A GIFTED singer has had her life's work stolen - just days after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Devastated Mel Vondrau thought her world had caved in when doctors told her she had cervical cancer.

And six days later, thieves looted a van containing her valuable equipment and precious demo recordings.

Without them, the heartbroken musician is unable to work.

Ms Vondrau, 32, said: "That stuff is irreplaceable. The PA system was worth £5,000 but I'm not even so worried about that.

"It's my backing tracks and vocals. I need them for my gigs.

"These are things I've been recording since I was 19."

Ms Vondrau, a specialist in pop, jazz and R'n'B, had parked her van outside a friend's in Burbage Road, Dulwich, on Wednesday last week.

The previous Friday, doctors had broken the news that she had a cancerous tumour of the cervix.

Distraught

Distraught and facing weeks of chemotherapy sessions, the singer vowed to press on with performing.

With her career possessions loaded in the back of a van, Ms Vondrau planned to spend the night in Dulwich because she had a gig in Herne Hill the following day. She was also due for an urgent hospital appointment.

The thieves struck some time between 7pm and 8am. Ms Vondrau, now living in Stevenage, Herts, said: "I need that equipment to gig, but it's the backing tracks that can't be replaced.

"What hurts so much is that whoever took them can't even use them.

"They're probably dumped in a skip or a bin.

"Please, if anyone can return at least the demo recordings, I would be over the moon."

The theft has been reported to Southwark police, who are investigating. Call them on 020 7232 6633.

seems to be a common enough occurance, Bono of U2's laptop was stolen a while ago, had all new songs on it... he got it back in the end...

Not to be a total ass, but she at least she'll know now -

always

make

backups,

and

never

carry/use

your originals.

I'm as much shocked by her not having backups as I am by her using a lossy medium like MiniDisc.

The cervical cancer... now that's just rough, but you never know, there might be a story behind it.

Always trust the newsmedia to bring out the violins for a good sob story.

OK, well, No! The media don't bring out the violins for a good sob story! mad.gif

I am the artist that you've made that totally stupid comment about and I'm actually totally pssed off that you could even make an assumption like that! I'm glad my stuff was stolen! It was a total blessing. I was diagnosed as being very ill and yet was still booking gigs left right and centre. With no gear, I could focus on my health and getting myself back into what I really wanted to do - my own original music. The loss was more my lyrics book and not so much the minidisc player. I got my focus back. Am well on my way to a full recovery healthwise. I filmed a music video a few weeks after the incident in the very same area that the gear was taken from - Dulwich Village and surrounds - and this will be used for a promotional campaign in Indonesia and Arabia where I have prospective album licensing deals. So please! Spare me the violins bit! Survivors always land on their feet and they take off running!

I wish you only the best. Should anybody find that minidisc! Bin it! I've written new songs and don't miss it! Big Hugs and Blue Skies to you all. I'm off to sing at the Rock in the Park in Stevenage this afternoon, so have better fish to fry. Life is for living, So Get On With It! Mel Vondrau.

nice to see a decent resolution, even if it is from hard work & not the result of the gear being returned. thanks for the update mel & good luck with the career & your health.

I know this is an Old post , but ,............ I decided to search her name , Geez , What an absolutely stunning woman .

She has a Great voice , and is incredibly beautiful . I hate that the world is so disparate that we never get to see artists like this who are hidden from us by whatever Political , Corporate , Media controlled Barriers

The offending person in this post was truly a Cad ............

She needs a good song writer , something that would fit her persona , I have listened to samples on iTunes , and at CD Baby

She just needs some really good songs , and that would be that .

Update

I have had a couple conversation with her , and she has backed off of the music scene , and is doing something a little different now . But her health has returned and she is doing good.
