  1. argh! okay well for all my experiences I have avoided most of the SS hassle over the years, until now. i had to do a re-format due to a failing hard drive and backed up my files (36 GBs in about 800 Albums) using the methods listed here on teh forums, to a tee. have them on my Lacie USB drive. I re-installed all my software and re-upped s.s. 3.4 (from my MZ-RH1)and I am able to rip and encode new material and transfer to my rh1 & nh600d...however - I can not re-uplaod the database from the USB drive using the Backup Library option. It tries to authenticate it online and tells me it fails verification and closes. So I re-imported the folders one at a time (only about 20 to test) and they all play fine. the titling is still there. no issues. until i tried to transfer them. I get an an error saying "Unable to transfer tracks" is there anyone out there witha quick suggestion? I know this has come up millions of times, and have searched the forums and tried other ways of doing things. no luck. thanks in advance
  2. DAM DUDE that is freakin crazy. I don't even own a car or have a license (I know, almost 30 and never drove!), but this makes me want to go out and get both! LOL
  3. Well it worked. I did not do an uninstall, just an "update" and now my transfer speeds are blazing fast (well fast for Hi-MD anyways) and yea, I am a happy-pappy now ;-) I was just worried (knowing how SS has been in the past) that I would lose my 2 months of ripping/encoding of 600-700 CDs.... But yes, for anyone else with the same problem as me, just insert your MZ-RH1 SS 3.4 CDROM and install and everything will work fine. I didn't have to re-import my library or search for it. It automaticly came up and all my settings were also there. Me=happy. Thanks guys
  4. So then...When I uninstall this 3.4 and put on the RH1's 3.4, will it search for my old database with all the artwork, etc? Or do I have to re-import every "album" again seperatley?
  5. Well is there a way to "upgrade" or "update" SS 3.4 to the 3.4 that came with the RH1 WITHOUT having to uninstall the old 3.4? I have well over 40 GBs in my library and nowhere to back it up to at the moment.
  6. Is the infamous ATRC3+ plugin for Sound Forge that creates the *.aa3 files the exact same (quality wise) as the codec for SS? Thanks in advance... I am planning on doing all my converting in Sound Forge as a batch conversion (this way I can apply EQ, Limiting, etc..) all in one go. would those *aa3 files also be transferrable to any comp using the RH1?
  7. Can this be done easily? Is there a tutorial for this I missed somewhere? cis I really don't wanna go thru the hassle of backing up the library, then uninstalling 3.4 (when it works just fine) then re-installing of the CDROM that came with my RH1... sorry if I appear to be clueless on this one... I have noticed that my speeds are fairly slow, when I have read here that it should be quite a bit faster now....
  8. Hmmm so what you are telling me is that I would need to change the properties for each additional track? That is really time consuming and that is why I delete the whole album (in WAV) then re-import from the Optimized folder. A lot of CDs I have have well over 15+ trax, and If I was to change the properties and location of each track seperatley...well you get the point. Unless there is a way to globally delete all the wav files in that specific album at ONE time (not individually) then I will stand by my method. anyone else?
  9. yea sorry about the confusion. I maybve didn't describe it clearly enough. Once I have converted the WAV file(s) I delete them but then re-import from the Optimized Folder. Is there another way of doing this that I am missing? Do I not need to re-import from the Optimized folder? is there a way that when I delete the WAV files, it only delets those files, and not the ATRAC ones from the Library? Could this be what is causing the problem? It would be so much easier if the ATRAC files I make end up staying in the folder that had the oirginal WAVS
  10. all my drivers & software are fully updated. well SS is at 3.4. I am actually VERY scared to remove 3.4 as I don't want to lose my 600+ CD Library stored in 192. This crashing is VERY consistant as well. I can pretty much predict when it will go down. It is 98% of the time after I have imported 3 CDs. After they have been imported as WAV, converted to 192. Deleting of the wav files. Re-importing the OMA files from the Optimized Folder and then moving those files into its own folder. It will usually give up on me with error messages once I have the "Move File" directory tree open. It will usually flicker like mad and strange characters will appear where the check marks should be. Also the program gets REAL SLOW sometimes, like It will take 5 minutes to scroll from the top fo the page of My Albums to the bottom...very very odd indeed.. Very rarely I do get another error message from Windows saying "Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a serious error" Or it might say "Recovered from a serious error"....... Can anyone else chime in?
  11. so i guess there is no fix for my problem......
  12. has anyone started working on this "possibility" yet? I figure if there is a plugin to play ATRAC files in Winamp there should be one for foobar... am I dreaming? or.....
  13. I hear absolutley NO distrotion in either 192 or 256 (and all my library is in 192 about 500 CDs thus far) and I also notice no lack of high end (treble) on the 192k's... And this is from listening in my pro recording studio as well... i think it could be because of the drive used. I don't think the CD ripper in SS is very good/accurate....I always use EAC then import the WAVs....
  14. no difference at all. I am pretty much a pro at setting up computers and have neevr had this problem happen before, nor have I seen this occur, at least around this forum.... It is really quite annoying though. I am "living with it" at the moment, but when I decide I want to up like 20 CDs thru SS, i find myself having to re-start the program very often.
  15. that makes me happy with joy...it still is sleek and silver so it will match my new and old components. mabe i'll make some wood side-panneling for it and make it look retro? hahaha
  16. I guess it must be my bad memory. I could have sworn I heard about a japanese SHARP Hi-MD mini-bookshelf system...maybe it was an ONKYO...my bad.... I also take it the ONKYO untis are made specificly for for the bookshelf systems as the dimesions are about half that of a regular deck, correct?
  17. .... if the answer to my problem is posted elsewhere on the site, it would be great. should I just go to 4.0 then? I never had this problem with 3.4 on a previous XP installation on the same computer....
  18. WOWZERS I had NO IDEA there was a Hi-MD Deck made by ONKYO. I just assumed that since SONY wasn't making home decks that none were in existence. *drools* Holy crap! Still can't believe this.... I thought SHARP only had the additional license and thats why they made those boomboxes with Hi-MD compatibility.. does anyone know how the sound is of one these ONKYO units? digi outs? does it play all formats of the ATRAC3+ codec? (i.e. 192, 256, 352) curious....
  19. Here is an odd one I have yet to see mentioned/addressed on this site. I have been a user of SS since 2.0 and am currently using 3.4 since its release on my XP SP2 machine. Now, since I got my RH-1 I have been creating a MASSIVE library of all my CDs/Downloads at ATRAC3+ 192, and so far have about 500 CDs converted. However, I have noticed a few things: I have moved my "Optimized" folder into the same directory as the "Fringe" folder (for thumbnails of cover art) and all my "Albums" and when I import the WAV files (I rip my CDs using EAC - much better than the ripper in SS which produces faulty rips 90% of the time) I then "Get CD Info" and re-name the trax as neccesarry. I then convert the WAVs to 192k but then I have to delete the files I just imported (unless I am missing something??) and then re-import the ATRAC files located in the "Optimized" folder. Once imported I then have to "Move File" to the actual folder/directory for that specific album. Now here is the problem: About every 5 albums during the Import or Move function S.S. will start acting REAL SLOW and the screen shwoing the diretcories will flicker and then I get an error saying "OMG has encountered an error and needs to shut down". This has happened for every 5 CD's roughly and I have upped 500 already. Can you feel my pain? Am I missing something? Is this a fault in the software? Am I importing the files wrong? It is very strange behaviour. I know SS is no iTunes, but still..you think a "database/library" program would act much better than this....
  20. Really? I haven't experienced ANY of these problems with my RH-1, NH600D in S.S. 3.4 ... strange
  21. The White one and the blue one with the guy on the cover are the same see-thru blue discs, just alternate packaging.
  22. So i guess there still is no solution to this problem? I too have noticed this, even with old old verisons of SS (2.0) I really would appreciate Sony looking at this issue as it is misleading when they say the software and hardware are "gapless" the gapless feature is useless if the track marks are out of alignment. After having converted 1/3rd of my CD collection in SS to ATRAC3+ @ 192 kbps i have to combine the offending trax and them split them again. kinda annoying. Sony, Please read this. Please know I am a buyer/owner of the amzing RH1 and fully support MD and have since its inception, despite all the DRM and BS that that brought with it. You guys (SONY) are soooo close. Don't make us wait 6 months or ayear for a simple software fix. This really needs to be solved as this affects EVERYONE who uses SS... Is anyone up for a petition?
  23. well from what I see at the sony store and even london drugs both mono mics would cost me about 90 bux (and be actual binaural) whereas the stereo ones i saw at the sony store would be about $120. All prices in Canadian. Also would be using the RH-1. I am an engineering (music) specialist so I can always adjust the levels in the digital realm at a later date.
  24. Is this even possible? I need to get a decent stereo recording of a live show for a band I work with. I am currently on a very low budget and the show is tomorrow night. Couldn't I just buy two of these and an adapter that goes into the line in? The adapter would have to be a dual 1/8th inch stereo ins as the mics are mono out... Is this possible? A quick answer would be great so then I can buy these tonight IF it will work. It certainly is a lot cheaper and it would/should turn out to be a stereo binaural recording...
  25. congrats.... it really is quite the machine. and the sound is impeccable. ENJOY!
