How much did your 900 cost if it was packed in plastic ??? in the bottom picture, what is the flat electronic thing that is behind the player but next to the packaging ??? it doesn't look like it's part of the minidisc package

Tapes are still used a lot, and tapes are used where the minidisc shouldn't go or if there are problems with the minidisc. there are no plans to abandon tape recording. got 3 tape recording walkmans, one old and battered sony recorder, one newish and cheap digitor(doesn't record well and rarely gets used) and one new sony (the best of the taping ones) recorder. Usually the two sony ones are kept in the same bag as the minidisc.

The "old" computer used to be used a lot for putting tape recordings onto computer, until a constant humming sound was found that is always there even when nothing is connected to the computer. It also works its way into recordings and pushes the entire waveform downwards so it looks off center when the wave is "viewed" in a wave editor How to get rid of this interference ??? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The "old" computer is an old 1998 pentium 233 with windows 95 and a sound blaster awe64. Wasn't willing to use minidisc yet because there is only one shot at uploading, unecessary drm, one extra step than recording straight to computer and problems with the "new" computer. Also when cool edit is used to get rid of the humming unpleasant metallic crunches appear in the finished sound. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also recording problems with the "new" computer. When a sound source (not usb minidisc) is connected to the new computer and played, no sound will come out of the computer speakers sometimes or if it does, cool edit would not pick up the sound and records blank. Sound will only come if the video catcher is started and cool edit still will not pick up the sound. How to fix this ???

originally used the bag that comes with the player (nh700), but nowadays it is kept in a thick fluffy beanie hat with a corded mic for easy recording. One day an armored bag will be made from scratch for it using material from a salvage shop like clear plastic awning material, scrap canvas and duct tape. This should help fend off scratches and dust.

Australia's 700's come in a box, didn't see the cheaper models, but plastic "display" packs make the enclosed product look cheap and low quality. My 700 box also came with a plain white box taped to it containing the introductory offer freebies.

now starting to use minidisc to listen to music from cd as the computer has lost its sound and too lazy to go to the cd player to change the discs as well as tons of sound recordings of public transport, strictly no car sounds except if its used in the war against car culture and the urban blight it causes, and also sound recording with the neighbors, homemade sounds like rain on the tin treehouse roof, the pet gecko squeaking, christmas light transformers buzzing away in some weird musical tunes, the homemade lego space buggy driving, billycarts roaring down the street and too many more to mention

Is packaging minidisc players in plastic still common nowadays??? or is it rare and only used for the cheaper models ??? Were any of the more expensive models packaged in plastic in the past too ???

sound recording and also a spot to save homework onto ever since getting it last august the player is yet to be used for listening to music

Will one mic work of the plug in power type work with little or no loss of sound quality if it is connected to two recorders at the same time ??? Or will the power waves coming from both recorders at the same time cause problems ??? How would a battery operated mic handle being connected to two recorders at the same time ???

Will Sonicstage restore a backup archive if it has missing or broken files in it ??? The archive is stored on a dvd rw (plus) and one 000.oma wouldn't copy because of a fault with the disc. Or will the whole archive get written off and is unusable because Sonicstage wouldn't restore it even if one oma is missing ??? Is there also a way of finding out which tracks is contained in each .oma??? It would be helpful to find out exactly which tracks got ruined. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Luckily due to triple saving in "Wave Converted" and "Total Recorded" flavors, whatever tracks are missing from the Sonicstage archive are backed up in wavs and also all wavs came off the same disc without a hitch.

Did buy a new cord a while back as a spare, but it ended up being the one used the most. One day the player worked, the next it didn't, while at the same time nothing was changed on the computer and no errors happened. ~~~more late news~~~ The repair shop said the previous repairs was resoldering the usb connectors and the repairers didn't look at the player's electronics. Warranty repairs are not done there and get sent off far away. Hopefully it comes back fixed properly this time. ~~~noteworthy coincidence~~~ This time the minidisc repair was labeled "job 7240", not much later, a bus numbered 7240 was taken, only found out after getting off so it's a real coincidence.

Xindows xp and Sonicstage 2.1 It also looks like Sonicstage has nothing to do with it as the player doesn't tell the computer it's there. The other computers tried was a win98 notebook (it asked for a driver, saying the player was found) and my sister's xp notebook (it did everything as before and appeared as storage) except the disc didn't spin as it should do.

Your extremely wrong CrackBone, no more stupid jokes, the proof of purchase was found and it said so before your post. Got the player back today, exactly the same problem as before, also tried it on the other computers at home today, the player introduces itself to the other computers, but the disc doesn't spin like when it was brand new meaning the player must still be broken in the same way as before, guess the only way out is to get the original factory settings restored because it's now obvious how this one slipped through the cracks. Now it's back to getting the player fixed again.

Sonicstage has destroyed the tracks, getting the tracks back isn't possible at this stage. The only way to avoid losing tracks is to "play it into the computer" real time and record it before letting sonicstage upload it. If that recording is very important, return to the show and re record it or put the disc aside until the day recovering lost tracks comes. The player also writes the most important stuff on the disc in a "hidden" spot that windows can't find so that copies don't play. There is also only one shot at uploading, even if a track screws up, there will still be no second chance and double trouble as the track on the disc will be destroyed too.

the usb on my 700 did already break a few weeks ago, but it's not known if the connector physically broke or if it is the player's settings that broke. usually the mic is always connected to the player so it's always ready to record but this shouldn't cause the usb to break
-
total record it first (real time) before letting sonicstage upload it, so if sonicstage destroys the tracks, there's still a solid copy to work from

Beware, when removed the "official and safe" way it could crash the apple and the player too. There are times when it will come out without trouble but good times only come at random. The minidisc is also slow when copying large items so it is ideal for saving small things. Large things could take a very long time to save.

Got no pda and no pda synchronizers and directly connecting the player to pc did nothing so now it's off to the repair shop . Finally found the proof of purchase (after turning the house upside down) and after spending 40 minutes trying to find the repair center (which is hidden at the end of a maze of streets), finally sent it in. Now it's back to tape recording again for the next few weeks unfortunately. Got a brand new tape recording walkman (tcm200dv) later that day as the battered old tape recorder (tcm20dv) has lost a lot of its sound quality.

It was connected direct to computer. It worked normally until yesterday when the minidisc suddenly quit and wouldn't work anymore. Also been trying to take it to Sony for repair as the player may be broken inside, but the proof of purchase is still nowhere to be found, even after digging through nearly everywhere it possibly could be. It still records and plays normally, just the usb connector doesn't work anymore.

Did that several times, but the problem is still there. Also waited about 12 minutes before replacing the batteries. Also left it overnight with the batteries out, but that solved nothing.

Today, my 700 has come unstuck and now has problems, the computer doesn't see the minidisc anymore. on the first go, the player was connected to the computer while it was "asleep", nothing happens even if it should awaken upon connecting to computer on the second go the disc was taken out, then put back in, while the disc is spinning, the player is connected to the computer, it will say pc>>md but nothing happens at the computer's end and the disc will spin continuously, looks like the minidisc got the computer's greeting but didn't greet back. Just took the disc out, it is still "spinning" and saying pc>>md even after the disc is removed. on the third go reconnect the player to the computer while open, and put a disc in, the player stays asleep Has anyone got a way to fix this problem ???

a bad novelty, After getting three 1 gig discs, the 1 gig discs were put into the classic plastic slipcases and the oversize cases are used to store rarely used discs. The big cases are also subject to shattering, cracking or breakage when taken loose inside a bag while the classic slipcases simple bend there way out of trouble

Got 2.1, and there were no problems with going minidisc to computer until recently, 2 screw ups already, it could be sonicstage "wearing out" that does it. Nowadays, multiple backups ensure nothing gets lost. All sound is triple backed up, firstly with Totalrecorder, then the sonicstage library which is "closed" and burned to cd or dvd when it reaches the ripe size, and with Wave Converter. The sonicstage library's size is always checked and never allowed to grow too big. The fourth one is the "final edits" which are used for listening. all tunes in each of the three backups start with total~recorded, sonicstaged or wave~converted in there name so tracing is easier if the backups accidentally get mixed up. If and upload screws up, the total recorded wave will get $$$$$$$$$$ put on the end like upload~screwed~sound_$$$$$$$$$$.wav to say extra care must be taken with that tune as that is the only "original". This way will chomp through a lot of blank cd's and dvd's but its the safest way as the sonicstaged originals will be hard to get to once burned to disc

If an upload from minidisc to computer screws up, the disc that screwed up is put aside and marked so it will not be used for recording ever again. Such discs will only be used for playback from now on. Is this going too far ??? and if the disc if formatted and erased, will future uploads from or downloads to the same disc screw up too ??? For this reason, all sound recording is done on the classic smaller discs, if a disc screws up, it will be a $3 disc that gets put in the playback only pile instead of a $10 disc
