  1. 2 suggestions from me, actually 3, but only 2 related to your question.

1st: What kind of Mac do you have? The most recent G5 towers have Optical outs in the back. So with a 12 dollar fibre optic cable, you can easily play your songs in iTunes and record them using the optical in of your N510. If you just have something else, you can get a USB to optical converter that will make your iTunes music play through USB to optical and you can record it in real-time. Or if you don't want to buy anything else, try the headphone/speaker/line out of your computer into the line-in.

2nd: Dig out that old PC and use it as your "Junker" for use with your NetMD recorder.

3rdly: There are 2 active topics in the software forum about Mac OSX and NetMD/HiMD, you really should have either done a search, or just looked around the forum a bit before you made this post.

  2. My ideas for a better main page.

    -Take out/revise the avatars

-Slim down the graphics, I like the idea of making the page look nice, but it is a bit too busy.

-Try and adjust each post to best fit the news it contains. Posts with images could just contain text and have a "read more & see images" link that goes to the archived page of that post.

    -More cowbell

I'd like the portal to look more like this:

  3. Because Sony would be crucified by the RIAA and its own music branch. To them, each of us is nothing but a cutthroat, stinking opportunistic, heartless and unscrupulous pirate who will rob them of their millionaire contracts.

    Wait,.... what are we then?

  4. I love everything about this new machine..... except for the controller.

Unless I give it a feel and like it, I don't think I will be an early adopter. Hopefully a revision is done, or the release is less cheap looking.

I think this generation I will be going with the PS3 and the Nintendo Rev.

  5. Ok, so tommorow at 3:00 PM mountain time, I'm going to be on the radio.

I got a college radio show and I'm here to try and get some people out there to listen. The show is called "Life By Stereo" and I am Bananatree. Try and listen in, then post some comments and Feedback.

    you can listen online @

  6. Any program that can record a copy of a song playing inside the computer.

I.e Playing from SonicStage and recording in the other program. I think some sound editers can do this. "TotalRecorder" I belive is the program originally used for digital uploads of HiMD discs to WAV in the days before the WAV converter and HiMDrender.

Note: This will record in realtime. Therefore 1 hour of ATRAC = 1 hour of waiting. Also, this will result in a loss of quality due to recompression.

Edit: Oh poop! I thought you wanted your ATRAC collection to go from your HDD to your iTunes music collection. Sadly another step is involved. Using the headphone/line out of your MD player/recorder and do a realtime record from the line-in on your computer. Unless you still have your ATRAC collection on your HDD, then do step 1.

  7. If your ATRAC collection is is important enough, then burn them to am Audio CD, then rip them in iTunes.

If not that, use a program like Audio Hijack pro to capture playing all of your ATRAC files, and save them as MP3s.

  8. You really should read the FAQs in the Software section.

We don't have the time to outline every step of the procedure. We have taken the time to make FAQ's and tutorials, check them out and do a search if that doesn't help. I know there are tons of user manuals on the internet, so I can't see you not being able to find one for the n707.

    Thanks for your cooperation

  9. With dead pixels 100x as often. Sony manufacturing. w00t.

Oh, well. It's a messed up world we live in where Sony makes video games, Apple makes walkmans and Nintendo makes toys.

It's not unlike a Japanese company to dabble in everything. Nor an American company, Sony owns a online bank, yamaha makes Motorbikes and keyboards, philip morris makes Cigarettes, chips, kool-aid, cheese spread...

Electronics companies making electronics? No way Jose! ohmy.gif

  10. You ppl need to think about the costs it takes to make this stuff

First of all a Hi-MD is worth 10 bucks AUD while a CD is worth almost 15 cents AUD. It costs money to make it first of all. THen it costs money to record it, then package it in a Hi-MD case that is not widely made. Ship it off to a store, the store jacks the price up then u buy it. CAN U IMAGINE THE PRICE, cos it'll probably b huge. Neway, how accurately can u record an album on 1gb discs. The industry probably has to come up with some new encoding to make it hit atleast 970mb to get their money's worth.

KEEP DREAMING! But it would be nice...

According to economics, it would safely even itself out. Remember the cost of CDs at the release of both redbooks and CDRs? Bonus features and possibly ATRAC encoded version of the disc could be included for use on other ATRAC players would make up the difference.

  11. If sony could impose something where the music could be uploaded, but not distributed easily, then it'd be a very cool format for releasing music. With mp3 playback on the 2nd gen HiMD units, I could see HiMD taking a lot of Market share from both HDD players and CD players.

Sadly, this would need to come along side Sony opening up Sonic Stage a lot more.

  12. I'm pretty sure there is a way to do all of these things with MD, some will take more steps, but you can do them all.

AAC is pretty much an iPod only deal, the new Moto phones will use it, but unless you can convert the AAC file to WAV or some other compatible format, then it won't work.

A RH910 will play MP3s, record analog, upload, and let you convert your uploads to WAV for editing. I'm not sure about the sound quality or price ATM, but every Hi-MD recorder in this generation (2nd) can do this.

  13. Not really. It would have cost more money to cripple it than to leave it the same as the other models.

It seems changing a few lines of code isn't much, considering the money they would be making forcing people to upgrade to a higher model. When you think about it, it seems it was left as to not have the world at protest. (The MD world anyways)
