Tempting, but I think my next Sony Walkman purchase should include support for the new A3+ bitrates - or at least a firmware upgrade to support them. I have a E507, HD3 and NH900 I can't use most of the new bitrates with, save 192 on the HD3 (from reports I've read.)

^ I still disagree with that... There is no reason to assume it won't be safe to use another battery just because it isn't Sony branded. Battery is just a power source and if it is the same chemistry type it charges the same way... It's almost like saying only use Sony AA batteries in Sony devices that use AAs...

The only thing I'd be aware of is, often (not always but often), if the cell is Made in China (a lot of the cheap ones are) it will likely not have the capacity it says as a lot of those cells are overrated. That may or may not lead to a noticeable reduction in operation time...

Your Explanation seems fine .Now I`m also forced to think why it will be dangerous to use non sony battery ..

Its fine to use non sony batteries if it says its 'suitable for' hd5 or whatever. Just be wary of batteries that could be sony 'knock-offs' pretending to be sony batteries. I've had a few sony knockoff gumstick batteries and they just expanded in my minidisc portables after charging, dodgy stuff.

Thanks mercury in flames now i will not be afraid to use Non Sony Batteries. If the specification are same than it does not matter whether we use Sony or Non Sony Batteries

Hmm.

I bought two batteries for my HD5 from this site (www.global-batteries.ca) a few months back for 19.99$ and they shipped for almost nothing and in the end it came to about 40$ for two batteries (awsome deal) but now they want 43$ each for them?!? Short supply perhaps?

Has anybody seen them cheaper? (these are canadian prices, please be aware)

Some SonyEricsson phones (at least k800, k790) use the same battery type as the NW-HD5.

However, the voltage is different by 0.1V due to different battery technology but that should not matter.

That's right. A Sony Ericsson BST-33 battery, which has a capacity of 900mAh or 950mAh,can be used in the HD5.

The BST-33 battery is used in Sony Ericsson W300,W900,W950,Z530,Z800,M600,K610,K790,K800,V800,P990,etc.It has a longer battery life and is much easier to purchase.
