  1. I'm assuming I need to load old machine files on MD itself, then transfer to new machine? Can anyone identify with my problem? Also, FLAC seems to be the way to go for HD storage, yes? WAV to burn CD's. And bang it down to MP3 to send via internet. Can I get an amen?
  2. Interesting notion. None as of yet on the IZZ website. It's still in the works. I suppose if I got my act together, I could post some samples here of my own MD recordings of the band. What a novel freakin concept! I'll get to work.
  3. Thanks A440. You do so much at this place. You simply kick ASS! NEW PROBLEM: Performed SS backup from old machine (SS 3.2) onto external HD. Try to access files on new machine (SS3.2) and get this SS message: "There is invalid rights management information in the open MG content." It asks me if I want to go online (connect store) to find the lisence. No dammit! These are all my own original recordings! Any way you know of for me to access my XHD files in SS? This sonic stage, for me, has just been a comedy of errors. I'm not laffin'.
  4. IZZ set to release My River Flows, all-new studio album, on December 6, 2005 Doone Records is pleased to announce the upcoming release of the All-New Studio Album from IZZ, My River Flows, on December 6, 2005. As the successor to I Move, My River Flows continues to raise the musical bar. From the explosive opening title track to the 21-minute closer, “Deafening Silence”, My River Flows is an emotionally charged listening experience. “We’re very proud of My River Flows and very excited to share our new music,” said keyboardist/vocalist/producer Tom Galgano. “We’ve put a lot of ourselves into this album and I think that really shines through.” My River Flows My River Flows 5:28 Late Night Salvation 12:16 Rose Colored Lenses 3:40 Deception 7:17 Crossfire 8:33 Anything I Can Dream 3:22 Abby’s Song 3:48 Deafening Silence 21:36 Hailing from just outside Manhattan, IZZ is a talented young band that first made a name for themselves through heavy gigging and a diverse and unique debut CD, 1999’s Sliver of a Sun. Living proof that progressive rock need not be stuck in the 70s, IZZ’s take on the style is one that marries the influences of the “classic” bands with a fearlessly modern sound. Celtic, classical, funk, fusion, jazz and Latin styles are interwoven with their accessible yet forward-thinking rock, always retaining a keen sense of melody and an overall appreciation for the song as a cohesive whole. The compositions may take the listener in unexpected directions, but the way back is always marked with a great hook or melody. The band released its second CD, I Move, in 2002. I Move solidified IZZ as a major player in the field of melodic progressive rock. In 2004 IZZ released its third offering entitled Ampersand, Volume 1, a collection of previously unreleased studio and live tracks that span virtually the band’s entire career. IZZ’s musicians are talented multi-instrumentalists and adept at multi-part vocal harmonies. Lead vocals are shared between the Galgano brothers (Tom and John), while the percussion duties are split in a decidedly unique way: Greg DiMiceli plays an acoustic kit while Brian Coralian uses his various acoustic and electronic percussives to accent and enhance the rhythmic structure of IZZ’s tunes. The result is a fascinating palette of sounds and a bold statement in a genre where fans and musicians too often cringe at the thought of any kind of electronic percussion. Guitarist Paul Bremner brings his own emotional, virtuosic guitar work into the mix and along with John on bass, Tom on keyboards round out the instrumentation. The stunning voices of Anmarie Byrnes and Laura Meade on lead and backing vocals complete the unique IZZ sound. IZZ: Tom Galgano – Keyboards, lead vocals John Galgano – Bass, guitar, keyboard, lead and backing vocals Paul Bremner – Lead Guitar Brian Coralian – Electronic and Acoustic drums and percussion, programming Greg DiMiceli – Acoustic drums and percussion (and trial and error MD recordings!) 5. Thanks Sunny. Can I just get someone to second this? I really want to be sure that this method is as permanent and thorough as doing it on the player. Thanks y'all.
  6. Yo everybody- As far as labelling/titling on the MD before transfering is concerned, can you do this *in* the transfer window instead of on the MD player and achieve the same results. I find navigating the alphabet with jog dial on MD a pain in the A. I'd rather use the keyboard. Anyone? Mustaffa- That sucks that you lost your stuff, dude. I lost a couple of my first things I ever recorded: my kids' voices and stuff. Definitely test out your system with some less important recordings before you catch the next rave.
  7. I thought I saw this addressed here once, but can't find it. Is there a different version of Sonic Stooge that is network friendly? I had Sonic Stool loaded on to my new (windows) machine at work where I'm at the mercy of a network / server-type situation. My technician also upgraded to 3.2. Every time I run Sonic Stammer I get this message that tells me I'm not a "power user" or an "administrator" and "some functions may not be available" to me. When I connect the MD, I can't even get to the transfer window. Does this sound like a Super Shit restriction or something my network is imposing? Is there any hope?
  8. How do I put this? This might be a long one... I'm ok with computers, but I'm no geek! When it comes to codecs and some technical stuff, I'm a dummy. I need my hand held and things explained. This is why I'm simply friggin nuts for this place. You guys are all so cool with your advice, so helpful. So thanks in advance. I'm thrilled with my equipment so far: nh 900, auris mics, boost box. I've made GREAT recordings and I want to share them either by CD or email/etc. I got a horse eating grass- mics right up to his nose, Miles Davis in the rain, my band segue-ing in off the grand finale of a fireworks display, my kids, and so much more. I only use my md for mic recording. The 'connect store' means nothing to me. Just so you know where I'm comin from. Here's what I'd like to be able to do: -burn a cd of a mix of things for family. -compile many recordings on to one cd for my records (backup) -attach an audio clip to an email -submit a one minute vacation to quietamerican.org -put up some clips on our very own MDCF gallery! -not swamp my computer with all these music files and duplicates Here's what I HAD: -an old Gateway machine w/ no cd burner -SS 2.something, updated to 3.2 Here's what I HAVE: (we were fortunate to inherit) Dell Dimension 4300 Win XP Home v. 2002 SP 2 intel ® pent ® 4 CPU 1600 MHz 1.60GHz 512 RAM currently have 2.17 of 18.6 GB available. Sonic Stage 3.2 -also- I bought a Maxtor 250 GB external HD to help transfer photo and SS files from old Gateway(usb 1.x) to Dell(fire wire), and eventually use as storage for such files. Questions: -what's a good program for editing: taking one minute of this track, fading into another snippet of another track, normalizing?, getting the best possible sound out of the original recording(usually hi-sp), etc. Maybe I used Audacity wrong in the past, but it (the files) took up a hell of a lot of HD space and I didn't know where to put 'em. - mp3, .wav, flac, ogg.... what's best for what? -storage. What do/don't I need to store? I'd hate to lose priceless recordings of my kids' voices. But if I 'render' to .wav, do I need to save the omg (initial Sony format?)? I don't consider myself a noob. Perhaps more of a boob. If some of you could delve into my concerns, I'd really appreciate. I have a feeling many others would benefit from this as well. Thanks as always. GREG
  9. Hey all, Well, I'VE been away from the forums for a while myself. You know... busy life: kids, work, wuv-wee wife, etc. It's good to be back. The constant here, clearly, has been Kurisu's dedication to keeping this place well oiled and functional. Dude, you plainly kick ass. Keep on keepin on. I look forward to continued contribution and education. GREG
  10. what mics did you get? BTW, love my 900 also!
  11. Ouch!! Why do the drummers always have to get the shaft?!? I take pride in my solos. FURTHERMORE, they take place few and far between--and my band even has two drummers!! AND we play long sets. I guess we're not friendly to 80 minute discs and convenient disc changes. Of course, all my comments are light-hearted. Seriously, my band IZZ has a gig in Lowell, Massachussetts where it's just us for 2 long sets. We may play for 3 - 3.5 hours. I'm planning on going hi-sp to a blank 1gb disc. I should have no worries about disc space, right? Anyone? Hayduke, I may have missed this somewhere else, but what's your recording rig? What equipment do you use other than your 700?
  12. Ricardo, thanks for your reply. Anybody know of any other places/forums on the 'net where I might get more of a response to this query? Obviously, I ain't gettin shee-it from here.....except for you Ricardo! Thanks again!
  13. I have a battery box, but I do like not carrying an extra box around. ← Kind sir, please chime in on this subject here. Many thanks.
  14. K- Didn't want to start a new topic just for this, so here goes. Can you fit the following navigation device at the bottom of a page as well as the top? Minidisc Community Forums > Administrivia > Comments/Suggestions to Minidisc.org + Forums I find myself using it more than the drop down menu and often wish to use it at the bottom of most pages I'm on. Also, is it possible to get the login and password boxes back at the tops of pages? I don't like to have to click the 'login' link, wait...........then log in. I'd rather just go to text boxes at top of page, and not have to scroll to the bottom to find 'em. Go ahead, call me lazy and tell me I'm off topic.
  15. Sorry, but I say Boo too. I don't mind the big numbers...kind of like 'em, but the topic/title placement has my eyes searching too long. I like the columns. They help my eyes keep things organized/categorized/separated. I had to go back to rooq to really appreciate this. Just give me the standard default (which I still think is quite distinguished looking) and eye and my I's will be happy. : ) Thanks for continuing to aim to please.
  16. Battery Box or separate microphone preamp: Please tell what you use, how and why, and what results you get from your recordings. I kind of already tried this here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...indpost&p=37315 ...and a surprisingly small number of people came forward. Is it possible that far fewer folks than I thought actually utilize a battbox or preamp? Huh! I have been keeping up with the robust discussion going on here which has helped prove to me, once and for all, that I need to add a mic preamp (most likely) to my arsenal. OK, fine, but which one? I play drums. At times I play bombastically loud. I want a device that can go between my mics and my NH900 which will allow my recorder to capture every nuance of my playing, be it bombastically loud or subtley sweet, without distortion or clipping or audible compensation, then get the polite applause of an audience, then crickets chirping and wine glasses tinkling in the background. Know whatta mean? I want to listen back as if I'm there...withoutdistortionclipping,etc... So........If you have an answer to my question, please provide a testimonial. GREG Battery Box or separate microphone preamp: Please tell what you use, how and why, and what results you get from your recordings.
  17. Wow Mr. "Tuning Fork!" I must commend you on your gentle and diplomatic handling of the self-admitted Mr. "Snarky." You tell it to the mod! Uh, Dex, I still highly value your opinion and think you're great!!
  18. Good luck w/ your Auris microphones! I'm a proud and very satisfied user. I can't help but to mention the Radio Shack volume attenuator as a potential "middle ground" buffer for your setup. Here's what I mean... You might (and I emphasize MIGHT) find that for your recording situations, your auris-->himd combo picks up sound TOO well! I found that on "Standard" and "High Sens" w/ my nh900 some sounds would distort a bit because these settings w/ my auris are just so sensitive. But, with other combinations of "loud music" and/or "low sens" I'd felt like I was losing out on some of the magic of the moment--no distortion, but also less intensity to the recording. The RS vol. att. allows me to stay "standard/high sens" so I can get intense sound reproduction while flying within that distortion envelope. Again, your recording circumstances determine what's needed and what's not. ...just a thought. Granted, if you go to record stuff louder than acoustic piano, guitar, etc, then you do enter the battery box/preamp realm. An inve$tment that rivals your very microphones themselves. Anyway, for more on that volume attenuator, check the following thread. I know it's long, but DAMN there's a lot of good info in there: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=5908&st=0 Also: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7106 For under ten bucks, ya hafta at least give it a try.
  19. Please post any findings here. I'm still holding off on purchasing the Boost Box because I don't know if there's anything else out there that'll suit my needs better: maybe something a little smaller. Not sure how strongly I feel about bass rolloff yet nor do I really know which models offer it. Haven't really scrutinized anybody else's offerings yet (sound pros, et al). More opinions welcome!!
  20. I must wholeheartedly agree that "a hole in the back of your shit pocket" is a good thing. Seriously Dave, I'll give you a shout since no one has yet. You bring up a question I've been meaning to ask for a while. How DO you stealth bootleggers do it--get your stuff into the venue? Perhaps if there's enough input on this we can assign it its own thread. Sounds like you got your system pretty down pat, though. Makes me think...if big brother cams were ever placed in bathroom stalls, imagine the shit they'd see?? [Yes, pun intended in every way you can think of.] All these people in there fidgeting with all kinds of equipment..... I'd better quit now before I get too silly. Anyway, welcome Dave. This is a great place.
  21. This might be just what you're looking for. Probably perfect [and cheap] for acoustic music that's not too loud...not too soft. It may provide you with just the buffer you need and allow you to experiment with high sensitivity. I'm not sure if it's a consensus around here or not, but definitely go for the manual recording level. Especially since you'll be using it for round-table rehearsals. You can just try different levels/combos until you find the g spot. Do be sure and note your settings somewhere on each recording so you know what the hell you did that worked! Knowwudda mean?
  22. I mostly sing in the shower and in the car. But I too am thrilled with my NH900 and its ability to reproduce sound. Yes, you really do want to get microphones that are worthy of your machine. Hold on to your money for a while, browse these forums a lot, and I mean a lot--there's an unbelievable wealth of information here, and soon you'll end up with the best equipment your budget will allow that also suits your needs. Sorry I'm not linking you to specific threads that answer your questions. There's just too many and I don't have them at my fingertips. I would definitely suggest not to skimp on the mics, though. What are the circumstances of your singing group? Large, small, a cappela, accompanied? Big room, small room, outdoors?

which trailer are you thinking about?
  24. OK, I finally have to ask....what the hell's a blog? All along I've been thinking it was this guy --->

    Street Ride

Uh, I've been known to crank from the streets to the trails. But not much these days. Besides, when I do ride nowadays it's on sidewalks with my Avenir kids trailer hooked up to my Gary Fisher HooKooE.Koo towing my twins. This summer I might get a few spins with my 15 month old son. Yes...life is pretty different these days.
