campekenobi
Is it just me or are these long-box type cases for the hi-MD blanks ANNOYING?? Just like the packaging for pre-recorded MDs, which come in almost an analog cassette-sized shell. Kind of defeats the purpose of this "compact" medium, if you ask me. deafplayer
if it is in fact the case that HI-MD cases are significantly larger than old MD cases, im surprised i haven't heard it complained about here before that would be very annoying indeed... A440
Look at any picture of Hi-MD, like this one: http://www.pocketfad.com/md/Sony/news/himd...imd_blank_s.jpg That wide case is the case. That's right, Sony kept the MD small and then put it in an extra-large box. Another genius move.
Christopher
Cases for regular MD discs work for Hi-MD discs as there is NO size difference between the two. So, it's just a novelty. Bigger capacity, bigger container, bigger..well, you get the idea.
xispe
ahaaha! good one!
campekenobi
@kurisu - I'm sure you're right & that's the thought behind it... also to set them apart more... "special"... whatever, I'll just throw the long box away & will order some jewel cases.
tartan
a bad novelty, After getting three 1 gig discs, the 1 gig discs were put into the classic plastic slipcases and the oversize cases are used to store rarely used discs. The big cases are also subject to shattering, cracking or breakage when taken loose inside a bag while the classic slipcases simple bend there way out of trouble
KJ_Palmer
I think I'll keep my long Hi-MD cases for any ultra length, Hi-LP mixes for travelling- if I ever get round to making any, that is. Otherwise I'll pop them into regular sized MD jewel cases and they can go in the rack... Surprising the 'free' 1GB disk that came with my NH900 didn't have the long case... hobgoblin
sounds like sony is going the way of burger king and macdonalds or something...
JavaGeek
Well, you can also see that the 1GB discs themselves are too 'plain' compared to the regular ones. my guess would be that this first generation of 1GB is more geared towards profesionals requiring extra capacity, not 'cool dudes' with red discs.

Why can't I be a cool dude w/ a 1GB disc? They BETTER make multi-colored ones next year, or I'm gonna'... order more regular MDs!
