flaxius
Hi,I'm trying to find a UK outlet where I can get hold of one of these fantastic little beasties.Has anyone in the UK managed to get hold of one at all?I asked in the Sony Centre on Tottenham Court Road the other day and they advised me to go to computer fair down the road....... Not entirely sure they knew what I was on about.I've also emailed SonyStyle, but am still waiting for a response after some weeks. Thanks, flaxius
Christopher
What's the most you would pay?
flaxius
I'm not sure what you're getting at here.I know in the US you can get them for around $80 - $90 which works out (at the current exchange rate) as being pretty reasonable. If they were £60 ($110) I'd consider it, but Sony decided to sell them for £90 ($170) I'd have to think a bit more.flaxius

Latexxx
If you order it outside of EEA, you'll need to pay customs fee & vat when it arrives. So it is best to go back to local Sony retailer with the model number.
Christopher
Are you sure, Latexxx? Audiocubes marks all packages as "gifts" to avoid such woes..
Latexxx
Are you sure, Latexxx? Audiocubes marks all packages as "gifts" to avoid such woes..←It depends. In Finland, for example, the price limit for a "gift" is €45.
flaxius
Hmmm I'm not sure about the tax thing. I had a look around and found this HM Customs and Excise website which states all items over £18 ($33) will be taxed.I'll keep looking for a while and see if I can find anyone in Europe.flaxius
1kyle
Cool,I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks←I've just ordered one as well -- I want it to store pictures taken with a Professional digital camera when I'm out in the field and don't have access to power and my CF card is card is full. Will let you know1 ---when it arrives2 --- how much duty to pay (in UK)Note --often can get tax wavers if goods are marked "Educational Material" as there's 0% VAT and 0% import duty in the UK on Educational Material (and you ARE using this device to store photos on for future lecture demos etc !!!).In any case on 89 USD the customs duty will be very small and still cheaper than the UK Sony price --added to which you haven't even had to source the UK stuff either.I haven't even SEEN these in the UK yet but looks a great idea--Now what we need is a 2 or 4 GB HI-MD. !!BTW if you are using these check that it works for your model number From the web site Compatible Models: MZ-NH1/MZ-NH3D -K Edited February 13, 2005 by 1kyle
flaxius
Thanks 1kyle,I'll wait 'til you feedback on yours then.I've seen pics of it plugged in to a (what lloked like an MZ-NH700/800) also this http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DNA/faq/fa...p?l=en&m=MCMDR1 link seems to indicate it will work ok on any HI-MD (with USB connection).Perhaps you could let me know what you get in the box etc when it arrives? You're right about the price though, I think it's reasonable even with VAT on it!Thanks for your reply, flaxius
Michael1980
IMO there is no reason why it should not work with any HiMD equipment (except the player offcourse).

You can end up paying 30-40% extra, but this is extreme and more often it ends up around 25%.Educational is an interesting idea - I'll have to look into that, but it may not get you off the VAT. atrain
my sister's been living in the uk for three years, from sending her stuff all the time my understanding is electronics can incur 27% import duties if not declared. here in australia if the marked/insured value is less than $400 [iirc] then they don't open or charge duties.
