Edit*Hey guys, I will be going overseas at the end of November, and basically want to ask all you guys of you knowledge of some good shops/locations to visit while I am in certain locations. (I have never been overseas before:D)

My Itinerary is (sorry for incorrect spelling :P):

England – centre of England, Oxford, Southampton and Brighton

Centre of Pairs

Centre of Rome

Centre of Venice

Switzerland – Lucerne

Centre of Florence

I know of all the tourist sites and all of those locations. I am more interested in the electronic side of things :P as well as music shops for musical instruments. i.e. electronic shops, cheap retailers…

  1. I am wanting to purchase a Trombone Gig Bag, (brand called "BAM") wondering if any of you musician buffs know of any store locations near Rue des Boulets 75011? Where I would be able to purchase the case?

Also a general question about exchange rates etc.

  2. $AUS to English pounds is like "times $1.5 Aussie dollars” So it is more expensive to buy things in England...

On the way to and from Europe I will be stopping at both Singapore airports for a 2-4 hr stop over...

Are there many shops/Duty free shops in the Singapore airports where you can purchase Mobile Phones, PDA's, Cameras? Those kinds of things? (We aren't allowed past customs)

  3. And my last question :P - do you know if it would be cheaper to purchase things at the Singapore airport, or back in the Australian Duty Free shops?
Thanks very much guys!

Andrew

No-one? Anyone... sad.gif  unsure.gif

I would love to help... but here in Brussels there isn't a lot to find! (no 2nd gen Hi-MD, no real nice electronics stores etc...) and I haven't really gone on a shopping spree in those cities you mention sad.gif

We get a lot of our electronics from Germany though or from overseas (which is N-Am in our case tongue.gif )

sorry, Volta

I haven't been to Paris for a long while, but for Electronics you might want to try somewhere like Fnac (Rue Montparnasse and elsewhere) - basically a large record, books, electronics store.

Venice - in Venice the old city there is no electronics shops - you would have to go on to the mainland to Mestre which is where the modern commerical part of Venice is.

Florence - again the old city is not really the place to find electronics stores you would need to go out of town into some of the retail parks. Somewhere like "Trony" (which I think it may have chnaged it's name to "UniEuro").

Rome - there are quite a lot of electronics stores in the centre of Rome, most are small businesses as opposed to chain stores - you can quite often find good deals, but to be honest there's not a lot of MD stuff I've come across apart from blanks.

Switzerland is pretty expensive. I don't know Lucerne though so again no real info.

Thanks mate for all that!

I think I will be in the 'old' parts of Venice and Florence.. so yeh :P

As far as I remeber, there are no new parts of Venice or Florence.

I do seem to remeber some electronics shops fairly close to St. Marks square area

Happy trails,

Bob

The newer part of Venice (also where is the airport is) is called Mestre. It's on the mainland, across the long bridge from the island. Florence historical center is all fairly mediaeval but you can find more "modern" areas in the suburbs and out of town.
