hanz0
ok, i recorded a song from the opening act with the manuel volume setting at 20/30, with the attenuator on it ofcourse . anywho, i went to the bathroom at intermission and listened to it..noticed it was a little low, so i took a chance and up'ed it one notch to 21/30. the recording came out wonderful. i think it couldve been maybe one or two notches higher, but i cant complain for being safe. i was right near a larger speaker and could feel the bass shaking through my body. and none if it overloaded the recording at all. it may not sound professional, but there is no distortion and its really clear. thanks so much to everyone that has helped me. you dont know how much this recording meant to me. thanks so much!specs i used:sony mz-nh900SP BMC-2 Mics1GB Hi-MD discHi-SP ModeMic Sensitivity = LowManuel Recording Volume = 21/30Radio Shack Volume Attenuator = Max Level
Bananatree
It is good to know that your recording went well.I'll take your life with a side of fries, and a coke, thanks for using the Minidisc.org Community Forum j/k
cbud
Did you have a battery box?Did you go mic-in or line-in?Doesn't the attenuator prevent plug in power from going to the mics?
hanz0
Did you have a battery box?Did you go mic-in or line-in?Doesn't the attenuator prevent plug in power from going to the mics?←no i did not use a battery box. i plugged the mics straight in the mic-in. umm, im a noob at this, i dont really know what you meant with the third question....i used the attenuator so the recording wouldnt overload

Aything pas 18 and I start to get a level of distortion.I suppose it could come down to different mics

greenmachine
Doesn't the attenuator prevent plug in power from going to the mics?←It doesn't prevent it, but can lower the voltage, even at full setting.Using a batterybox between the attenuator and the mics should be theoretically better, because the mics get a proper voltage in any case, practically - i don't know if it makes an obvious difference, at least it doesn't hurt to use it if you already own a battery box, even with a microphone input with 'plug-in-power'.The usual voltage from such a microphone input is about 2.5 volts average, whereas a battery box works with 9 volts usually. Electret microphones are supposed to work potentially better at higher voltages (up to 10 v). Edited May 14, 2005 by greenmachine
