  1. Whats the attraction of the EH1?
  2. All encoders decode/uncompress the files before re-encoding them. Even transcoding in SS doesn't directly go MP3>>ATRAC. Decompressing them doesn't regain any quality that was lost originally it just has to do this in order to recompress it. So there should be no difference in going MP3>WAV>ATRAC or MP3>ATRAC as its fundamentally the exact same process. However tweaking the EQ and applying other effects in the middle is going seriously change the sound. It can only be very different from the source file.
  3. Be careful with it though as if you apply it wrong, it can ruin tracks aswell adding clipping distortion. I tried it before and didn't the results myself, mind you I don't really understand how it all works.
  4. Its not transferring its recording. Do the tracks tags appear on the MD once its been disconnected?
  5. Are you sure they haven't been converted? Whats the format column say in SS?
  6. Bit pricey for me. With del to europe its over 100 bucks. That said if it worked you could store the recordings on the PC and transfer them to MD or HiMD as required. I never get to listen to the radio mainly because theres nothing good on when I have access to a radio. But its something I'd like to do more of. If I could time shift recordings that would be excellent.
  7. This was suggested to me... http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/...shark/index.php
  8. Since I got a HiMD I haven't used my MD players. I think its very much worth it.
  9. I have a Apple Quadra bought in 1994 still running as originally bought, 12mb ram/230mb HD. Still perfect. never lost anything on that either.
  10. Didn't realise you can't get a Radio only card. If I see one I'll post back.
  11. Seems to be common use now because of Podcasts. I'm confusing it with pasuse live TV you get on Sky etc. After some searching it seems like some CDR's do have timed record. Though I haven't found any specific's on it. Since you use a PC to upload the recording. Why not just record on the PC directly?
  12. What has a timer got to do with time shifting. I'm just curious because it sounds interesting. I thought time shifting is a feature use while recording so you can listen to the start of a broadcast while the end of it is still being recorded. Can the JE780 do that? As far as I know. HiMD doesn't have a time recorder. CD recorders I don't know. I think some Hard Disk MP3 players do. I'd have to check. Some have limitations on bit rate. I'll come back to you on that.
  13. What so special about the JE780 that suits time shift listening? I would have thought any MP3, HIMD or CD unit would be as useful. Could you not use a HiMD to record, upload it to PC then transfer it back to SP on a normal MD to listen via the JE780?
  14. Dyson made 5,127 prototypes of the Dual Cyclone vacuum cleaner before he got it right.
  15. I dunno I think its good to discuss theses kinda issues. Its useful to realise that its very much subjective, but you can benefit from others experience and ideas. Even if don't agree with them.

    speakers?

I have a set of Philps which are ok for that they are. But like all small speakers they don't sound good. What do you want them for?
  17. ausraider3 - the answer is simple. Sony is a business, and theres no money in doing what you are asking.
  18. I don't care if its obsolete if I find it still useful. However as a player its simpler, easier and more efficient to use a MP3 player these days.
  19. I doubt that I'll be around to care about obolesence. I find HiMD is a great recorder. I'll hang on to it just for that. But I think it makes little sense as a player unless its priced the same a 1GB flash MP3 Player. Which is why 2nd hand units are a great deal.
  20. Didn't know you could still buy these new.
