  1. sorry I'm not clear on this. so what is this exactly for again??? is this for saving a lost track or something???
  2. the good thing about the iPod right now is that there is a open source like Rockbox that you can actually change the OS in it. I have a 4gen iPod and I use this more often for listening purposes because Rockbox offer two feature that I mostly prepared when listening to music. These two features are Crossfade and Bookmarking which iPod do not offer with their OS. But then I also prefer RH1 because I already have existing Legacy MD that I would like to transfer to PC. Also, I like the fact that it makes life easier for me when I have to transfer from tape to MD to PC and edit to splice 1 long track. I have that capability. So it all going to matter of how you really want to apply each technology. I just happen to have both. Sorry if I was not any help at all or maybe???
  3. The only I would consider to have one of this hi-md deck is to make final mixes or rough mixes using PCM mode ala DAT. I think it is still more convenient and much faster than using CD RW. There is 2:00 mins waiting time everytime I have to erase CD RW while minidisc is a lot simpler. You press erased track or all erased and gone. Also PCM is equal to CD's quality anyhow isn't. So overall a hi-md would be a best bet investment for in the future. For now I guess I will just settle with my RH1. Hopefully Sony would released a Hi-MD deck that plays MP3 as well even if doesn't have USB, I can always use my RH1 for that purpose.
  4. Tempting since I am looking for just playback Hi-MD but I just recently bought a RH1 myself. Why don't you just keep the M100 as a playback?
  5. I believed you were talking about the DSEE. Yeah the DSEE only applies to lower compression. In your case it would be difficult to distinguished to tell.
  6. If 4.0 works for you that's fine. I have no idea about 4.0 since I just recently started using minidisc again because of RH1. I supposed that there was some bugs with 4.0 so 4.2 was an improvement. But as they say, if not broken don't fix it. Which is in your case it isn't
  7. unfortunately is just for playback only within your PC and supposed to work well with lower rate compression like LP4 and hi-lp to compensate for the loss of frequency.
  8. hmm maybe I'm getting the iPod and Powerbook mixed up, I know that my Powerbook is covered 3 years with Applecare plan. Thanks for pointing out the iPod plan however.
  9. I think Apple care covers 3 years for 60.00 I believed.
  10. Dynamic Normalizer works well too, which levels the recording close from each other. It actually works. I never really care for eq but at least is available.
  11. I know what you mean about getting the RH1. It is that appealing and I have no regret of buying this recorder. I know is not perfect but what is. Regardless of what Sony do there will always be a critics that thinks their idea is lot better. Buy it and it should be the last md recorder you will ever need, unless Sony comes with a deck that offers what RH1 has. IMHO, the RH1's design is almost perfect. I know this might sound bias because I have one. But I had a chance to play with MZ-M10 but I was not completely satisfied and I'm glad that I took it back. And fortunately by the time I did return the M10, RH1 was later introduced. The first thing that caught my attention was the uploading capability of the legacy md which MZ-M10 and other previous minidisc never offer. The sound also great and the mechanism of the RH1 is less noisier,..So just buy one and start playing with it. You'll be glad you bought it...good luck!!!
  12. Yes, it certainly is. I don't how I can live without it now. Last year I had a chance to get the MZ-M10 or the M100 and actually tried the M10 and just maybe a few days of using it I was not satisfied. But the RH1 is definitely a keeper. This is definitely will worth buying since I am going to be doing a lot of tape to MD and edit them and transfer to iPod or CD and other recording application. I hope Sony realized that we are supporting their Minidisc format
  13. I was debating whether to get this Mylo prior to purchasing the MZ-RH1 and I'm sure glad that I stick with MD since restriction isn't as bad. This Mylo thing is like another gadget that unfortunately will eventually become another flop by Sony or maybe not. Will have to see what the outcome in a couple of months or so.
  14. Don't worry, you will only get sued if you have enough or make too much money. Other than that just enjoy the music and listen away.
  15. Finally!!! I had enough money to get myself an MZ-RH1....thank goodness. I have had minidisc player/recorder in the past and this one is truly a remarkable MD ever. There are so much things to do with it. You all probably know about it already so I'm not going to rant anymore about it.
  16. I would buy it for a spare as a playback but I just recently bought an RH1 myself. How about just for the microphone? 30.00?
  17. I also enjoyed the article as well. I also just recently bought an RH1 and I didn't even plan on buying one at all. I somehow balanced my earning and fortunately I had enough money to splurged for the RH1. I had been wanting to save up for the RH1 for several months now but somehow my other hobbies such as golf, hanging out with friends and other activities that involved money puts me behind from buying another recorder. I am so glad that I finally got one and I couldn't believe that I waited so long, If I had known then that I was going to as satisfied with my purchased of the RH1, I would have sacrificed earlier and could have bought the RH1 earlier. The most thing that I am satisfied with this new recorder is that it is fast and reliable particularly connected to PC. The previous one's such as MZ-M10 which I tried and sent back several months ago was a dissappointment. No upload and it was difficult to work with. The RH1 has a lot more to offer and more stable recorder. It is easier and the upload capability from Legacy md to Hi-md, no restricition and dynamic normalized is something that I have been hoping for which is finally obtain. Finally, Sony got it right this time...thnx!!!
  18. Thank you for the great review!!! I have something to look forward to this summer. Great work!!!
  19. I kind of expected this and it was obvious. It was like a re-run of minidisc going against it's rival CD only UMD was going against DVD or the rival iPod...oh well, I'm not surprised. I'm glad I learned from the md experience. Even though, I am taking a chance on the RH-1 since this will rejuvenate my existing md decks and disc again...sorry about the UMD going away.

    **April Fools**

Yup it's April's Joke alright, nice one and nice try....he he he.
  21. Me, I am totally ready and overdue for another minidisc portable. The uploading and other features is what I'm after. If this minidisc recorder is not enough to convince anyone, I don't know what it is. I have given up with minidisc and I am actually very happy with my iPod with Rockbox implemented on it, but I see as a minidisc as a recorder. So it is unfair to compare this to the iPod. There are things that iPod can't do that minidisc recorder can do and vice versa. Anyways, you all know what I mean....
  22. I'm not going to gripe about what this thing have. I'm just glad that Sony is keeping this medium alive. Yes there will be short comings but so what. All I care about is that I can revive my existing minidisc again....I just wish that this is available already so that I can stop dreaming of what this thing can do and not do...Please Sony release this already....I beg you please....
  23. I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant internally like the MXD-400 recorder...thnx!
  24. MDfreak, I have a deck that transfer from CD to MD directly, my question is, will I be able to transfer the recorded material to a computer using the RH-1? TIA mdmania
