A440: wireless mic i meant ;-), now that i got a pair of smaller mics it would be worth the collar method for starters, if i were handy enough i would make a pair like greenmachines glasses with small mics/shrinking tube. About the clicks it must be something with Sonicstage cause now i dont hear them, really strange.
  2. greenmachine: If i could find a pair of "fakeglasses" for a good price i recently got a pair of SP BMC-2 amazingly small which could be easily mounted, otherwise i have thought of attaching mics under the collar and see if that helps. I dont know where the clicks come from, i moved between the songs and then i could hear some rustle, i recorded strings and the levels were low, could it be the handsfree mic that was on during the whole show that made the disturbance ?

I tried greenmachines advice earlier on, i moved a bit closer and even though the levels were low and i could have gone up a bit higher it worked, could boost them afterwards with wavegain with no loss in the sound (much richer). Heard like clicks (from vinylrecords) in the sound, i think it was when i moved, churchseats are hard and not always comfortable so you move a lot. Usually attach my mics to a t-shirt and then put another shirt over but for classical it dont seem like a wise choice, any hints for me on that ?.

A440: RS Auris to battery box to line-in, i saw in other songs that peaks were just under 0, but i missed that "direct sound" greenmachine were talking about in the other thread i sat on 8th row still close to the stage though. I were in a church today trying to sit a bit closer to the stage, i will listen how it came out later if it got any better or if cards would be a better choice.
  5. Thanks A440 and greenmachine, i own a RS Delta mic, but have just used it once,maybe should try it out some more in those enviroments and find out whats suits me best.
  6. greenmachine: it is, handclapping and shouting under the concert. If it hadnt been there i could have go to 29/30 instead but havent checked all songs yet.
  7. I was wondering, any advantage of using cardioids instead of omnis in a church or a big place where the sound tends to bounce/echo ?. Doesnt feel easy when it comes to places indoor and roomacoustic, it may sound good but it feels that the mics are picking up more of the echo than the ears.
  8. A question, if you visit an acuostic gig where you know drum/bass is out of the picture should is it wise to use some headroom for handclapping and screaming in the audience ?. I can see when i playback in Soundforge mostly "audience-noice" hit those high peaks (clipping). Can it be harmful to recording ?. Got around -6 when using 28/30.
  9. Pockets is very handy, had a pair of shorts this summer which i used a lot, but when using ordinary pants the pockets seem so small, any hints on what pants to look for ?.
  10. I know there no "magic setting" but pratice makes perfect as they say. What settings do you other forum members use ? would be nice to hear. Also wonder if 18/30 (unity gain) is ideal when recording from prerecorded sources.
  11. greenmachine: done quite a lot of experimenting, my conclusion is with 26 sound lack of presence (a lot under 0) and 29-30 is too loud (levels over 0), so only 27-28 is left, any hints how to test these two and see which is best ?. Also another question. 18/30 is unity gain, which means that there is no amplification, i imagine its ideal when transferring old cassette tapes and vinyl records. Good idea ?.
  12. greenmachine: thanks, as stated in the other thread bass and drums are the biggest threats when recording, it isnt easy setting a recording but from own experiance if its amplified around 25-26 (-6DB) is quite safe. I do a lot of testrecordings to get ready for the real stuff, that a good way to learn your equipment. Would like more experiances with levels, which settings do you use ?.
  13. How are the durability on Hi-MDs ?. If you find a cheap outgoing model like the NH600 (line-in) is it a bad idea to buy many of them ?, i have bought 3 for the price of what the NH700 costed me new. I use MD a lot, and i thought some spare HI-MD units would be real handy since new ones are real expensive and if you just going to use the line-in then its fine. What do you think ?, feel happy with 3, more than enough, but i am thinking of buying one more but 5 would be too much.
  14. Have red somewhere that microphone-cables can add unwanted sound to a recording if they are hanging loose and stroke against body or clothing, true?. If so any good tips for preventing this, maybe some kind of strap. I also want tips on where to put the MD/Batterybox so its feels comfortable. Never tried cleaning the jack/contacts before recording maybe i should try it too ?, any experiances ?.
  15. 2) microphones 6" apart, no baffle sounds most natural i think. I did a similiar recording today and it came out awesome, ears seem good too but it lack something of that "3D being-there-sound". BTW what is no baffle ?
  16. Youre biggest dilemma when recording opera i think will be the dynamics + also the length of each act, you have to leave a lot of headroom when using mic-in or you will risk distorsion. Line-in with a batterybox is easier to use but since opera has both loud and soft parts maybe thats out of the question since some parts might not be heard at all. When it comes to length, 1 GB discs can record 1.34 uncompressed wav and 7.55 Hi-SP. Ordinary 80 MD "Hi-MDformatted" will give you 2.20 in Hi-SP. So no need for using Hi-MD discs, you can format an ordinary disc. Finally, buy the minidisc which you feels the best for you if you like AA:s then go for it. On the other hand strongly advise against Sony mics since they do not have full frequency response. With the ECM-719 you will lack bass and highs, and that "cut out" parts of the dynamics which is very important in opera. Good luck and please tell us your experiances.
  17. SonicStage should work on Windows98SE, mine does and i also own a MZ-NH700, but it works bad and crashes a lot (all versions i have tried). I really tried everything but i cant get the program to work properly :-(.

  19. I dont have USB 2.0 should i go for that ?, i looked some at www.usbman.com, but the fixes didnt help it still crashes, USB and soundcard has same IRQ but i disabled it but still same prob.
  20. kurisu: so i did, but no change, its always "OMGJBOX caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL" or some other dll, got any clue to that?.
  21. I am wondering what is the correct peak to aim at when recording, both on ordinary MD:s and Hi-MD:s, isnt is 0 ?. Where can i find out about the dots both on ordinary MD:s and Hi-MD:s ?. Can i see the VU-meters after recording so i can see the levels came out ? (dont now on my NH700)
  22. Recently re-installed my Windows98SE and removed Nimo codec pack to install Sonicstage (2.1 came with the NH700) so i used that in order to upgrade to 2.3. It starts and i use Total Recorder to record but Omgjukebox crashes as usual:-( It works for a while and then a small window appear and all stops both if i play/transfer. I have updated with SP and Framenetwork but still the same error, i have some securitypatches left to install but i doubt they will help me out, any clues or tips how to make it work ?
  23. Greenmachine:OK, wrong of me, omnidirectional is a better description :-). I do own a stereomic too, but i dont got any powersource for it though, well see when the Boostbox arrives. It will work as a batterybox too. Then i will look into buying a good mic, since it cant be bought over here, most of them lack full frequency range.

And as seen its driven by a small batterysource with a SR44 inside which supplies 1,5 V to the mic. Can it be a voltage issue we get diffrent levels using line in ?. Will buy a more serious mic later from Soundproffesionals since i cant get them here unfortunatly. I have ordered a Boostbox from Reactive to start with
  25. Greenmachine: Thanks for the info, i recorded line-in using 30/30 couldnt had done more, & as said it was more of a testrecording. I transferred them analog so that might explain more noise on it, i do have a Hi-MD unit though but i guess i cant use old discs to upload ? Havent tested Adobes products but it might be better than Soundforge. Denoiser works but makes the sound a bit hissy, cymbals get another sound. A binaural mic takes up sound from around much like the human ear BTW: After the show there were fireworks, they got up to 4 bars :-).
