sony_man
I was wondering how the size of the driver of headphones can affect the overall sound?
sony_man
come on guys help me out here, this is my third question. if your headphones are bigger, will it take more power to drive them? and what happens if your player doesnt produce enough sound in a full sized headphone? Bananatree
Not always. As far as I know, it is based on the sensitivity of the driver. Ex: The Sony MDR-ex71's and the SHURE e5c's have similarly sized drivers, but the e5c's (As far as I know) are harder to drive as the sensitivity is much lower. sony_man
but how headphones more like eggos and mdr 600's?
Bananatree
# of ohms should be a better logic for how much power is needed.
sony_man
so will this also affect my battery life?
aeriyn
E5cs have much higher sensitivity than EX71s and thus are MUCH more efficient despite their 110 ohms impedance. Higher impedance does not always mean higher efficiency. I believe that a low-impedance headphone has high current draw and low voltage requirements while a high-impedance one is the other way around. I think. Not sure though. aeriyn
Look for a used set of Beyerdynamic DT770-80 PRO (the 80 ohms version, which is the DJ version). I know your sound preferences and the Darth Beyers would surely fit the bill. =P
sony_man
wow they are nice! accept all i can find are deutch and german websites on them. but what do you think of the Mdr-600's????????????
Kaotic
forget mdr-600!! don't get those. even with your budget. forget about Beyers DT770 (new or used) as well. try sony mdr-v6 or mdr-7506 (NOT MDR-V600) or Sennheiser (hd280), they are more likely within your budget. sony_man
and they are nice headphones, how much do they go for? and i read that they are hard to drive?
Kaotic
CDN$100.00 is roughly about USD$81.00. as I said before, at that budget. forget about Beyers DT770 totally! that headphone is way over your budget.
sony_man
i am spending canadian money *hint hint* ...... people seem to also like the d66 eggos around here?
atrain
eggos are comfortable, have good sound on a portable, drive well through low power units like minidiscs & are fairly robust. anyone who hates on them is probably buying very expensive headphones & is a real quality-head. i think you'd be verry happy with them although they aren't the bassiest around

(search Head-Fi for details.)
sony_man
i couldnt find it at head-fi (i tried to first look for a search engine), but is the cotton mod switching the pads on the cups?? :edit2: i found a cheap etailer for mdr700's or the 500's!!!!they look good, does anyone have any experiences with them?
