Sparky191
If you are recording SP onto a standard MD reformatted to HiMD. How much recording time do you have. SP being better quality than HiSP from what I'm reading here.
yakko
Two thoughts come to mind. One, the unit won't let you record in SP on a Hi-MD formatted disc (only PCM, Hi-SP, or Hi-LP). Two, if you use SonicStage to move record in SP, folks have said that SS converts it to LP2 before going to SP. That's not better sound quality at all. I haven't checked for myself yet, but I think you would get comparable sound quality between SP and Hi-SP based on what others have said here. Either way, I would suggest trying for yourself and seeing what works for you.
dex Otaku
Indeed, there is no SP recording in HiMD mode. If you are recording from analogue or optical in on the unit itself, you can either choose to use netMD mode [with true SP, MDLP, type R and type S, correct?] or HiMD mode [with PCM, HiSP, and HiLP].From SinceStage, there is no actual SP mode. You can, however, write any [atrac] format that you can encode to in SS to a HiMD-formatted disc, meaning, for example, that you can use LP2 [as many do]. daremo
Just use HiSP. You still get a little over 2 hours on the regular 80 min disc and it sounds a lot better than standard SP.

And of course no 1GByte discs. And no upload either. And no real SP from SonicStage. My advice: Use Hi-SP. And PCM for some very critical recordings. hanz0
how long do you get with PCM on a 1GB disc?
KJ_Palmer
^ 94.55 minutes. That's a good time IMO, about equivalent to a 90 minute tape, for us old-timers who can remember (and still use) such things... Some think that standard SP is better than Hi-SP, by the way. Personally I don't think there's a significant difference in quality... Especially with SonicStage the way it is
hanz0
what do you guys mean by "formatted" disc? if i put a blank disc in the player, is it not formatted?
ROMBUSTERS
when you place a standard blank 60/74/80min MD into a HiMD it will be formated in the disc mode that the HiMD is set to (default HiMD). HiMD and MD are incompatible formats but both can be played on a HiMD unit
