  1. Sony wasn't just looking for a gimmick when they decided to use the UMDs in the PSP. Until the PSP can be hacked into playing the ISOs from the memory sticks, the ISOs will probably be left alone.

Could that even work? The Memory sticks are 1 Gb max am I right? Split between 2 512mb drives, could 1 ISO be spread across the 2 and still function?

  2. OMFG I JUST HOPE IT DOESN't HAPPEN!

btw, sony has plenty of money, they invest in stupid things like flexible paper which other companies are already doing. So y doesn't sony keep the MD format and redivert a part of they're billion(s) dollar research money to MDs?

    Because we already have HiMD?

  3. Retardedly large and prone to clicking when walking. The 3D wing setup can click around if not treated like a bird's nest. (gently)

Sounds good, super long braided cable is nice, fit nicely unless you have something coming out of your ear (Hoops and such).

  4. The tape drive can record DAT to your computer?

Also, if you are a student, the computer/music/film faculty of your school may be able to lend you a DAT deck/portable for 0 dollars or so tongue.gif I know my school has 2 Tascam DAT recorders, as well as a lab full of eMacs with coaxial in external sound cards.

  5. Crutchfield used to carry a wide selection of MD stuff, but looks like no more. You may have to froogle MD stores, or just dig deep. I doubt you will be able to go to Best Buy and get something, but getting a Deck from an American MD e-tailer won't be too hard.

From what I gather from the internet, 4x MD-dubs won't sound as nice as real-time. This is caused by the decks ability to only do 4x dubbing in Atrac 4.5 (IIRC), dubbing realtime will yield Atrac Type-R. Both will be SP, but theorectically Type-R will sound better.

Personally, for the best results I'd invest in a good CD deck or DVD player with a solid digital out, a MD deck, and a Monster cable (or similar quality) TosLink or coaxial cable.

  6. I still think regardless of price, MD trading is cheap. Since you never lose a disc, you give one and gain one. You come out even, unless you trade a MD2000 with a Maxell.

I find MD trades to be very personal, and extremely convinient if you already have a MD player and recorder. Plus it cuts out a step when you are using an MD portable. No need to dub a MD from a CD someone sent you if they could just do it for you. And if you really want to burn someone a copy of it, or want a lossless version, then you just buy the CD and make up a new one.

  7. You don't seem to get what a "Mix" is.

We usually trade compilations we make, that encorprate flow, fade-ins/outs and even non-stop mixes.

Who can make a old fashioned mixtape that spans 4.7 Gb? We aren't here to do mass rip offs of recording companies. Just to share music and have a good time, I still don't see how an archive of music sitting on a stale DVD-r is better than a hand chosen and mixed, with a nice MD that is hand labelled by the trader, with a nice little letter about why they chose each song, and why it means something to them.
