  1. A Geforce 6800. Only €140,- with shipping. Probably the last videocard upgrade in my beloved dual Xeon workstation... (it's AGP and fast cards don't come in AGP flavors anymore).
  2. There's not gonna be a new DAP-standard with removable media. No one wants that (or everyone would have MD/CD players).
  3. Sharp Auvi, 2x10mW (at least), drag and drop FLAC support, self-indexing tag database = heaven on earth.
  4. That's a 'dirty' workaround. The limitation shouldn't be in SS.
  5. It's a whole other codec, just made by MS and has a the wma extension. Probably less than 1% of the market uses MD's recording functionality. Does that make it superfluous? DVD was once 0% of the market. Look where aggresive marketing brought it. If Sony couples a whole new codec with it's product, they best can use the best available, now can't they? It's even the most compatible one (of course I'm talking of OGG Vorbis here). Just like Joe did when you asked him of DVD 10 years ago. What kind of bullsh*t is that? AAC is an audio standard created by the MPEG group and the only thing Apple has done is make it standard on it's hardware. Please... Go rant somewhere else with your imbicile factual knowledge. That probably why every and any digital audio player supports MP3. Hey, that same Joe probably doesn't know about digital audio players and has only heard of MP3 players. With Joe, music on computers equal MP3. abso-bloody-lutely.
  6. Too bad indeed. A nice Sharp (with Auvi) would do HiMD much good
  7. The point isn't that there pretty much no audible difference, the point is that there's _no difference_. As in mathematical difference.
  8. Does is sound better than good ol SP?
  9. It seems it has a secundary track for backwards compatibility, though bitperfectness hasn't been verified yet.
  10. ROMBUSTERS, perhaps you could perform a bitcomparison? That way be would be absolutely sure it's bitperfect.
  11. Seems Sony has kinda listened to me That Atrac Lossless had to be converted for 1st and 2nd gen units is in itself understandable. I think it could mean some future Sony device will play back Atrac Lossless. If that's an HiMD playa, it's all mine
  12. "Lamedrop" is I think the most easy way to convert to .mp3. With speech it's safe to go as low as 64kbit and probably mono too to convert. Use google to find Lamedrop.
  13. More proof that security through obscurity works!
  14. Sony's ways sure are incompreshesible. What did they do to decrease size from 1GB discs? Or did they sort of invent the wheel again and scaled the old discs up? Still, it's nice to see Sony's coming up with multiple uses for the format. Not sure why they would use a presumably incompatible discs...
  15. For certainty I'll make mention of it again that I'd like support for Dutch
  16. I've noticed that an increase to 48kbit is about the sweetspot of quality and quantity for audiobooks. With MP3 mono, one can fit twice as much as with Atrac 3+ 48kbit though. BUt the point was to find out if mono was supported and thank God it is By the way, that website I was going to buy a device says teh RH910 does not come with a remote (I asked via mail). Their website mentions no AA cartrigde either... How 'bout that...
  17. That's why I'll probably be getting to silver one, IF someone can upload that MP3
  18. I've found a website in .de which sells the RH910 for €185, and the RH10 for €219. I don't think I'll be paying €34 for an OLED though... But I must know if it supports mono MP3 (I'm planning on backing up audiobooks, and with mono some very long books would fit nicely). So if with a 2nd gen unit could test the .mp3 I uploaded 2 posts up: thank you very much!
