I hope you play music better than you understand MD.
-
Yep, 600D all the way. You can't go wrong. Minidisc is still the best econonically portable music system on the market today.
-
I agree, unless you are recording your own music isn't PCM overkill?
-
The same way you hold other dual sided discs?
-
1GB discs are actually something like 36MB short of 1GB.
-
Do you think this is true?
-
Yeah, I think it is better than Mp3 at the same bitrate. it sounds as good as an MP3 at 128kbs.
-
I'm happy with the volume of my 600D I got from minidisco. Will hacking it improve my volume even more?
-
Must have been a misprice. They put them out on the shelves in packs of 5 rather than individually and then charged 6.99 for a pack. Guess I'm just lucky I got 5 for 6.99

I like minidisc because it's proven. I've never had a disc die on me. I might at some point consider a HDD jukebox, but I'd always live in concern that one day it might just stop working. I have Hi-MD right now, which is fine for my needs. 27 hours battery life on a single AA and 16-20 hours of music per disc.

Well you've had two out of three votes in favour of minidisc. The only vote for the Ipod is from the forums resident Ipod user. I don't have an Ipod myself (or plan to get one) but my cousin bought one and it died after two months. So he lost his faith in it, especially when he had to return it online and found he had to tick a box out of several 'things that have gone wrong' to let them know what had gone wrong. Made him think that ipods tend to break down quite frequently.

And yet he still feels drawn to his minidisc.

Better sound quality? It doesn't have that 'lemming' factor either.

A Little Question About The Atrac/atrac3/atrac3+
Fast Eddie replied to a topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Why doesn't it make sense? -
Yeah, I've got 13 so far. 5 still unused. I've put my entire radio play collection on three 1GB discs, and the rest is just for music.
-
1. Because I like Minidisc 2. Because it offers much larger capacity 3. I can (not yet) play my discs on other equipment. And still play them if I buy another better Hi-MD.
-
I've been using 105 quite a bit. But what bitrate is it comparable to for MP3? To me it sounds better than an MPs encoded at 112. What do you think?
-
Just another reason why minidisc is better
-
I did have trouble with a windows XP update caused it to crash once. But downloading the right patch and all was hunky dory.
-
Funny how it doesn't work for some. Worked fine straight out of the box for me.
-
Buying a proper CD means you can rip it into any file format you want. It's like having a proper master copy. Downloading music just doesn't appeal to me. I'm sure it only appeals to people that don't realise they are buying something inferior.
-
Call me old fashioned, but I still like to have a plastic case and a nice booklet.
-
More recording bitrate options would be first on my list of changes. A Hi-LP mode with a higher bitrate for starters.
-
Mr Wong, it's obvious your're wrong here. Accept defeat beofe you show yourself up any further!

I don't know about the rest of the world, but in the UK HD-DVD is being launched later this year, with no sign of a Bluray launch, possibly not for another year. This will give HD-DVD a big head start. I certainly see both formats surviving for a few years. HD-DVD at the moment is much cheaper for studios to manufacture, and has the benefit of being DVDs official sucessor. Bluray isn't DVD after all, it's Bluray. It largely depends how the masses see the formats. Which will be cheaper to the consumer? Probably HD-DVD to start with.
