  1. Analog only? That's no good. Audacity is free and lets you do digital.
  2. Audiocubes sells a 35W voltage converter for around forty dollars I believe. I'm thinking that's the cheapest you're going to get. Sharp and Kenwood portables tend to use 5vDCin (rather than more normal voltages like 3v, 4.5v and 6v as Sony portables do) which makes finding a generic AC adapter difficult. I have a generic radio shack 3vDCin adapter for my R900, but I'm using the adapter for my Sharp MD-DS8 on a voltage converter since I could not find a suitable AC adapter.
  3. It may have already damaged the optical pick-up block, and possibly other things in the device since it's not working at all. I would suggest either service (costly) or getting a new unit (also costly, but hey, you can get a better one).

    Dilema

You generally have to slide recording portables in sideways or they won't fit well. Player-only MD units are already oriented sideways (left-side loading), while recorders are top-loading, and thus are wider than they are tall. I would suggest going to GameStop or some similar place (CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City) and take your MD with you. Try out each case at the GBA-SP area until you find one that fits the best.

    Dilema

I've found that the larger Game Boy Advance SP cases fit the cost-reduced MD units like a glove. It works quite well actually. Used one for my N505 for the longest time. For the compact and low-profile models (e.g. NH1), you really don't even need a case as the device is plenty small enough to fit into even the tiny pockets of girls' jeans. My listening portable (DS8) doesn't have a carry case. I just slip it into the pocket of my jeans or my skirt, clip the remote to my shirt and go.
  6. Yes. Writing magneto-optical discs is slow. Sony's statement about transferring music at 100x realtime is based on the transfer of 48kbit/sec ATRAC3+ files, which are very small.
  7. All eyes are on me anyhow. Well, all male eyes, and they're usually on my legs or my butt. :rasp:
  8. Sorry. I meant under $100US.
  9. I believe there are changes to the main circuit board that allow the radio to actually function in the NHF800. It's much the same with the N610/N510 and the R700/G750. So, while the remote would probably work, the radio function probably would not.
  10. Here ya go. RM-MC33EL remote for Sony portable MD units. Fifty bucks. Pretty decent little remote, too.
  11. I have a red (looks pink to me though) R900 that's almost four years old. It's in immaculate condition and I used the hell out of it for almost a year and a half. Keeping it clean wasn't hard. In situations where it might get dirty, I always kept it in a carry case or a belt pouch. During my "just walking around" time, I always kept it in the pocket of my jeans or skirt, usually not in my purse because it's small enough to fit in a pocket. If I could actually find where I put it... I'd pull it out. Last time I used it though, I remember that the printing on the chassis was somewhat worse for wear. The "digital recording" on the top was completely worn away. :rasp:
  12. ... my tone? How could you possibly know my tone when it's words on a screen? I didn't call you stupid. And I surely wasn't intending the remark as a slight against you, merely a method of preventing false information from causing people to go out and buy those insanely expensive remotes for use in units that wouldn't support it. I wasn't aware that the NH700 had the two small notches in the remote port; all the photos I've seen of the unit show a standard remote port. Try thinking a little bit before you assume that I'm patronizing you. I'm not, and I don't appreciate being snapped at. :whatever:

    Dilema

The US NHF800 has a Hi-MD blank in its packaging. I've seen them at the store.
  14. Shure E2cs are a $10 bill under 100 bucks. Fairly priced, I believe. I haven't got mine yet, so I'm not really sure how good they sound; but from all I've heard they are the best earbud under $100. Not exactly MD friendly though... nice five-foot long cord. Perfect for devices without remotes.
  15. The stocks are likely your problem. And no, there would be no static during pausing or stopping because no signal is being sent to the headphones. The stocks with the S1 are similar to the MZ-N10 stocks (fold up type) and they are unclean and muddy. I could definitely hear static with them on my N10. Look through the Recommended 'phones section of the forums to see if you can find headphones you like and sound good.

    Dilema

Oi. The NHF800's remote blows. It's huge. It's not backlit. It has this weird dongle thingy on the cord. It is a lot more fragile than the other remotes. It's just not a good remote; the old G750 tuner remote was better.
  17. I will have pink! Stop tormenting me...
  18. Besides helping you keep this forum from devouring your soul? Hmm. Might have to think about that. Oh. I love music. Love it to death. I don't even own a TV. I never watch TV. I'm always constantly listening to music. I'm into the listening thing, which is why Skyther endlessly pesters me to get an iPod. However I've given in to temptation and well, a pink iPod Mini shall be mine... one day. Always been into MiniDisc from the first time I heard about it, I thought it was shweet. These were the days before MP3 players, too. And honestly, I get a lot more attention over my DS8 than any of my friends do over their iPods. iPods are like Camaros... everyone's got one! But when I whip that DS8 out... man it's fun to show off. I even get a lot of people who say it sounds better than their iPod. Could be that they're using the stock buds... I did do a bit of live recording in the past, nothing major, just making rush-job demo CDs for some local bands in good ol' B'ham. Fun stuff, and I got paid pretty decently. That's about all I do with MD. Otherwise, I write. Write, write, write. And play Final Fantasy XI. I do a lot of that. Probably too much.
  19. Shure E2c's are under $100. :rasp: One day, one day... I will have a pink iPod Mini... with Etymotic ER-4Ps coiled around it.
  20. Erm, no. The radio tuner remotes (RM-MC34LT and RM-MC37LT) have a remote plug that is of a slightly different shape than non-tuner remote plugs. They physically will not fit into the remote ports of units without the tuner module. Even if you modified the plug to fit, the radio would not work.

    Dilema

All Hi-MD units regardless of region come with one Hi-MD blank. The carrying pouch, I dunno about. It's just a cloth bag anyway, not very useful if you ask me. I would imagine the entire blister packing of the NHF800 weighs around a pound and a half, maybe three-quarters? I dunno. They feel kinda heavy at the store.
  22. Use Simple Burner. It's a lot better! For CDs I've purchased (almost all of them) it's very fast and easy. For MP3s I've downloaded off the net (all my J-Pop and such) I use the ImageDrive trick and it works great. Kinda slow though.

    Dilema

My N10 had VPT. It sounds like you're listening to your music in a big metal drum. Definitely not good, IMO. The Dolby NR Headphone on Sharp units is FAR superior. (Although I don't even use that.)
  24. It also costs $1900US. I don't THINK so.
