  1. A few full discharge-charge cycles (let it play until it shuts off automatically) should do the trick, if the situation doesn't improve, it's time for a new battery.
  2. Added a short introduction to the battery module instructions per request. Hope it's clearer now. Enjoy.
  3. It should work without any problems, if the circuit is designed properly, there should be no harmful voltage entering the recorder's input. The closer you place the mic(s) to the recorder, the more likely you'll hear motor noises in your recording. Simple as that. Practice and learn and you'll soon become a pro.
  4. If you're using rechargeables and don't care much about maintenance, there's a good chance they suffer from the 'memory effect'. This makes them to a large part unusable, even when seemingly fully charged. Try to recover them with a few full discharge-charge cycles. If the situation doesn't improve, it's time for new ones. The battery university has lots of valuable information about battery maintenance for future reference.
  5. There are two major enemies when recording: On one side clipping, which occurs suddenly if your peaks exceed the 0dB mark. On the other side of the usable dynamic range there's noise. It doesn't occur suddenly, but the lower you set the average recording level, the more noise you'll have after normalizing. The engineer's ideal has always been to have peaks as close as possible to the 0dB mark, but not over. It's usually better to leave some headroom than to get clipping, the dynamic range of 16 bit recording formats like (Hi-)MD is large enough not to have your recording ruined by noise even if you set your levels somewhat too low. I usually try to get average peaks between -12 and -6dB for live recordings, just in case that anything unexpected happens. The more dynamical the source, the more difficult it'll be to set levels properly. The best thing to do is to practice and to get to know the sensitivity of your mics to be able to predict an approximate setting for each location. If you record from other media like tape or vinyl, it should be easy to find peaks and set the levels accordingly before you start the recording. A minimum of headroom is adequate there.
  6. Thanks, i'll do. I'm currently having troubles to discern between 'urban' and 'ambient'. What about ambient recordings in urban environments? Can someone explain what what to put where, please?
  7. It's only available through SonicStage. Realtime recording only in 64kbps Hi-LP, 256kbps Hi-SP or 1411kbps PCM. If you need to fit more than 8 hours on one disc, use Hi-LP, otherwise opt for better quality Hi-SP.
  8. Gallery-related question: Should / can i move the various content of my live recording albums to its proper subcategories? Seems to be possible with images, but not with live recordings.
  9. It's usually exactly the removal of track marks that ruins it.
  10. Welcome blu, I don't know Wim Wenders good enough to love him, but i adore his way of storytelling. I've seen Paris, Texas & The Million Dollar Hotel and loved both.
  11. Nothing wrong with it for speech and such propably, just not suited for serious listening (for me at least). It's the same old quality vs. quantity discussion. By the way, my comment was not meant to be taken too seriously.
  12. Believe it or not, there is no all-round best level setting for recording from different sources, you need to set it everytime anew. If you use 27 or 28 is of very low importance for the resulting sound quality - as you can see in the scale, there's only approx. 0.6 dB difference - really negligible. It's usually better to leave some headroom, the theoretically possible dynamic range is hardly ever fully exploited anyway - in the worst case you'll get a slightly worse S/N.
  13. The Ice Storm (1997) & Out Of The Blue (1980), two of my all-time favorites, finally found them on DVD.
  14. If the buyer is willing to pay the shipping costs, why not?
  15. What do you call 'huge'? I couldn't find any numbers on your site.
  16. The Quicktime player doesn't work seamlessly for me either, there are occasionally annoying small gaps in between or like in your case only partial playback. This seems to be a problem of the Quicktime player though, the download generally works fast and reliably.
  17. I'd love to use it, but do you allow direct linking? I thought it was meant for 'internal' purposes only.
  18. I'm looking for a reliable host for some (mostly music) files. Direct linking has to be allowed, space needed maybe 20+ MB, traffic maybe 1+ GB / month. The less expensive the better. Any recommendations? It's a jungle out there and i'm easily confused, so please help me to pre-select.
  19. Let it grow, in a year or two you'll have the perfect stealth setup.
  20. You should place an unobtrusive donation button somewhere.
  21. Looks like the gallery will be live next year - or so. Gallery 1 was better than none. Besides, the 'code' button in the reply window is not displayed.
  22. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...528entry43528 or follow the 'uncapped thanks to mdcf' link in 'the low volta's signature. Proceed at your own risk, you could cause serious damage if you mess with other settings.
