Thank you, i need to get used to that effect, it looks like bad interpolation on my screen, sharpness is gone. Ads, which ads? I've never seen any here. I'd also like to take the opportunity to thank the man behind the scenes for all his efforts.

Automatic REC. Level vs. Manual REC Level - RH10
greenmachine replied to optimistic-pessimist's topic in Minidisc
If the AGC is idle, about 19-21/30. The AGC automatically lowers the level though if the input voltage exceeds a certain value (threshold). -
The live recording archive seems to be too well hidden in the gallery (and not really image related). I think it would be great to have direct access from the main page. Would it be difficult to add a button next to the 'gallery' button?
-
I don't think there's a direct correlation between the outer shell and the quality of the inner parts. Although the NH700 is an all plastic model (and it feels pretty solid for that), its recording quality astounds me everytime anew. Even my desire for an external preamp has perished. I think they're using more or less the same high precision components for every model.

The new 'charger' can deliver twice the amount of current (1A/500mA) propably for a good reason. I wouldn't use the old, weaker 'charger' for the new unit. Vice versa it should work though if they use the same polarity. Get an adaptor.

If you're talking about sound quality, you can listen to some samples in the live recording archive and judge for yourself. For anything other than that, please try to specify your questions.

The 'Microphone University' is a good starting point to learn about pickup patterns, stereo techniques and more before making a decision.

I've once visited a local optician and got 2 perfectly fitting screws (for a Sharp MD) free of charge. Could be worth a try.

There are propably as many (contradictious) opinions about microphones and their placement as there are users. A one-point stereo mic can be incredibly comfortable but won't necessarily give you the most realistic stereo image. Just imagine how you would perceive the world if your ears were that close together.
-
Lol, but you seem to also have used proprietary parts to generate sound. Did you ask the manufacturers for permission?

In my view, music is a language of the soul, not a product. It has been and should always be free. We're far from the perfect world i guess.

my first steps as a stealth recordist
greenmachine replied to The Low Volta's topic in Live Recording
Finishing a disc takes about 13-30 sec, depending mainly on how much data there's left in the buffer to write, what kind of disc you use and the position of the write head - you don't really have an influence on it. Changing the disc, set to rec-pause, set manual levels, unpause takes about 10 sec if you're fast. I would try to change discs during a break if i had to. -

And remember kids: Never connect two batteries like that or you'll have built a bomb indeed. The second 'battery' in the picture is only used as a container for some electronics and connectors. -

Welcome to the club ... finally. I can imagine you with your equipment in your socks. I might be slightly biased, but i think it sounds pretty realistic - not necessarily very good if the PA sucked, but realistic. -
Or you could wrap some tape around the capsules until they fit in tightly. I still think you won't get happy with 1.25" distance though.
-
Does it have (a) built-in (stereo) microphone(s)?
-
If you can live with its rather narrow fixed distance of the microphone elements and the maximum input sound level, propably. But don't expect to record anything quieter than amplified live music without a microphone preamplifier.
-
I can't - but i can tell you that you won't be able to upload your recordings through USB with a NetMD - only HiMD can do that. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070
-
Combining before upload tends to cause problems. Enabling auto track marks doesn't prevent the recorder from setting marks after quiet passages. Combine tracks in 'your library' after upload.

An 6.3 to 3.5 mm adaptor, like that: But you'll propably get a signal only in the left channel unless you use a special mono to stereo adaptor. You need to reduce the guitar's output volume if you plan to record through the microphone input to avoid distortion.

Query: How to move music from MDS-JE630 to PC?
greenmachine replied to prout35's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
You'll get plenty of distortion and propably a mono signal if you try to record through a microphone input. You need a soundcard with either a line input for an analog copy or preferrably an optical input and a toslink cable for a digital copy since you're in the lucky position to have a MD deck with optical out. -
Above a certain bitrate virtually all psychoacoustic codecs can reach (very close to) total transparency, although the for low power consumption optimized Atrac usually seems to need some extra bits.
-
Sounds like your recordings have been done in LP2 or LP4. Watch out for MDLP capable units. MDLP has been available since 2001 or so. You can use the equipment browser to get an overview.
-
But they would be re-encoded, and you would loose sound quality, wouldn't you?

My theory: Charging a 1000mAh battery in 2.5 hours (according to the manual) = about 560 mA charging current = a significant amount. Charging at high current for an extended time plus bad ventilation = lots of heat. Lots of heat = not good for battery and recorder. If there was better ventilation = no problem.
