  22. Nice upgrade so far. Does fell a little quicker than the previous releaseWhat do people think the additional music stores/modules will be for? Will an equivalent be made available here in the States? Seeing Yahoo Music inside SS (even if just for Japan) is an interesting move to me... we shall see what it brings us.
  23. Sony USA has also updated their support site with the 3.4 web installer! I will need to download as soon as I get home. http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-download...id=1468&os_id=6
  24. Does the HD5 support ATRAC 352? I haven't tried it yet with my HD3 and I don't remember reading anywhere one way or the other on the NW-* series. Regardless, I am also very impressed with the upgrades Sony is making to Sonicstage. My hope is one day they make managing the music database (i.e. moving it from one computer to another) will be more straightforward, but I digress. I will rejoice with the new functionality!
  25. Hi, I was wondering about the compatibility between SS 3.x and MCE2005. I have W2K Pro on my home computer and I think it's time to upgrade. I'm just trying to decide between XP Home/Pro/MCE 2005. I have a TV tuner card, so having MCE may be nice to have. If anyone has MCE and SS, let us know if there are any issues.... I'm personally not as concerned about SS's Library working with the Media Center software...
