  1. I wouldnt bother re-recording everything onto Hi-MD disc's as there's no point?! The Hi-MD unit play's normal Minidiscs fine! In fact i don't think id really use Hi-MD media, only for large compilation's. I have over 300 MD blank's because a couple of years ago i feared minidisc would fail as a format so i panic bought loads of disc's So id just use those instead!
  2. Hi I was just wondering wether anyone else has had trouble migrating to Hi-MD? I've used Minidisc since aroung 97 and have hundred's of md's! About 2 month's ago i purchased a MZ-NH600 but have been having trouble making the switch! My problem is that im quite stuck in my way's (even though im only 24 and not 65 and wearing cardigans) and have been opticaly recording my MD's from my CD player since the beginning and am quite happy with 80 min's of audio on a disc! But im also a gadget freak and really want to start using my 600 and Hi-MD in general using the PC etc. What make's it harder is the fact that my JB940 which sounds sooooo good and my not as good sounding but very sexy E10 will be made redundant if i make the switch! And another thing is that Atrac3plus doesnt sound as good as Atrac on the JB940! HELP What do i do?
  3. Hi to answer your questions: 1. No, you cannot use Hi-MD disc's on your unit. 2. The new Hi-MD unit's can be connected to a PC and used as data drive's along with transfering music etc. 3. Click here: http://www.minidisc.org/manuals/sony/sony_...zr37_manual.pdf To download your unit's user manual and that has simple step by step instruction's on how to record! Good luck!
  4. That's why i do it! Also, unless your using Hi-MD, which i dont as it's incompatable with my existing deck's and car unit, then all you can get through SonicStage is LP2! Do you still think im senile?
  5. Hi Welcome to the forums! Firstly, you cannot upload recording's to SonicStage made on a NETMD recorded! You are also connecting to your PC using the wrong method for using sonicstage, there should be a USB data cable with you MD unit which is what you must use to connect to your PC. The only way to get your audio onto your PC is to use a 3.5mm Stereo plug to plug lead and connect one end to the "Line Out" of your MD and the other to the "Line In" of your PC! (the same way you were trying before but without using sonic stage). Hopefully another forum user can recommend a suitable PC application that you can use to record from your PC's line input as a wav file! Then you can burn it to CD! You were halfway there! Hope this is useful!
  6. Hello! Welcome to the forums  Well, for recording digitaly you need to have a piece of equipment with an "optical output". Most CD/DVD player's and PC soundcard's have them. There should have been a thin cable that came with your MD unit, with what looks like a standard headphone jack on one end and a square plastic block on the other. This is what's known as a "TOSlink" cable. So, if you look on the back of your CD/DVD player you should see a connector with a protruding plastic cover labeled as "Digital Out". Plug the squareish end in there and the other end into the "Optical/Line" input of your MD player. Make sure your MD player has "SYNC" recording enabled (see your user manual). Press REC on your MD recorder and it will enter recording mode but wont start recording until it recieves an audio signal. Next press Play on your CD/DVD player and your MD player will start recording! Simple Also with this method the player will automaticly insert track marks matching the original CD! Hope this makes sense!
  7. Hi and welcome to the forums! If you highlight the track names etc in SS, will it allow you to right click and then copy and paste the track names into word or excel? Probably not but it might work?!
  8. Well, i did mean as a VERY last resort! Sorry, i should have pointed that out before! But yeah try the glue in absolute desparation only!
  9. NO, the conclusion is that ATRAC3 is the worst coding around
  10. oh dear! To remove the plastic "bulb" from your optical jack (if it is stuck), try getting a cotton bud, removing all the cotton then dip the end in super glue! Next, VERY carefully put it inside the jack and to the bottom of the plastic bulb, taking extreme care not to touch the sides of the jack itself. Wait for it to try and then gently pull! Hopefully the bulb will pop out!
  11. Well, i never use LP2, i have only ever used SP. There are noticeable differences between LP2 and SP but to as a comparison ATRAC3 at 132 sounded more pleasing than AAC at 128. But as all my music is recorded in SP (via optical input) using my JB940 that is probably why i noticed such a difference between the ipod (128kbps) and MD (292kbps). Also my ipod was 3rd gen, I hear that they have improved the audio circitry in the latest model!
  12. I have no idea what the above post means! If it's a chart showing that itunes is a better audio codec than atrac, then fair enough! But, i got my ipod with the full intent of completely converting to it and selling all my MD gear! So im unbiased! I downloaded an album (that i already have on MD), full of excitement over my new toy, pressed play and........My heart sank! It's hard to explain but the music did'nt sound "alive" it was clear and correct but lacked something?! I tried again over a week converting all my CD's etc onto the ipod but at 128kbps (which Apple describe as "High Quality") the sound was dissapointing. Using Apple Losseless is a different matter hovever, but what you but from itunes is set at 128kbps so it was no good to me!
  13. Yep! I bought an ipod off ebay, and a week later it was back on ebay!!! VERY poor battery life, Also at maximum volume it was still quiet and i found i was getting lost in the menu and not finding the song i wanted! I got several albums off of itunes (fantastic software!) but they are encoded at 128kbps AAC which DID NOT sound as good as ATRAC at 132kbps! I expected it to sound the same or better but there was a very noticable drop in clarity and detail! I have since got a Hi-MD player, only a 600, but the UK version has the optical input and AC input so that's enough for me!
  14. Yeah, i looked through ebay's "user protection" policy and IF im approved then id get back £85 MINUS £15 admin fee! I could sell it as "damaged" for a bit more as all the accessories are present and in good condition!
  15. Hi Im was'nt sure what forum to put this in, so sorry if it's the wrong one! I've just brought an MZ-NH1 on ebay for £150 at the buy it now price! (i should have guessed it wasnt right because it was so cheap). The unit was described as "only 3 week's old and in good condition". It arrived yesterday, it has a HUGE dent in the rear panel, several deep scratches on the back, and another big dent to the top right corner which actually has bowed out the metal housing!!! When trying to play a MD the motor sound's and feel's like it's stuck and "judder's" for a few second's before finding the track! Im absolutely fuming and have emailed the guy but i don't stand any chance of getting my money back! Sorry, i had to get it off my chest.
  16. I have a sinking feeling in my stomach that there wont be any car or home deck's for Hi-MD!
  17. Hi and welcome! Is it worth it? Well, only you can answer that question! If you're willing and able to spend $80 for convenience then, yes, it is worth it! Have you tried ebay?
  18. yeah, it is a very good looking unit and very solid too! Mine still work's perfectly! I think your going to have to settle with a used one from ebay! If you get one that's in good cosmetic condition, then that's a good sign that it's been well looked after and not abused or dropped.
  19. Hello! And welcome  Is there any particular reason why you specifically want an R-90? I have one and it is a great machine! The only problem with it is that it is very sllllloooooowwwww! Due to the power saving feature, when ever you want to change track's etc the machine takes an age to perform the requested task! As for finding a brand new one? I think you'll have trouble! But i'll have a look on the net and see what i can find! Where are you from?
  20. Well then give it a go! Just connect your netmd portable to your pc with the MD in that you want to title etc, open SS then go to the "Transfer" section. The MD's track's will show up as unlabeled track's so just high light the one you want to label and press "F2"!
  21. erm, you can!? Assuming you have a netMD portable! That's the only use i've found for SS so far! Adding titles and track name's to my hundred's of old recorded MiniDisc's!
  22. Thank's aeriyn! I'll have to give the Sharp unit's a go then. It's a great shame though that MD is not popular in the UK or US. I have been using it for year's and still think it is unbeatable for it's quality, flexability and price! Long live the MiniDisc!!! JAPAN......HERE I COME
  23. Ahhhhh......That explain's alot! When compared to my MZ-R90 the output of both my 600 and N10 were extremely low! On the R90 id have the AVLS on, but that was pretty loud still and was comparable to maximum volume on the 600 and N10! Bloody EU!
  24. phewww, thank's for that! What did you mean by "Euro crippled" when you refered to the N10?
