Well in any case i wouldn't try it. Loading a linux image from a CD takes its time (~4min), in which the unit is spinning at maximum speed and u can hear the reader head travelling from one side to another of the cd. So, it moves a lot. I think it could be something bad for a MD unit...

That same page translated by babelfish. U'll have to use some imagination, though.

Well i didn't see what are the car player capabilities, but i have the hunch that it's an old one, hence it doesn't support LP playback (neither LP2 or LP4). So you should try to record them in SP. Btw, I'd rather use Sonicstage v4.2 (released on december) instead of that old OpenMG Jukebox. Audio encoding quality has been increased during all this time. And it's less hassle with all the anti-copy annoyances

Que traduzco: **Translated: I think people around here understood you quite well, but I translated it anyway. What you got suggested is to try go into that service mode again and leave the original values (maybe u can find them on that guide u used?). They also ask you wether those are mic-recorded songs, or transferred from computer ones. Anyway, if I were you, after paying that price, just for toying with the volume lock, there's NO WAY I would even bother. Not for that price.

Erm, i think even those are allowed with the RH1...I think it doesn't have any restriction at all Anyway, i'll check it when i get back home
-
Ok, this is a complete nonsense...I think he says something about entering service mode (risky, huh?), but i'll ask him in spanish... Sevillano, jubila ese traductor, que nos está matando Cuéntame a mi qué te pasa y yo lo traduzco...

I mean about that damn nuisance on sorting the songs just by artist. Yeah, i know, you can sort them by album, importing date, blah blah...But it doesn't attach them in the same folder, even if the album's name is the same! (for example, an OST, or a "golden hits of... Jeremy and his trumpet, er...whoever) "Same album name, same importing date/time, but geez, different artist...So i'll put the songs in 28 different folders so he'll have more fun joining them back onto an unique folder..."

Well, I think even if you put it to charge the whole night it won't do too much after the first hour or so...

Free Data Recovery Service for Sony Hi-MD 1GB
timonoj replied to carinou2005's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
I think so. But that's why I guess you have to specify what did you lost. I mean, since the "song index" (i think in sony it's named TOC, tells the MD where to read each song) is changed --and overwritten-- but not just removed, it's harder to find the stuff. I guess it has something to do in finding the way of mounting a puzzle "this chunk of data looks like atrac3 music or like a jpeg image?". Now some thoughts: But I also guess that advanced tools can figure that out in an acceptable way, although there will be always some data loss. Anyway, I think that if Sony released their TOC specifications, those would be a quite easy task that anybody could do, since there are a bunch of coders around there willing to find out the way to make it work (i saw a linux driver workprogress, if they manage to do it, we'll be really close to achieve it). -
Thank you guys

Ok, shall I leave the unit charging during the night, plugged to the AC-charger? It's just an AC-to-USB adapter...Is it okay?
-
Yeah, right, but since I wasn't new at the MD thing (it's my third one --first on non-AA battery), and I was at work, I decided to do it on my own...Didn't have too much time to read, just wanted it to be charged to start using it after finished the shift
-
Hi, i've just received my brand new RH1. but since I'm at work (i received the package here), i decided to charge it while my shift ends. But it stopped the charge after 30min! Did the battery come already charged? If I unplug it from the usb then plug it back it shows "charging" for a minute or so, then it stops again. Is there any problem, guys?

But mp3 is a lossy codec whatever the bitrate. I would suggest APE wich is true lossless. I think apple's AAC is quite more compatible. If your apple lossless codec is AAC-based, i would stick to it, since it's a good codec and quite supported by quite a lot of programs (quite more than atrac, at least). Another open codec might be OGG...(again, i don't know wether it is lossless -since i wouldn't notice, i didn't bother in studying them that much)

Hi, I have an old MZ-N510 unit, wich works just as good as the first day. It's badly smashed, and it doesn't look too nice. But it just works perfect (yet). But, since i'm waiting for my brand new RH1 to arrive, I'd like to move all these tracks (wich i have in the computer) from those old MD to a couple of HiMD disks. Is there any way to get the playlist, so I can copy them in the same order? I don't need the files, since they're either in LP2 or LP4, wich I'd like to change... Thank you very much!

Hi, i've searching for a while now, and it seems I can't find it...I'm looking for the batteries post on ebay. Discussing all the concerns about them, and loads of people saying they was ok...I'd like to find it out, since I just bought an RH1, and while I wait, I'd like to have it with an spare battery. I'd like to see some of the offers on ebay...But i don't know what's the battery model to look for! My last one was running on AA batteries, so I don't have any idea on gumstick batteries... :? Well, thanks a lot for your help!

Well, I agree that the SD technology isn't quite new...But i think it's a perfect size, though. I don't like XD cards for being too damn small. Although they're fast. But they're harder to handle. If you think about removable media, at least.

Thank you so much, that's all I wanted to know!

Thanks, richyhu So there's nothing special in the european version? I mean, apart from the power plug...

Hi...Me again. I were sending some emails to some shop dealers in Madrid, and one guy didn't know pretty well what i was talking about, but he made a query on his database, and this came up (in an excel file): CATEGORIA CODSAP PVENTA+IVA HI-MD Walkman MZDH10PS.4EU8 412,10€ HI-MD Walkman MZRH10S.3EU8 247,30€ HI-MD Walkman MZRH1B.EU8 280,09€ HI-MD Walkman MZRH710B.3CE7 164,95€ HI-MD Walkman MZRH710S.3CE7 164,95€ HI-MD Walkman MZRH910B.3EU8 206,13€ HI-MD Walkman MZRH910S.3EU8 206,13€ It also showed description (very badly),but i chopped it. I was scared of that codes because it might not be the exact version, so I'm asking if anyone knows what 4EU8, 3EU8 and 3CE7 means... The character just after the model name is the color; S for silver and B for black... Thanks!
-
Well...But are those 8GB replaceable? I mean...what do you do when you fill them full?
-
Yes, i'd love to...But i already were scammed once. And wouldn't like to put you in the dangerous position, either...But how can it be done without any risk for any of us? (i mean, risk for either getting the money and run, or getting the package and run...)

I think you won't have any problem pluggin your optical cable, but i'm not certain about that. About the computer speed: I managed to install SS v1.5 on an old Pentium 166MMX overclocked at 210MMX, with 256MB ram. Since I had Win98 non-SE, the installer didn't allow me to start the installation. But i went running myself the setup files on every folder on the CD (that came with the MD) and worked for me. So I can tell you, it works. Sloooooow as the hell, but it works. I mean, converting a song is SLOW. Even slower if it previously had to decode the song from mp3 or something like that. Transferring the song was ok in speed, almost the same as now (but draining full resources from my poor computer). So there you go...Good luck...and loads of patience

Well, this is a whole bunch of guessings (somebody that knows, please correct me!) Well i guess we'll have to wait until the new BD-RW is released. That will be magneto-optical, and that would be applyable to the loved MD way After all, the only thing that changes is the kind of laser beam, isn't it? As far as I know, i think the magneto-optical system works in this manner: The laser beam heats a very precisse part of the disk, a pit (after, it can be read as a single bit), so it can be modified magnetically, then the magnetic head generates its magnetic field, that applyes to a long range of the disk (it is not precisse), but since only ONE pit has been touched by the laser beam, only that one will be affected by the magnetic field. I think that's the way magneto-optic system works. I think, if they can release a multi-layered magneto-optic disk (that would be, the BD-RW), it would be a matter of time to get that very same format in a smaller disk protected by a fashion case

You were right, I think that's a very good proof! I sent a mail to studica, but i don't think they'll send to europe :_( At least now I know there's another way of labelling it, with better equipment! Tomorrow I'll do some research for shops with it Again, thank you! Btw, atrac3, grazie I took note and i'm following that article as well, just in case
