DUDE, I believe this is for tuning the laser power If you set it too high, it will burn out, if it's too low it will not see/recognize the disc Don't ever attempt to play with it without an oscilloscope :shock: Take a look at the service manual if you want...

How can the musics get distorted or mixed? You doesn't make sense.. The only problem i see is that you run out characters space for titling

The 505 can write to the multi-byte field But once again, the main lcd can only display romanji and katakana You'll need a RM-MC12ELK hooked up on a 505 to display kanji...

Yes All LP recording remain the same as Type-R units, it just plays better on a Type-S (Keep in mind Type-S units also have Type-R chip in it for SP recording!)

Sony doesn't make all the parts inside MD's you know... There's parts from Philips, Motorola, JRC, Asahi Kasei, etc...
