Christopher
Wow, very nice. I've seen it before, but I now have it in my room. This all started when I purchased a 27' hdtv-ready CRT for my girl for Christmas [i paid less than the linked price], which is probably a present that will benefit her more than myself [honest! ]. Regardless, I was able to get a free hdtv cable box upgrade since I work for a cable company. They gave me a Motorola box that has firewire, USB, optical digital out, component out, s-video, dvi, DOCSIS 1.0 / 1.1 capable integrated cable modem and more. Talk about living in the 21st century! I'm currently using component cables [wow], and the quality of the hdtv programming is stunning. I'll sometimes switch to a 16:9 aspect ratio, but I usually keep it on 4:3 for usual viewing. Everything is so crisp and clear it's really fantastic - and sports look so good I actually find myself watching them, even if I don't have interest in the game. It's definitely going to be slick when hdtv becomes the standard in the US during 2006. Could higher resolution television and beyond make us into drones? Sure seems so. p.s. this is the box I have: http://www.google.com/search?q=DCT6200

jadeclaw
Expect that loophole to be closed soon. But something new is in the works: GNU Radio Yes, software defined radio, that learns new tricks by simply adding new software - including HDTV. No wonder, that Hollywood is less than excited and tries to use the corrupt political system again. From the GNU Radio-Site: Every revolution has its political issues. Free software for building radios is troublesome to some people. In the US, we've run into opposition from the Motion Picture Association of America and its attempt with the Broadcast Flag to restrict the kinds of receivers that can be built for over-the-air digital TV. The US Federal Communications Commission has issued a Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) concerning Cognitive Radio Technologies and Software Defined Radios. Several troublesome issues are raised in the NPRM, including restricting the sale of high-speed digital-to-analog converters, requirements for digital signatures or similar methods to keep unauthorized software out of software radio hardware and new restrictions on radios built for the amateur radio market. Bananatree
That's a good deal for HDTV, it seemed the canadian market is only interested in giant TVs with HDTV, and cheaper TVs aren't being enabled with HDTV. It really sucks as I'd enjoy getting a component system going, or even S-Video for that matter! Without over stepping my budget too far. Christopher
Component is very nice. For those of you not keen on it, it's basically a cable connection for each color - red, green and blue. This delivers a very quality picture. I am interested in DVI, but unfortunately, the television I purchased my girlfriend doesn't support it. I haven't tried ripping signal from the cable box via firewire to the computer yet, maybe I'll try that when I get off work tonight. Additionally, since my box has a digital out, I've been enjoying digital music on Hi-MD via the music only cable channels. Really awesome stuff. Bananatree
Wow, that GNU stuff sounds rather cool. I think I would enjoy a customizable radio box dealio. Back to HDTV, DVI is the computer like output no? That'd be cool to hook up your iMac or similar to your HDTV and watch your works in progress. Christopher
DVI is the best absolute connection at the moment for HDTV. There is a new type of DVIish connection called HDMA or something of that sort, but I really question if it's all necessary. My Radeon 9800 Pro does have DVI out. I think you'd have to have DVI in to facilitate that type of transfer. Is there DVI in and out or is it one and the same? I don't even know man. :rasp:

Digital Audio, the whole HDTV signal in just one cable. Plug, and play.
Hyena
We had Voom (www.voom.com) for awhile, but we got rid of it because there weren't any HD programs that we liked, and it wasn't worth the money really. But anywho, now we just have all our game systems (PS2, Gamecube, Xbox) hooked up to the TV, and it's awesome. However, 720p with the Xbox is TERRIBLE on pretty much EVERY game, because they turn off anti-aliasing or something, I dunno. Either way, it looks really crappy, so most of the time I don't even bother. Using component over anything else for all the systems is awesome though, it most definately makes a difference, everything is crisp and clear. Leland
Cool, Kurisu. I got this one for Xmas for the family:http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP....ction_55to70TVsHas the HD tuner built in and is digital cable capable. I just plugged my cable in, no cable box, and got all the analog, digital and HDTV signals that were not scrambled. HDTV is excellent. The rose parade was incredible with the high resolution. Running games from my playstation to the 60 inch screen in wide screen mode is also very cool.

Syrius
I hate you for making me feel so inferior with my RGB monitor and 27 Inch Wega. Though in the near future I'll get a simple 30 inch HDTV CRT with DVI so I can play my PC using my new Nvidia card, SPDIF connector and DD amp. (OMG that was a lot of abbreviations. lol) Edited January 8, 2005 by Syrius
Leland
I wasn't really trying to one-up anybody just share the joy of new toys.I got lucky when I bought it at Frys. They had a special price in the computer, but not on the display floor. When the clerk went to ring it up, I saved $800 without having to ask.Now if only there was more HD content. When it's on and well done, it is incredible at any screen size, as kurisu says.
