  1. I can second Sparda, the RH1 is fantastic. This is my first Hi-MD unit. Hope to test it out for real next weekend, so should have some recordings for y'all.
  2. Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, for casual listening while commuting, but then also when reviewing band rehearsal sessions. I saw some Sennheiser fold up headphones, they look quite nice, but not sure if they have closed versions. We use Shure equipment in the studio, so I am guessing their headphones are top notch also.
  3. Hello there, I have a MZNHF-800 and an MZ-RH1, the first model being 1st gen I believe - could be wrong. I find the MZ-RH1 just wins through the brilliance of sounds you can hear on it. I suppose this is because of the digital amp on the RH1, which the 800 doesn't have. I can only comment on these two.
  4. I can second <jonnymacs> post. Good service from them.
  5. Forgive me as I am novice when it comes to earphones. I am willing to spend around £100 ($180) on some. I think in ear canal for isolation might be my best bet, but after trying my friends, I didn't like the way you can hear your footsteps or other noises. Are there any that do reduce outside noise, without the side effects I described? Thanks

    New RH1

I have had one for a month now, and used it constantly. Personally, I don't have any problem with the unit at present. I can see that these niggles can annoy users. But personally, I haven't regretted purchasing it, as it suits my playing and recording needs. The track info missing on the main unit was annoying on the first day, but I got used to the remote and I'm ok with it now. I concede, it can be annoying when using the line out option, as you can't use the remote at the same time. Duh!! At the moment, I have only knocked the stop button while in my pocket, forgetting to use the hold button! Not experienced the annoying eject button yet. Nothing perfect and neither is the RH1 I guess, but I find it close enough to the mark.
  7. Hello Richyu, glad to know the X-B8 has timer function, thats a definite tick in the box for that model. Would you say this is the best Hi-Md deck available, for features and quality? Shame we can't get these in the UK. lol.
  8. I am in the UK too. It's unbelievable how Sony operate these days. I run a business myself, by no means as big as Sony. But selling in dribs and drabs has never worked in my book. So it is a shame Sony has not stepped up its manufacture / distrubution of the RH1 to accomodate for Europe. Maybe on one hand they are scared to make a gamble and make more of these units. If so, the more they make, the cheaper they can retail them for. Well in theory anyway.
  9. Now you got me wanting a beer! lol. Been looking for this kind of thing for a while, many thanks for sharing this with us. I looked at the link, and it even takes NiMh batteries, which is good. Would be ideal if recording over two of hours of PCM with this gadget connected. I think I will get one though, so thanks for the heads up! I owe you a beer. Lol
  10. I am biased, but I have been very impressed with my RH1. Its great for musicians, any type of recording. And as pointed out before, they are very durable. I thought about getting the Edirol, but the main thing against it I thought was having to use the installed microphone, whereas on the RH1 I can use various types and qualities. Recording features / sound quality are superb.
  11. Hello there, I can only vouch for my experience with this my machine, in that I have made hours of recordings, and transferred dozens of legacy recordings, and my own recordings too. All without a hitch so far. Touch wood! I have had mine for two weeks, and have been using it regularly I guess, two to four hours per day. If it doesn't go like a dream, then maybe there is a fault somewhere on that particular machine. I will be putting it through it's paces at gigs and for recording compostitions etc. Will let ya know if I have any problems.
  12. This seller is trustworthy, prompt and very helpful. I was delighted with the minidisc case I purchased from him. 10 / 10
  13. Hello Chris, Just managed to get the last one available from Sony Leicester. I can say it is a brilliant unit and I am glad I decided to get one. On sound alone, it is superb, and likewise as a downloader. Still got to test it out the recording with some songs I have wrote, but I expect it is just as great. If you have some old mds you want to condense, need to record or just want a sublime sound, I'd definitely plump for it. For the non MD user or casual music listener, it might be lost on them. It's ideal for me at the moment, I did my research and nothing really compares, at least for all the features I wanted. I was only a casual MD user before, so I wasn't terribly biased towards the format. Found there's a lot of pluses for this unit. At the minute, I am missing not seeing the track or artist name on the side of the main unit. It is not available to display there, only remote. But am getting used to the remote, which surprised me because it is backlit. So I think I will get used to this, and is probably more suited for when I'm recording band rehearsals etc. Uploading legacy MD's works well. So far I am uploading old SP tracks, which takes a little longer compared to downloading, but maybe that is because its SP. Can't think of any thing really bad to say about it after two solid days of use. Yeah, definitely recommended.
  14. Finally got it! Must say it has exceeded expectations so far. Usually I have high expectations of things, and they are never usually realised. I think another reason Sony Leicester may be more expensive is because the rent of retail outlets and other costs are the highest in the country, even compared to Leicester. I can testify to that as I run a shop in Leicester. I think I made a good purchase today.... Everyone on this thread speaks a lot of sense. I have always enjoyed the superb sound quality on MD decks and players, and some of my friends own ipods and the like, but still use MD, with the same comment in mind. Plus it is great for recording.
  15. Hello there, Just phoned my Sony Centre here in Leicester. Reserved the last one at £249. Wonder why the price difference?
  16. Hello Jaylen, Yeah, they just don't seem to be in Europe so much, don't know why. Got one of these myself, comes in handy when I'm away on holiday e.t.c. especially as I have one of those Mini DV camera / camcorder gadgets. Personally, I am awaiting a MZ-RH1, though they seem to be in America at different places. I am in the United Kingdom by the way. Should arrive this side of Christmas me hopes!!
  17. For those in the UK, a word from Sony on availability:-
  18. Anybody know how things stand in the UK with the RH1? I contacted Sony a couple of times, and they moved the date twice. Cheers
  19. Most of the time I use 256 Hi-Sp for most albums and compilations. I have been experimenting with 132 bit rate for older stuff. Like 60's songs, soul classics, stuff that doesn't have much bass and not much going on in the high end. It sounds like a good trade off on playback. Anybody else have an opinion?
  20. Hello there, I just received a brand new MZ-NHF800. Overall I am very impressed with the player. The thing is that when I first tried the radio, it was working ok. Then the batteries got low, then it went off as I was saving a station. I didn't try it again until last night. I turned the radio on, and the display said 'Radio On', then the volume meter went down, and it turned off. When i keep tring, it says vol 0 on the display, and it just goes off. The rest of the player is ok, and the volume is ok. It briefly displays the preset I was trying to save, so I am guessing it is locking up for some reason. Wondered if anybody at all can offer any advice? Is there a way to reset the remote, or wherever the stations are saved. Otherwise, this player is very good, and a worthy spare for the MZ-RH1 - when it arrives! Thanks in advance.
  21. Thanks for your quick reply! I will no doubt get one now! Cheers
  22. Hello there, Maybe a stupid question, but I have a MZ-NHF800 and will be getting a RH1. Will the MCMD-R1 work on both these models by any chance? Thanks in advance, Russ
  23. Hello there, I appreciate any help from anybody here. Recently purchased MZ-NHF800, my second unit after a Sharp MD-MT80. Lol. I am very pleased with this unit, it is has really cracking features. I needed to get a unit as I am one of many people waiting for the MZ-RH1 in the UK. Just two questions:- 1. I have made a start making some discs from cds. Would I benefit from rerecording them on the MZ-RH1 when it arrives. Is there a difference in recording quality using Sonicstage and Simple Burner between these two models? 2. What sound options can I look forward to on the MZ-RH1? The MZ-NHF800 has equlaizer settings, with two custom settings, and surround sound settings. It would have been nice to be able to select equalizer and surround at once, but it only lets you have one sound option set at a time. I know there is a Digital Amp on the RH1. Thanks for your time!
  24. I also saw a model that looked nice. MZ-RH710 model, but it says silver edition, is that like a special edition? Most of this model are black. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=014 I ordered a MZ-RH1, but would like a spare hi-md for travel. I particularly like what looks like a nice jog dial on this model, does any later model have a similar working jog dial? Anyways, might be of interest to someone.
