Taped A Show From The Board With My Mz-nh1.
emptyzero replied to emptyzero's topic in Live Recording
Anyone know what's up with SonicStage only playing one of the tracks at a time? Plays one track and stops, total recorder then records slience instead of going into the next track. -
Taped A Show From The Board With My Mz-nh1.

Thank you all for the great replies! -
It auto-tracked the recording! All of the audience taping I do, I tape the show as one file. I was really bummed that when taping from a soundboard a couple fridays ago the show was recorded into several different tracks, most tracks containing multiple songs. Now there are 2 second gaps that will make mixing it down with the Scheops audience source not impossible but at least noticeable I never switch the setting/mode, I didn't even find a setting to switch from recording 1 track to auto-tracking. I remember a thread in the Hi-MD forum that talked about what caused this auto-tracking but after multiple searches I just can't find it. Does anyone know what causes this auto-tracking and how it can be prevented? A friend commented that the unit must have sensed silence from the board feed and decided to make a new track.

Tips for recording LOUD bands (SSs --> MZ-NH1)
emptyzero replied to emptyzero's topic in Live Recording
Sonic Studios DSM-6S/L --> PA-6LC2 (85 cycle bass filter ON)--> Sony MZ-NH1 Hi-MD (record volume: set manually monday night, AGC: Standard, Mic Sensitivity: LOW) Hey Dex, does that sound like a winner for getting a good FOS at the deftones show monday night? I need to get out the manual and figure out how to shut AGC completely off. I've been hearing that the Loud Music setting isn't the greatest so right now I have it on Standard. -

Tips for recording LOUD bands (SSs --> MZ-NH1)

I emailed the creator of studio sonics and he's already gotten back to me.... "Always use MIC level input with these mics. Sony MD decks should usually be set to MANUAL REC level mode, not the default AUTO level for best results. However, Sony MD decks have deliberate problems with trying to record amplified events do to the deck being 'stuck' in HIGH GAIN mic input mode that causes overloads. If available, use LOW mic sensitivity setting as was available in earlier Sony MD decks with a switch on the backside, and as available in the <#20 REC level setting on ALL Sharp MD portables with MIC input jacks. Does the auto backlight setting suck up juice to the point that it affects the recording? -

Sonic Studios DSM-6S/L --> PA-6LC2 --> Sony MZ-NH1 Hi-MD I know the PA-6LC2 can't be considered a pre-amp but would you use the Line-In or the Mic-In with that rig A440? How can you be sure you're in manual mode? -

"always line in...the mic in has a limited dynamic range cos of it's built in power source" Scratch that, was talking to a friend and he told me why going with the LINE IN is better which is something dex was talking about. -

going through the MIC IN so this is for sure getting turned OFF when I tape on monday. The PA-6LC2 is a default 85 cycles with an on/off switch so either I have it or I don't. I think leaving AGC off and the PA-6LC2 on will help out in a big way. -

Both good posts that gave me things to try next time, thank you. I'll come back into this thread after the next show I record. -
Sonic Studios DSM-6S/L --> PA-6LC2 --> Sony MZ-NH1 Hi-MD I taped the blood brothers in minneapolis monday at 25 out of 30 with the 85 cycle bass roll off on and the loud setting on the nh1. there is distortion present, not enough to ruin it...actually pretty proud for it being the 1st time out with this rig but more than I would like. I know a lot of times it depends on the band/venue but in general does anyone have a number range (i.e. 17-20) for really loud bands? going to tape the deftones and dredg monday and I want to stand in front of a stack without getting a lot of distortion. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thank you. the volume level meter is pretty lame but as a unit the nh1 is sweet.

A440, that's the kind of post that sets it straight for all of us new guys, thank you. it's still awkward but i'll keep at it. very true Seikeden. edit: strange how recording something helps to get things going but i'm sure they all can't start out acting that fussy. i'm slowly getting happier about this purchase.

When recording in Total Recorder under 'playing volume and recording level' total recorder has 'leve' is that a boost depending on the recording? Is it ideal to boost it so that they recording is peaking without spending to much time in the red? edit: is it sometimes better to just leave it at a 0% boost? -
Davew, somewhat...still messing with the 5-way but I taped the blood brothers at the triple rock in minneapolis tonigh and it came out good from what I've heard. The remote came in handy!
-
This 5-way control is not impressive at all. I'm wondering what people with even bigger fingers than I do.

You were right Latexxx after having recorded something (not right away) I can now SOMEWHAT access the menu on the unit. Now when pressing menu on the unit instead of getting a flashing Display I get a flashing Edit, I try to FR down to more options and get Format ---> NO. This still seems weird to me but at least I'm not stuck with a flashing Display every time I hit menu on the unit. I appears that I can access the Menu fully on the remote so I'll live with that for now Thank you to all who took the time to post, please keep posting if you think there is anything I should know and or try.
-
important update in the NOOB saga of the week. I can access the menu from the remote by holding in the job for a few seconds but accessing the menu from the unit by holding in the menu button for a few to 5 seconds is still a no go. Maybe the flashing Display is the first option in the menu? either way...no matter which way I navigate on the 5-way control all I get is Lap Time. access the menu via remote yes access the menu via the unit no
-
What does the flashing Display signify? I can't get anywhere near accessing the menu.
-
Sonic Studios DSM-6S/L --> PA-6LC2 pre-amp --> Sony MZ-NH1 Hi-MD I played some music off of my stereo and recorded it. It plays back fine but when I hold the menu button on the unit down for a good 5 seconds I still only get the flashing Display. I try to navigate from there using the 5-way control and I get the Lap Time.
-
Did you have a similar problem accessing the menu?
-
Ok Latexxx I will try that next, thanks...but first I wanted to post that I'm on page 66 of the manual trying to set the Menu Mode. 1. "Enter the menu and select "Options" - "Menu Mode" Still can't get passed the flashing "Display" into the "Options" in order to set the menu mode to 'simple' or 'advanced'
-
Page 27 - "If you are doing a menu operation for the first time after purchasing the recorder "Menu Mode" flashes in the display." I do not get a flashing "Menu Mode" I get a flashing "Display." I'm really confused as to why I'm getting Display instead of Menu Mode. Nothing else is being done, just holding Menu for 5 seconds.
-
Held Menu in for 5 seconds and got the flashing Display. Used the FR portion of the 5-way control to try and navigate the menu as the manual says on page 28. That gives me a flashing Lap Time. Pressing FR again just brings up the flashing No Track. I take it I'm not even in the menu. How can I get passed the flashing Display and into t he menu? I must need to set the menu mode?
