tribalwind replied to mkeswani's topic in Minidisc

Hello, so it appears the LCD on my nh900 has stopped working...i dont know if its fixable?, so that is part 1 of my question.it didnt have any physical trauma from dropping or hitting etc... im hoping maybe jsut a wire to re-solder or something... assuming i cant fix the lcd, how might i go about changing recording modes/settings? is there any way to do it through the wired-remote? i dont see anything in the options menues on there(from holding display in a few seconds) im thinking i need to focus more on fixing or replacing the lcd screen in some cost effective manner.... i use it alot for my Live performances and rehearsals so if its hopeles si'll have to buy another one...i havent seen or heard of anything out there that records better that this in a portable device, been very happy with it till now

me too, i'm trying to transfer a 256-hi-md format track from my mz-nh900 now. there are 2 tracks on this 1gig disc. 1st one is about 40minutes long (my feature-performance) the 2nd track is another 1.5 hours (follow-up acts) 1st track went fine. 2nd gives"internal error" it'll get to 31% and crap out. same with playing with SS3.1... i havent tried yet on it's own but wil do so. havent tried the unplug/reboot/eject etc tricks yet either. the same thing happens on home and work pc's both are higher end machines.(CADD Station/ gaming&MM machine)

North Indian Classical Styled Recording ~ Mz-nh900
tribalwind replied to tribalwind's topic in Live Recording
Hey thanks dex' the flute is a "bansuri" btw, bamboo flute that i make.. i cant find any folders in the link you sent, ? we had another long piece that was 20 minutes of pure bliss. which will remain only in that moment in time, since i had plugged the MIC into the HEADPHONE line remote without even noticing...LOL. i was PO'd -
made this the other night with my friend michelle, was our first time trying this, i've never played along to tamboura before and really enjoyed the steady harmonic droning. the mic was her sony ecm-7 something. has 90/120 degree settings. hopefully this link will work , http://us.f1f.yahoofs.com/bc/10f57c52/bc/m...C5H6ECBswLmSiue if not it in my yahoo briefcase "my music" http://briefcase.yahoo.com/tribal_wind named 2-7-05 etc..... all i did with this was add slight reverb to smooth it a bit. i probably need to increse the amplification a bit too.

well, i just bought a nh900 from someone in the classified section, and got stiffed on the AA-battery case (i believe unintentionally though, theyre looking for it) the add did list a battery case but aparently that just meant the clear plastic one for the gumstick anyhow,if they cant find it i want to buy one as i have a ton of rechargable nimh's i use for my dig.cam. assuming i can and assuming it wont be ridiculously priced, (i think much over 20 would be ridiculous) is there anyplace this is available? ive searched a bit to no avail

<clip> nice 1' thanks,i found riverfast teh otherday when looking for MOV to MPGEG converter,,, hey btw, is classical gas a jim croce original? i know he played/covered it in any case..love that dude'~!

Anyone have this mic? sound professionals SP-PSM-4 was thinking that switchable omni/cardioid pattern could come in handy sometimes. theres another switchable for about 2x the $ also http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/...specifications# p.s to corien, i cant find my original Bansuri recording but i will make many new ones now that i have my MD waiting to be unpackaged at home now UPS just confirmed;)

the problems we have are that people in the back of the room have trouble hearing everyone, and the flutes and singers get drowned out by hand drums and harmonium. we only mic when needed. when i play solo i only mic wheni want alot of reverb.otherwise its not needed. places with natural acoustics are of course exquisite to play in,(like the quicktime clip of the beach tunnel) -- hey thanks! glad you liked it. it was all done directly to PC(using cool edit pro) with a junky $5 clip-on radioshack mic. track 11 i must've left the wrong file linked. that file was supposed to be a 56k'er friendly version. i want to stream all new tracks,,1-step at a time i guess.... hey another OT question, is thre a quicktime MOV-editor program for PC? that i could clean up the audio with in mov vids.? nevermind i found a few:)

thank you dex. man you guys are quick' in very small rooms we forego the amp, anything over 25 people or in larger spaces we use a portable 4/5channel amp , this is what i have, http://www.kustom.com/products/profile/pro...system_one1.asp you're absolutely right,i really should pick up a small mixer. i often play with an alesis reverb unit and i think putting that through a mixer would be eaiser to control it. ill look around at some simple models.

Hi' first i'd like to apologize for the most-likely unecessary new thread as im sure this has been discussed to near-death, i've done quite a lot of reading/searching here(great site!) but am simply overwhelmed and alot seems to discuss recording from within the audience moreso, as opposed to "on stage" and mainly loud/rock as far as bands... anyhow, i play and craft various styles of wood and bamboo flute. east-indian,native-american,celtic,japanese,persian and so on, im waiting for my mz-nh900 to arrive which i purchased from another member here. id like to know what mic(s) i should look at that woud give me the best performance for mostly quite environments(think yoga studios, dojos, beach, forest) i also play with others often and so would like to know how best to mic/record a group of say 3 to 6 players, plus audience during "kirtan" (hindu call/response devotional singing) which actually can get pretty loud and dynamic when the tempo speeds up! would it sound good if i split the channels ,1 direct from the PA and one from mono mic?is it possible to put multiple mics on 1 channel with some sort of splitter box? can someone comment on those $25 sound-professional mics ive heard of here? i would get 1 as an extra/practice-pic for recording during lunch in my car etc. i also record my own background environment sounds(tape deck!) so thats another consideration i have~ my budget's flexible, some recording will be for CD so quality and 'pureness' is important to me. i have a few older mp3 samples on my site where you can hear the style/type of sound im getting, thanks in advance!

Hard carrying case w/customizable interior
tribalwind replied to smkranz's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Cool, i have a similar case that i pulled out of the dumpster when i worked for Olympus camera(for all of 2 weeks!)actually i grabbed about 15 of them, they were made for high end cameras or video cams, all metal and super strong, these had a rubber gasket so it was watertight but i wouldnt scuba with it. sold em all on ebay years ago' though and just kept 1. this is giving me the idea to build a nice wood and/or bamboo case in my workshop, maybe with exotic hardwoods and some nice dovetails/fingerjoints and inlays.and sloped rounded edges, sorta like a surfboard rail..if it ever comes to fruition i'll post some pics -
Want To Sell My Nh900 + Five 1g Blanks - Help On Price
tribalwind replied to NtN's topic in Classifieds
i'm interested in buying a mh-nz900, and would be open to a used model if its in NEW cond. and meant saving a few bucks to put into a mic... i guess the hi-md's cost alot more in the U.K than here in the states? 180lbs would be around $340 which looks like $70 more than getting everything brand new if i got the #'s correct? (mz900-$240,md's-$7x5=35?) that would count out anyone in states buying it, hopefully you can recoupe more in europe. wish ya luck'. i agree with you too. i wouldnt sell if i had to take a big loss(but thats always the case with electronics) ,id try to find some use for it,or gift it or barter i guess -
From Crickets to Rock Concerts...poised to buy NH900
tribalwind replied to mgdimo's topic in Live Recording
I'd also like to compliment aaron on his excellent site. im listening to the vietnamese sounds with a coworker, who grew up there and escaped many years ago. im fairly new to recording, especially field sounds. looking for an mz-nh900 now. i have taken field recordings in the woods, ocean, lakes, streams around my home in long island, and use alot of it for backgrounds in my wood/bamboo flute playing. this site has me really inspired and motivated to get back out there and collect new samples. -
thank you both i will try back with BH soon'

Hello, ive been researching what to get for live music recording and practice sessions. im pretty much decided on the NH-900 (i noticed somewhere theres a 900-b?is this an upgraded/debugged version?) Anyhow, all my searches, including these forums(though not exhaustively perhaps), have turned up is online sources... is this model available in stores yet? i've only seen the 600 so far in very few stores here in ny. im talking pcrichard, bestbuy, circuit city etc... my next step may be to ask my employer (a large a/v design install firm) if they can pick me one up as they have wholesale/dealer acct, though im not sure what if any eqpt is unavailable to them ...like personal portables.. this would be in NYC/LI area thank you' Matthew www.tribalwind.com
