Hi there happy.gif, I want to buy the RM-MC40ELK universal remote, however, due to Im a non-US credit card holder I can order it from Audiocubes, so my option is PlanetMinidisc.com. I'd like to know if this store has good ratings or if the store is a trusted one. are US$100 bucks really worthy?? mellow.gif

It's definitely well worth the price and a damn shame Sony doesn't include it with the NH900 in the US. You can also look at

www.bargaining4all.com

www.audiocubes.com

I got mine from bargaining4all and it's come in handy many times recording live shows. I wouldn't do it any other way since the NH900 has no backlit function on the unit itself. Again, definitely recommended if you are doing any live recording (you can monitor and adjust the recording levels with it once you switch to manual recording levels)

I meant I CAN NOT ORDER IT FORM AUDIOCUBES tongue.gif ... Thanks for the info, so now I must start to sell my old CD receiver Eclipse, my discman Panasonic and other few things to cover the cost: remote+shipping Miami+shipping South America+taxes happy.gif

The 40ELK actually has terrible ergonomics. It's difficult to use with one hand, it's difficult to use with two hands unless you have tiny hands. It may have 3 lines of display, but they don't display enough at a time.

The other remotes (RM-MC33EL and RM-MC38ELK) are much better in ergonomics, ease of use with one hand and looks (sexy little silvered cylinders).

But I guess for recording use, the 40ELK would really be your only logical choice.

Have you even used a 40ELK? Er..

The reason why I ask is because the 40ELK is extremely easy to use with one hand. In fact, I primarily use it with only one. Additionally, with almost ten different ways to display information on a track [name, statistical, graphical and so forth], I am curious as to what you're referring to. I'm a bit confused as to what you mean when you say, "it doesn't display enough at a time".

I have to disagree with you. The 40ELK is a relatively easy to use remote; whether you have small or large hands or employing the remote with one or two hands.

Well... the buttons are on the side. And on the back. How am I supposed to push the buttons on the back, without taking the remote off my shirt? The scroll wheel is oriented in a weird spot. The display is not wide enough to display more than one word at a time unlike the iRiver and iAudio M3 remote.

And yes I used one, one that was connected to a friend's HD3.

I find the stick remotes easier to use. They don't display enough either unless you get the Japanese-only 2-line ones.

The remote isnt that bad. The display seems easy to read, the buttons seem comfortable and easy to use according to the pictures, besides only using it, one can say whether it is good or not for sure. However, once I pay for it I stick with it comfortable or not tongue.gif ...

p.s. On the top of all things it is a cool add-on for any Sony portable player indeed.

Find questions with respect to the remote RM-MC40ELK:
  • Will the RM-MC40ELK remote work with a mznh600d Hi-md player?
  • Is technical data on that remote published in English on the Internet?
  • Can someone recommend audiocubes.com which appears to have the best price on that remote?
Thanks for the super posts. Best wishes

My new RM-MC40ELK from eBay ($58 + $7.50 shipping from California) arrived today. Must time these Theraputic Acquisitions to arrive while the Spousal Unit is away. rolleyes.gif Same seller seems to have plenty, they've been selling for $58 - $70 from what I've seen, so I seem to have lucked out at the low end. His next auction to end is here, I think. Shipping was prompt, so he's OK in my book.

Definitely an improvement in overall functionality over the stick remote for my NH900, though as others have said, you still have to set recording mode from MD unit first. But if you're going for stealth, you can set recording mode in the head...then you can just put the MD safely in a pocket and carry on from there with just the remote, including setting record level, pausing, and adding track marks during concerts (with the p-mode button...took me a bit to figger that out)...and see what the heck you're doing with the nice blue back-lit remote.

$58 bucks!!... That's really good deal, mine cost US$98 but I have no complains... There is a guy on Ebay who sold that remote plus 1750mAh prismatic battery for about US$90 if I recall well, but cuz I cant use Paypal I couldnt order it from Ebay, so my options were Audiocubes and Planetminidisc, I didnt realize then that DAPC sells it as well (~US$80). Anyway, the thing is I have it I love it and that is what it matters.

Changing topic, there has been two different times when a person comes by and tells me: "wow, such a nice HANDS-FREE, where did you buy it?" then I tell him/her that it is not a cell phone accessory but a Minidisc remote control and then his/her face tells me "what hell are you talking about?!"... just there is when I feel nice laugh.gif, however that everybody knows what is a Minidisc would be good but at the same time it is good to feel unique wink.gif

How do you add the track marks with the p-mode button? Just pressing it adds a track mark?

That is correct, just press it once while recording and it'll add a track mark. As Doug McKenzie (of Great White North) would say, "Beauty, eh?"
