  1. that one drew my attention right away (first one I watched) and I really love it! I have to add though that I haven't had time to view a lot of them...
  2. recording: -I'm currently working on my masters thesis and I need to do a lot of interviews for that purpose. I also record a lot of conferences, meetings, lectures, symposia etc. if they can be relevant for me or my fellow students (give them copies on CDR, and every time they are surprised of the quality, even with my rubbish Sony mono mic) -future: my thesis deadline is at the end of July, after that I hope to start recording live shows as in Belgium there are some clubs with exquisit sound and they also get a lot of great bands to play there... but I still need some good mics for that listening -I use my NH900 almost constantly when I go out the door alone, whether walking/riding public transport in Brussels or traveling by train between the different places I partly live (I actually live at four locations...only one of them, a room of 3x4m in Brussels, is mine) -now I'm writing a lot (at my parent's place) I use it mostly connected to a big stereo, playing a post-rock compilation (Explosions in the sky, GYBE!, mogwai,...) or some classical (cello sonatas from Bach) and modern classical (Arvo Part) all of which are excellent as writing background music...
  3. wow, posting right after dex sure makes life a heck lot easier I can safely say: "exactly the same as dex, except for MP3's" (I have never used MP3, as I keep my music preferably in CD-format or (since only very recently) archive it as flac on DVD-R's and CD-R(W)'s and as I do not own a 2nd gen HiMD so I really have no reason now to start using it...) I used to have a lot of CD's/CD-R's and used a panasonic PCDP for portable listening, but then I bought a NH900 for recording interviews and discovered the portable listening ease as well... ever since that moment I haven't touched my PCDP I do still use the CD/DVD media types, but only for archival/distribution, not for my "own daily consumption"
  4. I agree completely with dex's advice... and just to make it a bit easier to follow that wonderful tip, I hereby include the link to a very useful thread by dex that explains the safest and easiest way of uploading without problems and to back-up masters greetings, Volta
  5. Indeed a very happy birthday d. Hope there are many years of great posts (and other, much more fun stuff ) to come...
  6. Born and raised in Dutch speaking Hasselt, the province capital (that means that there are over 10k pple living in my town ) of Limburg (Belgium) Belgium is globally mostly known for its chocolat, beer (Duvel= the best), rain and dullness... and well, they're right my family partly comes from the Netherlands and France (mother's side) and French speaking Belgium (father's side) I left my parent's home @ 17 to study and live in Ghent (opposite side of Belgium so about 100km away ) and after six years over there moved to Brussels (the only "city" in Belgium...) where I have now lived for three years and I love it... nice and cosmopolitan and actually the powercentre of Europe (which means that real estate is much overpriced as all thos Euro-bureaucrats come over here with their big wallets ) in the next year I'll be moving in with my girlfriend in Antwerp, which isn't as "big" as Brussels, but as a harbour city with lots of history and a tradition of creativity it still is nice and multicultural
  7. what you read doesn't conflict with what KJ and I said at all... it will work for any appropriate Sony device: i.e. all NH800's and perhapse even other tuner-MD's which have the same remote port... but it won't work with any non-tuner-MD/HiMD as the remote simply won't fit! from this very complete remote overview and it still holds true for the RM-MC39LT as Syrius told me right here sorry, but I do think the other board was misinformed (BTW, through a goolge search I could only find a T-Board post stating that the HiMD version of this remote is almost exactly the same as the 37LT NetMD tuner one, except for the HiMD pictogram...so that would confirm the incompatibility with other players for the RM-MC39LT) hope this cleared things up, Volta
  8. @ soleil: as KJ-Palmer already stated: fm-remotes only work for the models they were intended for (so the NH800 remote only works for the NH800) Volta
  9. make sure you start SS before you connect the MD... if that doesn't help, you could always try the solution suggested in this post as it has had the best results with unrecognized MD's... (of course you could always read the rest of the thread for other suggestions if it doesn't work) hope this helps, Volta
  10. welcome to the forums Imtiaz, if you only changed the region settings, all you need to do is to revert them back to the original setting (if you still remember it)...but I would really think it isn't the hack that caused this, as absolutely noone has mentioned this before and a lot of ppl have tried the hack... so more importantly, is it an MP3 that was being transferred before but it won't anymore or is it just a new MP3 that won't tranfer... if it is the second option, just try another one, as some MP3 types (especially low-bitrate and VBR's) are known to give problems... no need to blame the hack right away hope this helps, Volta
  11. you could always try the solution suggested in this post as it has had the best results with unrecognized MD's... but you could always read the rest of the thread for other suggestions if it doesn't work hope this helps, Volta
  12. all you need to know (including dimensions and commentary by the beloved MDCF-members) is in this MDCF-thread (I found the thread through a A9.com search) and as A440 already said, I do not think it is very useful unless you like to have a very thin player-only model (but perhaps you are looking for just that ) greetings, Volta
  13. welcome to MDCF mini lu, it could help to upgrade your SS to version 3.1 just do a clean uninstall as described here and then choose your preferred 3.1 from here... just choose the country and whether you want the connect e-store or not... hope this helps, Volta PS: please post software issues in the intended Software Support/FAQ's-section next time, as more ppl will find it there and will try to help you (it could well be that the mods move this thread over there)
  14. that sounds very strange indeed, as it acts exactly oppositely of how it should...perhaps the USB-cord was unplugged before the MD could be removed safely or something and it still thinks it is plugged in...? have you tried removing all power sources from the MD? Just unplug the ac-adapter or take it out of the charging stand and remove the battery, wait a couple of secs (or better a minute) and power it up again (put the battery back in). That could reset it... but I'm absolutely not sure whether it will work, but then again...it definitely won't do any harm either... hope it helps, Volta
  15. sorry, the only digital way possible with (non-HiMD formatted) older MDiscs is to get a MD-deck with an optical out and record in realtime on PC (if you have an optical in) or HiMD... no usb transfer of older recordings/discs possible at all (not even with a himd-player) just read these two threads (1 and 2) and you're up to date on uploading hope this clears things up, Volta
  16. strange, I use firefox and I can right-click the song-title and select 'save as'... works like a charm! does take some time to d/l though... but great collection and an even better tip, thanks k. for another addictive timewaster while I really should be writing Volta PS: MZ-NH1, I just saw you wrote: "the move comes up using QuickTime, I right mouse click, and Save Target is blanked out"... have you tried right clicking the song-title in the list? (and not the QT-player itself)
  17. first of all, as KJ-Palmer already pointed out, it is not certain that your HiMD has a limited volume... normally, this is only on European models (as it is required by our laws)... but if you want to know for sure, just enter service mode and follow the sequence till you get to the item number 0113, but do not change anything yet, just look at the region code that is displayed... if it is not "24", you can improve some thing by hacking I guess... is it dangerous? yes, in theory it is, cause if you change the wrong settings, you could turn your machine quite useless BUT as long as you do not press 'pause' while in the service mode, normally you should always be able to cancel the operation by removing all power sources (ac-adapter and all batteries)... so if you do something wrong, just do not press pause! have a good look at the sequence in the link I provided before... enter service mode just to have a look (remember don't press pause while you're in there) and see if you can get to 0113 and check the region code...then just remove all power to stop... if your region is not "24" and you have done all the previous steps without much dificulty (and without saving anything by pushing pause while in service mode) you should decide if you feel confident enough to do the hack... as long as you follow the procedure exactly as described in the linked thread, there is little that can go wrong... I have hacked my NH900 and I didn't even know at the time there was such a thing as service mode and I know there are many like me... just remember: if something doesn't look right: DON'T press pause, but remove all power sources and it should be fine Hope this helps, Volta
  18. welcome to MDCF shig420, nice to see someone all excited about Hi-MD...it is a fine format indeed but just a slight reminder... you do realize that you won't be able to use the USB-uploading method for your old recordings? all pre-HiMD recordings and also SP/LP2/LP4 recordings on MD-formatted discs made with the HiMD-recorder are still only uploadable in realtime through the line out/headphone out (analoguely) or optical out (digitally) if you have got a deck which has one... but no USB-uploading see this stickied post and this one for a more detailed explanation greetings, Volta
  19. Indeed Andicillo, WinNMD could be useful for the things you describe and I do not want to argue with you at all... but there are other options: - say you have still got your recordings on HiMDisc, but not on a PC anymore... just plug in the USB and use TotalRecorder to make a realtime digital copy of them... ok, you still have got to title them and add trackmarks, but it is a digital copy and not an analogue one (and with HiMD lister you can even get the title info from the disc I believe)... (but I would really advise to always keep back ups on something else than MD, which brings me to my second point) - even more important to point out (again ) use the wav converter (or Marcnet's alternative) as this actually could eliminate the entire "oops I just lost all my own recordings as SS won't let me upload them twice"-issue... if you make a habit of uploading the safe way as described here (and don't let the title fool you, it is also very useful if you do not care about gaps ), and do not edit on the machine prior to uploading and save all your recordings as (un-DRM'ed!) wav's which you then back up (as FLAC or another non-lossy codec to save space) you will never need a second upload again. as wav isnt DRM'ed, you can edit, rename, copy, devide/combine, whatever you want with them including reimporting in SS -> MD or, after burning to CD, SB -> MD and you are free to copy them to CD's and other PC's as much as you like, just keep one unedited copy of the wav (as FLAC or whatever but no DRM'ed stuff like atrac and no lossy type like MP3) as a master in a safe place (i.e. not on a HD that could crash and definitely not as music files on MD as that is not a safe way to store anything at all due to Sony's copy-fearing-limitations) I have been converting to wav and backing up a master right after uploading since my very first recording and I have never - not even after I bought a new portable and didn't back up my SS library - wished I could upload something again (though I do think that the limitation itself is silly and actually outright wrong from Sony) so my point: if you learn to live with the limitations and work with the options...HiMD is great (and WinNMD actually isn't necessary anymore as zerodB and Dex already mentioned) greetings, Volta
  20. and an internal system that turns 'em over when one side's done Volta
  21. you have got to love these web-translations though... is about the best description I've seen of it
  22. open SS-> tools-> options ->transfer ->select your NetMD -> transfer settings -> set specific rate SP or you could just press the setting button underneath the red transfer arrows when you have your NetMD connected but remember, as Rombusters already pointed out, this fake SP from SS will produce discs that will play in your car, but it is not the real, very good sounding SP that you would get when you record discs in realtime straight from a source (preferably a CD-player with digital/optical out -> optical in on MD) happy listening, Volta
  23. this is a wellknown problem with mics that directly plug into the recorder... just look for a male-female 3.5mm minijack (same as the plug on the mic) cable... they can be found in any decent electronics/audio shop I guess greetings, Volta
  24. Might be a good idea to move this post to the "essential Hi-MD faq's" or at least make a "sticky" out of it... there are still a number of ppl looking for the 2nd gen hack Volta
  25. all you need is right here enjoy the loud listening experience...but please don't damage your ears greetings, Volta
