Edit: Welcome back. However, one thread is enough. Topic merged with the other. ::edit:: it wasnt on purpose

ive heard a lot about problems with hitting the stop button. i guess ive been lucky so far, cause ive had no problems with my unit yet. and the beeping, i turned that off the day i got it.
-
john, i dont really have a problem with my recordings, it was the settings i was fooling around with. i really like my player

hey, in advance i wanna say thanks to all the experts here. your help has been tremendous. anywho, i wanna ask about rec settings for my nh900 during a live concert(ill be recording at Hi-SP). ok, with a lot of help from you guys, i wanted to play with the settings that were recommended to me. im using the sound professionals SP-BMC-2 mics. im also using a radio shack volume attentuator, the volume on max. i keep the mic sens on high, and manually set the rec level at 10/30. now i wanted to give this a test, so i put in a live dvd concert and cranked the volume on my speakers pretty high. i mean, to the point that my ears kinda hurt. now i know this still wont be as loud as the actual concert, but im still a little worried. the recording quailty came out good. there was no distortion or noise in the background. the only problem i had was that the actual sound on the recording was low. now im thinking i wanna set the rec level to at least 15/30 for the live concert. but obviously i dont want to overload the hi-md player(i wont be able to check the rec level during the show). so here are my questions, would it be better to play it safe and keep the level at 10/30, or am i really taking that big a risk by moving the level up to 15/30? are there audio editing programs good at enhancing sound? can i boost audio on a recording w/o losing quailty? thanks for all the help. im sorry for these noob questions. i know its impossible to really tell me the perfect settings and stuff. thats why ill take any and all suggestions or insights.

so if i record it as one big track. how do i make the track marks on the disc? this is just a guess, if i were to listen to it, during the playback, if i hit the track mark button, would it make a new track? or is it more complicated than that.
-
thanks. the mics i got are from the sound professionals, SP-BMC-2. i think im gonna be hitting the track marks during the show, i just think itll be easier in the end, if i have them already marked. cause i asked in a different thread about uploading tracks into SS one at a time. im guessing it may be a safer way to transfer, but its just a thought.
-
in your experiances, when uploading into SS, would you recommend uploading tracks one at a time, or all at once? thanks
-
thanks a440 for the suggetions on those mics. i guess theyre nothing special, but i was just playing around and was recording audio from my tv, and i was blown away by the clarity of the recording. i also got the volume adjuster like you suggested. now if i leave the mic sens on high, manually set the level at 10/30, and leave the volume adjuster at or around max. what are the chances of my recording overloading? cause i really dont think ill be able to really see the screen on my recorder during the show; to check on the rec level.

Found A Nice Buy On Sony Nh-14wm Battery
hanz0 replied to craftech's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
i wish i saw this before buying one for 30 dollars!!!! -
thanks dex and rombusters. i think i will go with the hi-sp. ill play with a little til then. thanks again
-
thanks for doing all those tests. im sure ill be fine. btw, these recordings will be extremely important to me ::edit:: in reply to rombusters, im thinking to do it in Hi-SP, cause by doing it in PCM i would have to change discs during the show. i know by recording in hi-sp it will save me a lot of time and troubles, but is the quailty loss worth it?

in this thread link , it says to hold down the group key.

if i use the wav conversion tool, and convert a recording to .wav. would that eliminate the risk of losing files during upload. do i have to upload files to use this tool? cause its my belief that im just converting files from my Hi-MD to .wav, and saving those files onto my harddrive. i wouldnt actually be uploading the files from my hi-md to my comp. im a wrong?
-
nevermind, i read the guide to uploading hi-md thread. what real risk am i at by uploading straight to sonic stage?
-
im gonna be recording a 2 hour concert in PCM. what is the best way to upload these files? i was planning on using the wav conversion tool. what is the safest way to do this, without losing any tracks?
-
what do you guys mean by "formatted" disc? if i put a blank disc in the player, is it not formatted?
-
my hi-md player doesnt have a light in the display, so im thinking it will be pretty hard to set the rec level in the dark. is there a pre-setting you would recommend that i do before hand. A440 suggested to put it at 10/30. thanks
-
if im not breathing heavily, will it still come thru over the loud music? i would think by clipping the mics to my shirt, i can get better sound then from my pants. or will it be the same?
-
how long do you get with PCM on a 1GB disc?
-
this is a little off-topic, but would you guys recommend hitting the track mark button when recording a concert. this is what i intend to do after songs are finished. would it be better to make the tracks marks after the whole recording?
-
thanks for your response. the show will be very important to me. i want it to sound as good as possible. but, like you said, it will be difficult to change discs during the show. i think im gonna play around with it a little, and make a decision when the time comes.
-
so is this the best way to record a live performance? i mean, im guessing this is the best quailty. whats the best thing to do when you know the concert will be a little over 2 hours? should i leave it on best quailty and change discs after about an hour and a half, or should i lower the quailty so i can fit the whole show on one disc? do you really tell a difference if you lower the quailty a hair?
-
thanks for the suggestions
-
thanks. i was wondering what they were, cause all it looked like was something to fold the cord.

im gonna be recording a show. it its gonna have to be incognito. i know i will be close to the stage. are the security people on the look out for people wearing mics? im thinking theyre mostly there to keep the crowd in control. my plan is to clip the mics to my lapels, when the lights get low. but considering the fact that i may be close to security, my question is, is this the best place to put my mics? if a security guard were to look at me, they would easily be able to see that i have to mics clipped to my shirt. any suggestions will be muchly appreciated. thanks
