  1. I am wondering if a Hi-MD player really is for me, or should I get an mp3/CD player car deck instead? I am looking to buy a car stereo, as that's where I'll be listening to music the most (away from home, but my music is in the computer in mp3 format at my home) This will be for the car only. And, I do NOT do any 'live' recording, so all I need is a downloader. I love the ability to arrange tracks on an MD disc in any way you want, and that you can re-write onto it a lot easier then a CD-RW. If I was to get a minidisc player for the car, that would mean finding a car deck with an Aux/line in jack at the front, and most of those are on mp3/CD decks. I've tried the radio transmitter way, but the sound is awful, uses an additional battery and you need to get the transmitter in the right spot to get semi-decent sound! I'm torn as to which way to go. Any advice?
  2. then..there would be no point in getting a 2nd gen unit (for myself) if the mp3's sound bad. Maybe I should get an mp3/cd player instead....
  3. The equipment browser page should be updated. The RH710 is being sold at datavis.com. which means its not Europe only.
  4. I know you want a H-MD deck, but since it might be a while, if ever, before we see one, here are work-around ways to playing a minidisc player in a car. 1) FM transmitter. It may not offer the best quality sound, but so far its the cheapest workaround. I use this with my mp3 player. Just tie the transmitter down onto the air-vents with twist-ties and it should be good. 2) Car stereo with a line-in jack: Probably the best quality, but ya need to find a stereo with a line-in jack, which are hard to come by. This is probably a better idea because then you can remove the MD player from the car with you. A thief may not be all too keen on taking something that doesn't look all to valuable to him.
  5. I'm thinking of buying the MZ-DH710 player, but only when they reach the stores. I don't have a credit card on hand and can't afford it right now. I would like to see some reviews by people who have purchased any of the new Hi-MD models before I make the decision. I made the wrong decision by buying an Archos 6000 mp3 player off of Ebay
  6. Is the MZ-DH710 going to be available to the Canadian and US markets? if so then I'm buying that one, since its the cheaper of the Hi-MD units
  7. I think I'll be getting the MZ-RH10 Hi-MD as well. My mp3 collection is not that big (under 4 gigs), so getting an mp3 player which olds 20 gigs seems pointless to me. Some strong selling points for me are: 1) Cheap 1 gig media (compared to others like SD and CF) 2) User-replacable battery. You can switch the batteries easily with the MD units, but not with hard drive units, which you have to recharge every day, and pay big bucks to replace it in a couple of years. 2) My collection isn't big, so switching discs won't be a problem for me 3) If a MD gets damaged, it too is easily replacable. A hard disc is screwed if its damaged. 4) Amazing battery life. Way better then Hard Drive players by far. For me, having the ability to upload songs (for the purpose of sharing) is pointless. You'd need to carry around the player, USB cable and power cable with you. Just burn the mp3's onto a few CD-R's, since everyone has a CD drive. The only thing that would make this new gen of Hi-MD players more perfect is no DRM, and direct drag and drop, as well as bigger discs.
  8. Let us know when your unit arrives, and post a review for it too!
  9. I heard that a Hi-MD disc can not play LP2 from the minidisct forums. Is this true?
  10. if you add in the exchange rate, plus shipping charges, I don't think you would save much if Canadians import form the US. Canadians also have sony stores, as well. They won't overcharge like Futureshop or Best Buy
  11. For me, as long as the NH-600 (or 700, still debating which one to get) has the same amp as the NetMD MZN-707, I'm perfectly happy with that.
  12. When we have .omg files on the computer, will we be able to upload them from Windows Explorer, and have it play as a music track? or will it come across as data only, since the music track is not being uploaded from SonicStage? If that is possible, there'd be no need for Sonic Stage except to create the .omg files from .mp3
  13. If your lucky enough to have VirtualPC or VMware for Mac, you can install SonicStage. Then again, I've never done so, so its hard to say whether its possible
  14. Here's a question: Will the Hi-MD units be able to play files of different compression on one disc? like some files at 'Lp4' and some files at 'Lp2' etc.. ?
  15. SonicStage converts mp3 to .omg files, then uploads the .omg file to the MD unit. Will we be able to download that file to the PC? What about .omg to mp3 conversion, is that possible? (without real time recording)
