  1. Thanks, informative indeed. I´ll try out the MP3Gain program. What about audio editors (Audacity?), do they do normalising?
  2. Man... I so wish you could upload this... too bad.
  3. Hi. For a long time now I´ve been wondering what 'normalising' the volume of an audio file actually means and how people go about doing it. My impression is that it means adjusting the volume level of a track to match that of other tracks/files. So if I have say an MP3 with noticeably lower volume I could "pump it up" a bit so that I wouldn´t constantly have to adjust the volume slider on my PC. Is this correct? And if so, what program should I use to do this. Thanks.
  4. I might be able to get my hands on an Sony MZ-R55 recorder. I was just curious what these are worth these days? What should I offer to pay?
  5. Syrious that is excelent news, that was just the way I was thinking the app should work. I probably won´t use SonicStage as my primary music player (Winamp still works best for me) and having to manage two music collections on the same PC (orginal files and the ATRAC ones) just seems like a terrible hassle.
  6. So the .oma-files are full-sized copies of the original audio-files, as opposed to being "shortcuts" to the actual MP3´s? That means that I will have to use double the space of my current music-collection when using SonicStage, right? That is if I need to keep the original audio files (which I have to in this case, my brother has a Zen Micro HDD player).
  7. How does SonicStage really work when handling music on my PC? Currently I have all my music in one folder on one of my HDD´s and this is fine for me (as opposed to using MusicMatch as an overall library, something I stopped doing a few years ago). Does SonicStage act as a 'front-end' for the music stored on the computer or do you need to submit to SS´s will? That is; does SS require a specific and forced folder for storing music, does it convert music on your hard-drive to it´s own format in order to be able to play muisc through the app? What about when transfering music as ATRAC to your HiMD-player, using an MP3 as source material. Does SonicStage temporarily convert the track into ATRAC and then delets the temp.-file automatically, leaving you with only the original MP3, or does it get rid of the original file? Are the converted ATRAC files left on your PC along with the original file (in this case the MP3)? Thanks. I would really like to know more about how SonicStage treats users before relying on the software.
  8. Here´s a snip from the HiMD uploading guide by Kurisu, Dex and A440: Here it sounds like SonicStage in itself can upload tracks directly into the WAVE format. I was under the impression that you needed to use WAV converter for this? Or is WAV converter like a plug-in for SS? Also, HiMD renderer seems like a more versatile app than Sony´s own WAV converter. What benefits does HiMD renderer have over WAV converter and can I use it to completely replace WAV converter? Thanks.
  9. Thanks, I should start running around town in elecric equipment stores and ask around. Hopefully they´ll have some. Those pictures will come in handy. These devices should be found in normal electronic equipment stores, right?
  10. In that case, would I only need a plug-adapter (what kind of add-on/device is this?) to use with the power converter Ishiyoshi mentioned?
  11. Thanks you Ishiyoshi, a very clear answer indeed.
  12. My friend is currently in Japan and if all goes well he´ll bring back an RH10 for me. Now I´m wondering... Japanese wall sockets give a voltage of 110V´s, right? And Japanese electronics (like MD units) come with power coverters to convert the voltage into a more suitable one (like 6V or something like that)? Now if I buy a a Japanese RH10 will I be OK when buying a power converter that converts the 220V of electricity I get from my wall sockets (here in Finland) into the correct input voltage of the RH10 (whatever that may be)? Thanks.
  13. Yes, got that,but.... I was thinking of using and amplifier as an interface boosting the volume between the RH10 and my ZS-M35. Eliminating the need to always adjust the volume on the boombox or the RH10. See? Overkill? Probably, but I´m the king of conveniance. We´ll see about this. It´s kind of a daydream at the moment.
  14. Right, well I´m talking about having an aditional amplifier pumping up the volume to an appropriate level before going through the boombox.
  15. No I haven´t tried this yet, but I´m just now listening to my E60 portable (volume turned nearly to full) through my (not all that good) PC speaker set-up and it sounds OK to me. Yep, regular miniplug line-in. Well this is one thing I figure might be useful. If I could just connect the RH10 to an amp and use the amplifier to adjust the volume to a proper level - instead of always having to adjust the volume on the MD player back and forth (headphone use/use in room with near-full volume). I guess it all depends on if I can get an amp cheaply enough.
  16. Here´s a pretty quick question for the more technically knowledgeable... The lack of a true line-out connection on Sony´s top-of-the-line RH10 recorder has been widely critisized, though some claim that setting the volume high enough on the unit produces a signal close to a signal a real line out would give. Now I´m wondering if a could use an external amp between the RH10 I was thinking of buying and my current ZS-M35 boombox (esentially the thing I would useto get the sound out somewhere) to kind use as a kind of replacement for a true line out connection. I really want to be able to enjoy HiMD in my room as well, and I´m wondering what kind of results this kind of setup would give? Thanks.
  17. I´ll probably use the stand for charging the player in my room and just build a new stand myself for use with my PC. Seems like an overall better idea.
  18. What about modding the stand in order to be able to connect the USB cable? Is the stand just standard hard plastic or what?
  19. Thank you Ishiyoshi, hopefully my friend will be stopping by in Osaka.
  20. So the japanese version does not have this issue?
  21. Or just "wider support for audio codecs used by computer users".
  22. A friend of mine might be going to Japan soon... I know a number of e-tailers carry the RH10 for about 27000 yen, these among them; http://www.1to1plaza.co.jp/ (L)(D)' target='_blank'>http://eshop-daito.com/eshopdo/refer/refer...H10(S)((L)(D). If anyone of you guys knows Japanese, could you tell me the addresses for the mentioned stores or do you happen to know of a good place to get the RH10 in Japan for about 27000 yen? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
  23. That´s good to hear. I´m ofcourse just asuming that the MP3 playback problem would be the same on these two units, but it´s still encouraging whenever someone tells me that the sound is OK. I´m sure I´ll be able to live with lacking MP3 playback just fine, but I guess I won´t know for sure before I get my RH10.
