  1. I knew you were going to write that adrian
  2. as you are new on the forums, you wouldn't have known, but dex has been banned since a serious incident here on the forums... but his posts still are very helpful in the meantime I'll try and answer this for you...but as I myself do not own an RH10, anyone is free to correct me when wrong of course nope, only the NH1 had this timestamp feature... the autotrackmark you're referring to still exists as far as I know it is changeable through the menus... but as the menu descriptions are in japanese, dex was glad ishiyoshi provided a walkthrough (right here) an adapter is a small piece that bridges between different plugstyles (Jap/N-Am in this case) but it still requires the charger to be able to take the voltage supplied by the wallsockets (and that's where the world-model is useful as it can take all voltages I believe)... just read this thread for more info the other stuff I can't answer, as I have no knowledge of how ordering through audiocubes goes... but I do know that the forums administrator (kurisu) actually ordered dex's RH10 so you could always PM him with some specific questions (and you have to realize that he is quite busy, so it may take a while till he answers) hope this helps
  3. hi, welcome to MDCF... just read this thread and this one and you will be all up to speed on the MP3 playback issue hope to see you around some more PS: cool name
  4. thanks... glad to help, even if I can't really 'help' you with your recordings...
  5. 1. indeed, no oma->mp3 with SS... but you could use marcnet's HiMDRenderer (which can be found here) this program does does allow oma->MP3 (just uncheck the autoconvert to wav function in SS and convert the oma's with HiMDRenderer) 2. nope, the oma just is the PC name for an atrac (HiLP etc.) file... SS just imports the file and then converts to wav 3. with HiMD you won't be able to record in MP3 at all, only in the HiMD formats (HiLP, HiSP) and PCM (and with a first gen HiMD also in the older MD formats, but as you have got an RH910 that is not relevant) hope this helps
  6. you're very lucky the NH900 will still work! I'm afraid it is a combination of things... - the NH900 wasn't made to charge 1400mAh batteries - you should disconnect the ac-adaptor or remove the player from the cradle as soon as it is charged - the battery perhaps was already slightly weak/damaged just read a bit on the "Battery University" as it will teach you how batteries should be treated if you want your equipment to survive hope this helps
  7. hi there, indeed HiMD and faster than realtime uploading rocks... but indeed it will create trackmarks when levels are too low... but this is actually no problem at all just upload all the tracks (do not edit on the machine as this is known to cause uploading troubles) and merge in SS later just read and follow the instructions in this thread and trackmarks are no problem anymore and uploading is safe and painless hope this helps
  8. only one problem... recording with a remote always gives very slight disturbances/digital jitter on the recording... these will not be noticable with loud shows, but for more (well, actually rather 'very') quiet recordings it could be...
  9. I guess we're talking about the N-AM versions here... beware that they do not have an LCD remote... so: - the RH910 display isn't backlit I think...so checking levels is almost impossible (you need a flashlight or something) in dark circumstances (like concerts) - the RH10 comes with an OLED display which 'glows' in the dark and allows you to keep an eye on levels in even the darkest of venues but if you buy an RM-MC40ELK remote, you can check levels on that and it works with both models (but will probably cost more than $50) hope this helps
  10. hi Purplehayes, welcome to MDCF... best thing to try is a clean install of the latest SS version (3.2)... just follow the uninstall instructions in this thread and install a 3.2 from here if stuff still isn't working... please post again (including full specs as explained in the rules)...as we all will try to keep you as a part of the MD-club... just say no to the ipuddle btw: you have xp-pro, but have you got SP2? it is necessary for SS to run properly... hope the clean install works!
  11. k, the link doesn't work... so please look up the item again...as I myself am interested in which one of their phone recorder instruments you meant
  12. I must admit that I've never tried that... I always use the addon, as I would dread to lose a recording due to low battery power and I think the addon isn't too irritating to use but if you'd like to know, just try it (set it to record and let it run till it stops, could be a great test to see if the machine saves on time as well)...and let us know the results
  13. welcome to MDCF bluegreenone, but I'm afraid you are somewhat out of luck... there isn't yet really a method known to restore them (but do not throw anything away as it might be possible in the future) even though laplace has aparently found some way of restoring them (see this post) but hasn't shared the method yet but for future use... remember to follow this procedure and to make a backup of the master in wav or FLAC or another lossless codec good luck
  14. - if you still have the discs: did you upload using SS3.2? if so, you could upload again if you still have them on disc... if not do not try to upload again as this will erase the discs but transfer them in realtime - if you do not have the discs: I'm afraid you are out of luck... there isn't yet a method known to restore them (but do not throw anything away as it might be possible in the future) even though laplace has aparently found some way of restoring them (see this post) but hasn't shared the method yet but for future use... remember to follow this procedure and to make a backup of the master in wav or FLAC or another lossless codec good luck
  15. what HiMD model are you using? with my NH900 and a 1350mAh gumstick and an alkaline AA in the addon I recorded for 7 hours (in HiSP on a 1gb disc), played songs for another 6 hours (from other 1gb discs) and still had some juice left... so unless you really need to record for 15 hours straight in HiLP or something, why wouldn't you be able to record from battery power? I won't record with the AC-adapter again if I can avoid it, as the buzz really was annoying and overwhelmingly loud...so I always carry a spare (fully charged) gumstick and a fresh AA for the addon...
  16. Sorry to hijack this review, but I just scored myself some RP-JE50's (are they the same as the RP-HEJ50's?? if not, just throw this into a thread of its own) from almost-free-bay. I paid $20, shipping included, after a partial refund as I got the wrong color (got blue instead of silver, but actually I like blue better but I thought I should complain and they offered a partial refund as damages so who am I to say no ) Keeping in mind that I do not have any experience with other canalphones or even any other high quality buds/eggo's etc (I use a Senn HD497 indoors and Senn MX350/MX450 outdoors) in SQ this is a huge step up... and I dare say, even from the big Senn HD497's (as these aren't efficiently driven from by my Euro NH900, even with the hack)! Bass is nice and deep (pretty amazing coming from such small things ) and the vocals are very much 'in your ear' (pun intended...sorry ). Compared to the Senn MX series, the highs are less crisp, but whether that is actually the 'fault' of the panas or the senns I do not know. The senns are so crisp (especially with their lack of bass augmenting the effect) that they could hurt my ears. As I read somewhere that the highs are much more damaging when listening at higher levels, my doctor prefers the panas too No really, I do like the pana's balance as the highs are less present but not muffled, so you can eq them up if needed (I don't as I like it pretty much this way)... Even more, these are the first 'phones I use without eq'ing mostly. When compared with the Senn MX series, which are not bearable without raising the bass at least 6db (and actually rather 10db) and lowering the highs 3db IMHO, these little plugs provide me with a very flexible balance which is just right as it is, but still allows me to change according to the music and my whim... not out of necessity! I specifically like the fact that it is not just a slight step up in SQ like with the stockbuds->sennMX move ($0->$15) but with even a smaller increase in price ($15->$20) I got such an enormous improvement... Build quality was something I was afraid of after reading damage's review. But after a week of almost continuous use I haven't found any production faults or damage from the transport from HK->Belgium and as I'm very careful with all my material I'm hoping they will last some time... My main fear is the attachment of the cords to the plugs. The cables go into the plastic, but without any obvious reinforcement and as they are canalphones, they are lodged quite firmly into my ears and a pull on the cord will not pop 'em out, but will produce quite some strain on the attachment...So I fear that this will be the main weakness, as I can not completely avoid an unintended pull on the cords I guess. The rubber tips also look quite flimsy... but I have got mixed feelings about this. Seemingly I have got very small earholes as even the small sized tips provide perfect seal and I can use the other sizes as earbuds so I'm afraid that more sturdy models wouldn't fit my ears at all. But now I am slightly afraid I will end up on the ER asking to remove small pieces of rubber out of my ears so gently removing them is a good idea... I have been using them with a remote and I must say that I haven't noticed the pull on the left one yet. I do clip my remote up high, so I mostly have more than ample cable left to absorb sudden jerks, so that could be the reason... The efficiency of the 'phones is remarkable. The senns (HD of course, but even the MX) need a decent volume to function at a decent level, while I have not cranked the vol over 15 with these panas, even on the train or at a busy road... But I guess this is partly because of the closed/in ear type and not limited to these panas... But it ain't all good... I specifically bought these for outdoor use, as I have got my comfy SennHD497's for home-use... but the wind (and we have a lot of it in B.) whissles in the plugs! I never had this with any headphones before, but it's just like listening to music in some decripit mansion... To be honest, this won't be that big a problem, as they simply aren't really suited for a lot of outdoor 'activity' as they are in ear/canalphones. Footsteps, heavy breathing (when biking...), etc. all are very present and can be quite irritating when listening to more quit stuff! So I'll still use the Senn MX450's for more active instances... Another 'problem' is the high SQ I had to get rid of all my LP2@132kbps discs, as the artifacts clearly became obvious! But as you all will agree... this is only a very minor negative So my roundup: Pro: - SQ and balance - seal (which improves the above, but which can differ from person to person) - efficiency Contra: - whissling in the wind (looks like it will be balaklava time ) - don't look sturdy at all (but haven't had any probs yet) - amplification of self-noise (but this would be a con for all canalphones, so not strictly for the RP-JE50's) Contra(dictory)/Ambiguous: - SQ -> no more LP2 with these babies - seal...they shut outside noise out so efficiently, that I left my gf outside for 20min as I couldn't hear the doorbell (and I was just listening to a GYBE! 20min track )
  17. nope (as stated earlier in this thread)... no optical out on either one (and as far as I know at the moment there is no HiMD-unit with optical out at all)
  18. hi here, this really is a post for the software support section so I guess the mods will move it over there.... but I'll try and help you a bit: - first, the description of the problem is a bit vague I'm afraid... please read and post according to the rules with a full description of your system specifications and of the problem... like whether the NH700 is recognized or doesn't even appear at all, is there an error, does it crash the PC,... - you could always try a clean install (like described here) of the newest version of SS, which is 3.2 (from here) so please try the clean install of 3.2 and if the problems persist, do feel free to post further questions (and a full description following the rules) in this thread (it might have been moved to software discussions/FAQ's in the meantime though...) good luck
  19. tip of the day: just ignore trackmarks! I mean, ok we do not want them, but they can not be avoided when going line in (there was a rumour about setting autotracks to 60min so it would override the silence-triggered thing, but it was bogus)... but they do not hurt anything as long as you use dex's brilliant tip for uploading over-trackmarked stuff so, as with so much of Sony stuff: learn to live with it I'm afraid this said: Sony, we're not babies... let US decide when we want marks (eventhough the pause=mark seems pretty logical to me... sorry daikentana)
  20. wouldn't you yourself be grounding the machine when holding it with your bare hands? so the buzz diminishes... bad grounding perhaps also explains why the ac-adapter causes this much hum and why certain sockets do even worse than others? just my thoughts though...
  21. do install 3.2 (as it is a big improvement over 3.1) but cleanly according to the thread mentioned above... just a couple more questions: - was SS3.2 working at any time? - have you 'tested' the CD drive with SB? - have you registered at CDDB? - is your HiMD recognized? - have you got any codec packs installed (FFDshow...)? - could you please state all specifications according to the rules? (it's not that we want you to 'follow the rules or we won't help you'... this is just so that anyone trying to help has the clearest view of the situation and problems as possible) thanks and good luck
  22. hi, welcome to MDCF... I'm not sure whether this is the reason for the problem as I don't really understand the explanation completely, but beware that SB requires a working version of SS to function besides, just check this thread for precise uninstall instructions, as it could be a problem with remaining bits furthermore... to enable ppl to help you in a better way, please read and post according to the rules (with full specifications and as complete a description as possible of the problem) feel free to post further questions and good luck
  23. SS will not allow direct transfers from CD-> MD, only from CD->HDD->MD (so ripping and later transferring and removing all tracks from the library again) while SB will allow CD->MD without anything remaining on your HDD, so if you're trying to get CD's onto MD and do not want to build a HDD music library (which is also my situation) just install SS and SB, and use only SB for all traffic from CD/PC->MD and SS just for MD->PC (of your own recordings) that really is the simplest of ways... and believe me, with HiSP it will sound good
  24. I think that for ease of use alone you should opt for the SB-method... perhaps there might be a slight quality difference between the hardware encoder in the NH900/1 and the software encoder from SB, but I doubt you would hear it (especially by the pool) and the quality will depend more on the bitrate used... I personally try never to use anything else than HiSP... and believe me, SB sounds more than good enough for me besides, when we're going to be as audiophile as saying hardware encoding is better than software, I should actually recommend SS3.2 (even though it is much more work) over SB2.0 as the former's HiSP encoder is more evolved and should (theoretically) be better than the latter but as I said, for portable use, if you already opt for HiSP (or LP2@132bps at least) I doubt that soft/hardware encoding will make a noticable difference, so go for the easiest solution (which is SB IMHO) there is absolutely no need for remarks like this as there are some ppl (like me) who still have to wait for 2 weeks before they can kick back at a pool with seaview on the Cote d'Azur
