Hi Mark - yes they're getting a bit worried about us Londoners on T-board too, bless 'em. I just told them you're OK too. I'd just like to say thanks for everyone's support and kind words during these dark times.

What a horrible, sad day this is for London, when it should have been one for rejoicing. Eerie atmosphere here - never heard it so quiet, we're all in shock I think. They did say such an attack was inevitable, but we never thought it would really happen. Don't feel much like working or doing anything at all, just feel sick at heart. We'll probably never feel truly safe again here. That's the price of democracy I suppose. Cheers

I second the JB980 recommendation. Fabulous deck for the reasons mentioned - a great full featured recorder and playback unit when connected to decent hi-fi separates... A Hi-MD equivalent deck would surely be a killer for the format...
-
Sounds dodgy to me - I'd take it straight back to Argos - they have a good returns policy I think, judging by the length of that queue in my local branch...

Some commercial disks have CD text already added to each track on the disc, in the same way they'd already be present if you'd made your own copy and added the text yourself before burning. These can obviously be read in by software without an internet connection. I think these sort of discs normally have a CD Text label printed somewhere on the cover....

Presumably if you're still on version 1 (1.5?) of SonicStage you're not using Hi-MD at present. I'm using SonicStage 3.1 under Winows XP / Celeron 1.5 and it seems fine and stable, but if you dont need the Hi-MD features (uploading, PCM, Hi-SP etc, formats) and your current software works and does what you want, there's (probably) no need to upgrade...

I think the RH10/RH910 charges the battery when attached to a PC via a USB cable, though I'm not sure how efficient (or true) this is... I haven't heard much good said of the iPod phones, especially with regards to bass. The general consensus seems to be - ditch the stock phones and buy/use your own pair... I've done so with my RH10 (replaced them with Sennheiser MX550's - which admittedly aren't very bassy at all...). Some people have said that the RH10 headphones are relatively good, though, and I expect the RH910 headphones would be similar or the same... But, in the end, it's probably best to replace them, if you can...
-
Yes, all variants of the RH910 come with an external battery case... The 'charger' is what used to be known as the ' mains adapter', ie. the black box that plugs into the wall to supply external power to your MD unit. It charges the internal battery as well, but not, I believe at the same time as using it..

Aha... I searched on Sony NW-HD5 volume and came up trumps... Anyway - hope it works! -
Removing The Eu Sound Capping On The New Nw-hd5h

As usual a quick search on Google will answer it, but anyway, here's what I found: http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184051 (I don't own an NW-HD5 though, so I can't say whether it works or not)... -
Very impressive Chris, in fact I totally loved it, not familiar with the original cartoon strip though. Without giving too much away (if you haven't seen it) all the lead parts were brilliantly played, of course the script majored heavily on weirdness, though it was all strangely believable and involving... Anyway it (ie. Sin City) beat Batman for me... near faultless I'd say - not one for the faint of heart though...

Yes, the Hi-MD units are less power-efficient than the older NetMD units, though the second generation of Hi-MD does improve on the first...
-
In fact, with Sony MDs you never had to have any internal battery in place to use the external AA pack. For example my MZ-R30 can run with only the AA pack attached. Conversely, Sharp units (which I've owned) which can take an external pack all seem to require the gumstick to be inserted though, for some reason...
-
I've swapped all my big Hi-MD cases for 'traditional' MD-sized ones - about 30 of them so far. Otherwise they wouldn't fit in my MD rack - and I don't like 'em anyways - they're a waste of space...

Sounds like it might be worth your while picking up a C03, while you still can... and not a bad price too, my SCMS stripper cost around £120 a couple of years back - wouldn't be without it now... Anyway have fun deciding...
-
Hmm, looks like I got lucky when I got my stripper a couple of years ago, then... . It's been really invaluable to me as most of my equipment is separates audio components... Sound Professionals only recently were still selling the 'classic' Midiman C03, but that seems to have gone too, like all the others... oh well, there's always analogue copying, and computer rips are usually SCMS free, I believe... I expect SCMS strippers pop up on eBay every so often, perhaps under the euphemistic guise of digital signal processors or something, so, it may be worth your while checking there occasionally...
-
^ Yes. I'd buy a form fitting moulded skin for my RH10, at a reasonable price. The PDA plastic is looking decidedly tatty, now, already, so I'll obviously have to keep replacing it (until I can't be bothered anymore...). Or I'd be interested if anyone can come up with a better solution...
-
^I've never heard about your last comment about the SCMS strippers compromising sound quality - Can anyone confirm this...? I dont see why they would compromise sound quality as they just take a digital input, reset the SCMS bit in the data and output the SCMS-free digital signal. I hope its not true anyway, as I have been using an SCMS stripper as a matter of course for all my digital recordings for quite a while now....
-
I'd say that sadly, yes the RH10 face plate is far too easily scratched. Perhaps its just that the reflectivity of the surfaces just shows up scratches that any surface would normally pick up. I'm not so worried now that I've got some plastic PDA covers to protect it - and that's fine, but for the first day or two I didn't have these - and just putting it in its case gave it a few of these horrid little slivers on the body - the actual OLED display itself seems OK though... Actually I have to confess though - rather anally I always cover LCD screens (including remotes) with this sort of sticky transparent plastic to ward off scratches - better that than the infamous toothpaste method... I must admit I was somewhat wary of buying the unit after Dex's warning, but it is beautiful - and apart from this, and one or two other (well-documented) minor niggles it's actually a fantastic unit... I possibly would have gone for the RH910, if the volume hack was confirmed, but I got a discount in the shop that brought the RH10 to within £20 of the price of the 910, so thought... why not...
-
Oh, I misundertstood - well the RH10 and 910 would be able to play those MDs back... Maybe best to get the RH10 - problem is that the face plate is very easily scratched - so you need to put your own plastic film over it... I do have both the NH900 and RH10 - its close, but I marginally prefer the NH900 operationally, but the RH10 wins visually with its lovely OLED display, and it does have superior battery life... Oh and the RH10 also comes complete with Sonicstage 3.0 which has uploading functions built in... Also the RH10 has no 'line out' mode, which makes it tricky for analogue outputs...
-
You should get the NH900 in that case, as the RH10 and RH910 can't record directly (via either analogue or digital inputs) to any format that your Sharp will be able to play (SP or perhaps MDLP modes)... Though you will be able to record these older formats via the Sonicstage software... You will need to upgrade to Sonicstage 3.1 (see in the Downloads section) to upload to your PC with relative ease, as the NH900 is only supplied with Sonicstage 2.0... As the NH900 is offically phased out, they're not as easily available as they used to be, though there seem to be some delicious bargains on this unit, so another reason to buy one...
-
You can make as many digital recordings as you like from an analogue MD recording. It's only recordings made via a digital input that SCMS prevents from copying again - ie. second generation digital recordings... So your personal recordings can be backed up digitally, but those backups couldn't be (well, without an SCMS stripper etc...) - but that won't matter as long as you have the original recording, and equipment to play it back on... You can't make a digital recording with your G750-JE480 setup because neither of those units has an optical output..
-
er... I should be...working...
-
Well, not everyone, obviously . It's a fairly well known fact on the MD internet forums (fora?), though, but Sony don't exactly go out of their way to publish this fact, so actually probably most users aren't aware of it...
