  1. I strongly suggest to put a <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> into the forum page's header. A suitable robots text should be added as well as robots can create massive traffic... To be frank, if Sony wants to present their side of an issue, they should sign up and discuss the matter directly. @Sony: Remember, signing up is quick and easy. And it's free...
  2. Well, I think, Sharp should start as quickly as possible, so when you have the money, the second generation of units comes out with improved quality and features...
  3. Fact is, the Iraq war was completely unnecessary. The UN was mere months away from turning Saddam Hussein into a little lapdog. From that point forward, introducing democratic reforms could have been much easier, as the lives of the ordinary people continued uninterrupted. And the most important thing: The destabilizing effect of a war could have been avoided. Now Iraq is a safe haven for terrorists of all sorts, under Saddam's rule, foreign terrorists had no chance of surviving... Another thing: On friday, the second public tv network (ZDF) had their bi-weekly nationwide poll on politics. The last question was, if Germans could vote on the next US-president, which one would you vote for? The result: 9% for Bush, 80% for Kerry. "weiß nicht" means undecided/no opinion. About the Poll: Representative telephone poll with 1284 participants.
  4. Sound quality is very good according to my ears(Hi-SP). In addition, you can record in LinearPCM, which is identical to CD. And to free your music, there is still marcnet's HiMDRenderer...
  5. @echoy97: Welcome to Sony DRM. It is not possible to transfer tracks back onto the PC, that had been transferred from the PC onto MD. Only music, that had been recorded through LineIn/Mic/Optical can be transferred onto the PC.
  6. Reason seven: You are in Dell-Hell... Seriously, you can do two things: First, when you pull out the drawer od the CD-drive, if the lens is visible as well, you can clean it very carefully. Second, in SonicStage under 'Tools' --> 'Options' then click on 'CD recording' then under 'CD reading settings' mark 'Use smoothing when reading the CD'. In that case, SonicStage tries to correct reading errors, but of course, it takes longer. Since I've never worked with SimpleBurner, I'm not sure, if it has this option as well. If everything fails, using a different software for ripping might be advisable. A ton of these can be found here: http://www.dailymp3.com/cdrippers.html Personally, I'm using CD-DA X-Tractor, which served me very well even with moderately scratched CDs ( http://xtractor.sourceforge.net/, others reported good experiences with Exact Audio Copy.
  7. Quite simple: Reread the title of this department. It says 'User Opinions'. A question about the remote port on a NH600D is a direct hardware question regarding a Hi-MD unit. That is the reason. Aaaand, it has nothing to do with you personally. Trust me...
  8. The relevant thread is here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=5877
  9. Reason one: The CD is scratched, warped and/or dirty. Reason two: The CD is copyprotected. Some CDs install a driver file, that interferes with the ripping process. Reason three: The CD is a CD-R copy and the blank used is of low quality. I have a few copies on BASF blanks and these are getting bad. Reason four: Your CD-ROM drive is of lower quality and/or has buggy firmware. Reason five: Background processes interfere with the ripping process by demanding high amounts of processing power for a short time. If it happens only with a few CDs, I suggest using a different software for ripping and then importing the resulting wave files into SonicStage.
  10. The War on Terror: America will not win it. Why? Because the foreign policy of the current and past administrations is THE reason for the terror attacks. The constant meddling in the internal affairs of other countries, the multiple democracies, that had been destroyed, the dictators, that had been supported to protect Corporate America's interests. And then every US president is surprised time after time, when something bad happens. And now take this joke named George W Bush. Dumber than a loaf of bread with an attention span of a two year old. No wonder, that the whole Iraq operation failed that miserably. He is even unable to say more than two sentences without someone telling him, what to say. See here: http://cryptome.org/bush-bulge.htm And that miserable failure should be responsible for the care and wellbeing of 270 million people? Please not...
  11. The size is the same as MD-DATA-drives could take regular MDs for analog recording annd playback. However, due to the low numbers of disks and devices sold, the special data format isn't included in Hi-MD devices. Another point, AFAIK, every manufacturer of these Multitrackers uses a different format anyway...
  12. No. That is not possible. There is only one way to have the Library on both computers: Backup the Library using the SonicStage Backup-program and restore from that backup onto the second comp. One Warning: Doing a restore destroys the existing library on the second computer. Of course, realtime upload is always possible. How that works, is described here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=6329 (Realtime Upload 1.1 & 1.2 )
  13. Good review Steve. Speaking of battery life: I suggest a few high-capacity NiMH batteries and an external charger. I usually get more than three hours out of one charge recording on 1GB media. Alkalines simply cannot deliver the high current needed here.
  14. This time it isn't from Emerson themselves. It is this one from Auvi: http://www.auviworld.com/productdetails.ph...hp?ProductId=81 And had you waited for me to post, you had known, that you can get the 256MB version from Auvi directly for 129 bucks. Speaking of Laser failures, that can happen to every unit containing one. There are only a few companies around the world making them, so the same laserdiode could possibly be found in a 4000$ high-end cd-player - of course with much better parts around it...
  15. Normally, that should be no problem, as these recorders are quartz controlled. However, long term stability might be a problem, so after 5 hours of continuous recording, they might run out of sync, but half an hour shouldn't be a problem.
  16. SonicStage cannot play gapless. However, all MD-recorder can play gapless standalone. Mostly, after transfer and playing standalone, you should get a gapless recording. But, some CD-drives do introduce gaps during ripping. In that case, connect your MD recorder to a CD-player and record realtime. That one will be definitely gapless. (Not possible with NetMD downloaders: NF520/N420/NH600D)
  17. Uff. Sounds like a broken PCB... Do you retained the packaging? Was it damaged in any way, so that it points to rough handling by the shipping co.? Maybe that's an avenue to get the money back you invest into repairing the unit. Unless, the seller has packaged it inadequately - Happened to me once, a fully functional laser printer was completely unusable after shipment...
  18. Yes. You can do that. Remember, that your SonicStage version must be the same or newer to read that backup. Btw, 2.2 is the latest.
  19. Hmm, according to the manual, you can do full editing on the unit. http://www.minidisc.org/sony_mdse10_manual.pdf Maybe the Edit/No button has collected a bit of dirt inside...
  20. I suggest, that you get the Win98SE update. Since it is no longer available from Microsoft, I suggest Ebay.com . But as always, check seller ratings before bidding. Look for Windows 98 SE or Second Edition Update or Upgrade in this department: ""Computers & Networking > Software > Operating Systems > Windows > Windows 98"" That should solve your problem. In addition, the SE version has a better stability as well.
  21. You can safely delete the SonicStage database. It is useless anyway. Problem: SonicStage encrypts the files in that database and the key to that was on the C-drive. There is only one way to save a database: Using the SonicStage Backup to backup the whole database onto a different drive e.g. external USB-Harddisk. If something goes wrong, you can use that backup to restore everything. *looks at your mailaddy* @aol.com ? The AOL-Software is known for killing Windows installations purely at random. I also have seen reports, where a harddisk died after an AOL-install...
  22. Congrats Dex. Hope, it is the start to a solid career.
  23. Exactly this is how it looks to the user. You are lucky. Usually that refused track isn't playable afterwards. Not even standalone....
  24. To be frank, I didn't expect any improvement as the version info for the driver and the OMG module stayed the same.
  25. Not directly. Two ways: Playback the .ram file and record it off the wave channel with a suitable program, the import the resulting wave file into SonicStage. Or connect your MD-recorder to Line-Out of the Soundcard and record it off the soundcard while playing back the .ram file.
