  1. That's a bit of a crazy sig you've got there Equally strange.
  2. I wonder when they will bring out Hi-MD boomboxes and Midi systems?
  3. Well that's the rough jist of any compressed sound format, it trys to remove the bulk of what is not heard.
  4. So basically it's not strictly true.
  5. It was one at bluewater shopping center. I thought it was odd, but it was marked up at that price on the shelf and scanned at the price too. They had two x 5 packs left.
  6. I just got back from my local Dixons where they are selling 5 packs of 1GB discs for £6.99. I couldn't believe it. Just to confirm these are proper 1GB discs, not the repackaged normal ones. The cheapest I'd seen them elswhere was 4.99 for one.
  7. Forget the ipod. If you want a HDD based machine get something else, like the zen or iriver. Although I'm more than happy with my HI-MD. The best bit being that I can still upgrade the hardware when I want and still play the discs. That's removable storage for you!
  8. I have to say that initially I was impressed with Hi-LP. But after a while it just sounded like somebody had thrown a big wet towel over the speakers, and I couldn't live with the quality. I didn't want to compromise on space too much and have now settled on Atrac 105 compression setting. It sounds miles better and is a good compromise between Hi-LP and LP2. So about 19 hours on a 1GB disc is fine for me. I agree too that I wish they could have supplied a higher Hi-LP setting like 84kps. Which would have knocked a few hours off a disc but still probably given at least 25-30 hours per disc of much better quality than 64kps. Which IMO is just a bit to low.
  9. What's improved over 2.0? 2.0 seems pretty good to me as it is.
  10. Have to disagree here. I've had no problems or crashes with the SS software. My PC always recognises the device as does SS. I don't think it's particularly slow. It's no slower than iTunes for example. As to your gripe about the media, well I bought 4 1GB discs last week from audiocubes.com Another thing. The rubbber plug over the USB port still fits fine on miy 600D after 3 weeks. Have you been mistreating yours? Yes, it's a plastic design, but I don't have any problems with it at all. I really like it. I'm not interested in uploading my own recordings (like many others I'd guess) so that's no loss to me. It's a great unit, that stores a lot of music and data. Does what it says on the box very well IMO.
  11. Yeah, since I'd have no use for optical in, i thought it wasn't worth the extra cash.
  12. Ah, I imported my 600. Didn't knwo they were out in London. I bought some 1GB discs from audiocubes.com
  13. The UK unit release isn't until August 5th. So I doubt media would be out before then.
  14. Just thought I'd let you know my discs have arrived. Not bad from the US to the UK. Only 4 days I think the discs were sourced from Japan since the writing on the back is in Japanese. ooooh, it's time to make some compilations
  15. Sounds like the problem lies in your MP3 codec. I've certainly had no problems like you describe.
  16. As title. I've noticed this forum is incredibly slow at loading pages. It's like using the internet in 1995.
  17. I doubt it. I'd have thought most US retailers would stock the US version. What a crazy thought!
  18. However to somebody that just wants to rip CDs and MP3s to a Hi-MD and enjoy the massive capacity for music on the move, Hi-MD is a godsend. It's not all doom and gloom.
  19. That's a pain. But surely it's recording lengths are of benefit still?
  20. Just tried some MP3 files with SS2 this evening. Seems to work fine and dandy.
  21. audiocubes.com Not bothered about shipping since I live in the UK, so it's very cheap for me.
  22. I just found a site online that has stock of them. $6 each. So I ordered three to start off with. They say my order will be shipped tomorrow!! Yay!
  23. Amazon UK are quoting August 5th for the 600 and 800 models.Although this could change and I suspect it will. Since I couldn't wait, (and wouldn't use the optical line in) I've ordered a 600D from the US, and hopefully should have it by next week.
  24. Thanks for that.It looks a little bulky compared that other one. But is probably a bit slimmer than my old player I bought back in '01 Still, can't complain
