  1. Less than 30 Minutes here. And still less than 45 minutes including conversion from MP3
  2. Times are about to be correct. HiMD is no speed wonder, especially portable units.
  3. @JuT: This shouldn't happen to a new unit. Instead of trying to repair it, take out the batteries for a minute to reset the unit, then try again with a fresh disc.. If that doesn't help, pack up everything and return the unit for exchange. Remember, you have warranty on the unit.
  4. Why trying to fix a defective product, when you can have a better, fully functional one for free?
  5. You do know, that the AV-710 has no digital input? Try this one for example: http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--EMU8803
  6. It is the 1700 bytes barrier. Exactly that is the amount of space available on conventional discs for titling. Try shortening the titles on some tracks.
  7. Marc is not in the USA, so the DMCA does not apply. Minor problem: Some american lawyers are too dumb to get that... Sometimes real dumb: http://www.slyck.com/news.php?story=555
  8. A link and a pic: 17 Reasons not to slit your wrists And the pic:
  9. Hmm, depends on what you want to invest. Something like this?: http://www.rolandus.com/products/subcatego...id=9&subcatid=0 Takes Analog and SP/DIF optical & coax. Or Canton's Ergo series: http://www.canton.de/www/index.php4?pg_id=12,12,,2,en A pair of the Ergo 302 plus one Ergo AS2SC plus a decent amp for the 302s. Avoid anything, that is sold in computerstores. Either visit your local HiFi dealer or a shop that caters for studio/musicians.
  10. Unplayable after transfer? Check, if you can make recordings through line in. If yes, than it might be a problem with imported MP3 files. Decode them to Wave first, then import these wave files into SonicStage.
  11. The problem is that almost all soundcards are not bit accurate. On Samedayaudio one customer reported problems with his UA5. Clicks and other problems. Another one claimed, that the UA5 is not bit true. Expect the fault not in the NHF800, instead expect your soundcard at fault here. Especially when the soundcard resamples everything up to 48kHz only to have it downsampled to 44.1kHz by the recorder. Some points to observe: When the specifications lists only 48kHz for playback, then you have a resampler. That is about 70% of all USB-Audio and about 90% of all AC97 compliant soundcards including almost all onboard sound thingies. Second, when you can adjust the volume of the digital out, then that means goodbye bit accuracy. My soundcard loses about 0.5dB on the digital out in Windows. In Linux, digital out is fixed, I will test it next week for accuracy. My experience is, that some soundcards perfom better with Linux. Seems to be a driver issue...
  12. The data is stored in one big file plus a few smaller files containing further data like track info/discname etc. You need SonicStage to do a fast upload. Or realtime via soundcard.
  13. The problem is: Dex is right. What you want is a sync function. And that works only with harddisk based players. If your collection is bigger than 50 to 100 tracks, then you will always have a greater part of your collection, that is NOT on the disc, that happens to be in your player. The Sync always relies on the fact, that the whole collection fits on the player in one go and that is not possible with MiniDisc.... However, there is a way to 'tag' the albums, that had been tramsferred: right click on the album, click on 'Properties' then check or uncheck the box at the bottom of the dialogue: "Make this a My Compilation Album". This selects a different icon in front of the album name and has no other effect.
  14. Multiple reasons. First, US price is always without sales tax. Sales tax is added locally. Interstate sales have no sales tax. Europe has a sales tax of 15 to 20 % depending on the country you're in. Always. Unless you're exporting outside Europe using the green export forms. Second, we have customs tax. Third, we have a 2 year warranty by law in Europe, thus higher service cost for the manufacturer. Fourth, exchange rates play a role too. Finally, it also depends, on what the market will allow... That all has an influence on the final sales price. The NH700 is a european only model.
  15. From the recording side, they should be equal. However, the NH900 has better editing on the unit. ( Divide with rehearsal function like home decks have ) And of course the two batteries allow for longer recording...
  16. Americans take the MZ-NHF800, it is a NH700 with a radio remote.
  17. Time to put a 'Get Firefox' button on the frontpage... http://www.spreadfirefox.com/ Oh, and speaking of IE: Three more holes in IE: 1:http://secunia.com/advisories/12959/ 2&3:http://secunia.com/advisories/12889/ A spoof:http://secunia.com/advisories/13015/ All in the last 7 days. Will the flood ever stop?...
  18. Had found out this too. The Equalizer works on the digital side, so any increase of the volume above a certain level would result in a clipped signal. Since full level is reached when the volume is set around 28/30 on a full scale sine, then there must be a compensation for the +10dB gain of the equalizer. And that one sets in at 20/30, above that, there is a compression effect quite similar to the Optimod used by bad sounding commercial radio stations. How bad it sounds, depends on the eq settings. Btw, I was unable to 'improve' the stock earbuds with it, a simple cowtail tone control had a much more satisfying effect...
  19. Try this site: http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/install/portabl...pgrd-redir.html It is a page from the service department. Download should start automatically. It downloads a Net-Installer (~570kByte). Start that one to complete the download (~40 MBytes) and the installation.
  20. WTF? First, obviously, your Caps-Lock is stuck. Second, this is an old thread. Please check the date before posting. Third, writing in ALL CAPS is the same as shouting. And shouting is considered rude. How about showing some etiquette... Fourth, the recommendation to upgrade is already well known around here...
  21. The authenticate thingy via internet is for stuff acquired from the Connect Store. Every track has its own key. The keys of existing tracks are backed up together with the tracks. However, a new track generated on PC-B has its own key only in the database of PC-B. By simply copying the OMA file, the key for that file isn't moved with it, so SS on PC-A refuses to play. Technically, it would be possible to extract that key from the database and move it together with the OMA, but there is more work necessary. I think, that a solution will take some time...
  22. First that, and the latest HiMDRenderer has an OMG-mode as well(still beta - see documentation on Marc's site). Sony plans a converter as well, still not available...
  23. Had you looked a few lines higher, you've had found the solution: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=6087
  24. The good old way through line-in of the soundcard. NetMD cannot upload.
  25. vova, it starts with the backup. Backing up a 30GB iTunes library takes about 50 minutes. That's the time needed to copy 30GB onto my external USB-harddisk. An MP3/OGG library of the same size takes the same time. Backing up a 30GB SonicStage-library takes nearly 4 hours. In other words, SonicStage adds a full 8 hours on top of a windows install. Time, I really could use for better things... And speaking of usability, the library tool included in Winamp is waaayyy better than SonicStage...
