Win Nmd And Hi-md

I'm transferring audio from my MZ-NH700, and Win NMD seems to work fine, if a bit slow when it closes the file. However, when I insert a Hi-MD disc, Win NMD suddenly fails to see the MD player anymore. I have to "eject" the notification area, and then physically disconnect the MD player. I can't seem to get it to work with Hi-MD at all.

Has anyone had any success with this? Or is there a better way of transferring from MD to PC for Hi-MD?

I MADE THE TRANSLATION TO SPANISH OF KLUKA'S WINMD SO I KNOW THE APPLICATION VERY WELL. I AM SORRY TO INFORM YOU THAT THERE IS NO WAY YET TO UPLOAD TRACKS IN HI MD MODE USING WINMD. CRISTIAN KLUKAS TOLD ME THAT HE WAS GOING TO WORK OUT A WAY TO DO THIS. HOWEVER, YOU CAN USE ANY AUDIO CAPTURING SOFTWARE LIKE NERO SOUNDTRACKS AND THEN SPLIT THE TRACKS MANUALLY USING ANY WAVE EDITOR (LIKE NERO WAVE EDITOR)...

Using WinNMD with HiMD would just defeat the point of HiMD.

WinNMD was designed to help facilitate the ANALOGUE transfer of music from NetMD to PC. With HiMD, you can do digital transfers via the USB of your music using SonicStage. No need to use WinNMD.

ZerodB. You don't get the point... Imagine you have an extensive library of your favourite music in your 1gB disc and suddenly all the info in your computer gets lost... or you buy a new PC or you just want to get that music and make a compilation to record a cd in another computer... What can you do? Only real-time upload would be the solution. WinNmd is excellent for uploading (in real time) because it automatically uploads the tracks with all the info (names, tags, etc) and you can set the application to automatically convert the audio files into mp3. It also allows you to leave the program running in the background while you surf or work in something else and listen to the music you upload. No need to manually split tracks or set volumes. Winmd does it all.

Great aint it?

Indeed Andicillo, WinNMD could be useful for the things you describe and I do not want to argue with you at all... but there are other options:

- say you have still got your recordings on HiMDisc, but not on a PC anymore... just plug in the USB and use TotalRecorder to make a realtime digital copy of them... ok, you still have got to title them and add trackmarks, but it is a digital copy and not an analogue one (and with HiMD lister you can even get the title info from the disc I believe)... (but I would really advise to always keep back ups on something else than MD, which brings me to my second point)

- even more important to point out (again tongue.gif ) use the wav converter (or Marcnet's alternative) as this actually could eliminate the entire "oops I just lost all my own recordings as SS won't let me upload them twice"-issue... if you make a habit of uploading the safe way as described here (and don't let the title fool you, it is also very useful if you do not care about gaps laugh.gif ), and do not edit on the machine prior to uploading and save all your recordings as (un-DRM'ed!) wav's which you then back up (as FLAC or another non-lossy codec to save space) you will never need a second upload again.

as wav isnt DRM'ed, you can edit, rename, copy, devide/combine, whatever you want with them including reimporting in SS -> MD or, after burning to CD, SB -> MD

and you are free to copy them to CD's and other PC's as much as you like, just keep one unedited copy of the wav (as FLAC or whatever but no DRM'ed stuff like atrac and no lossy type like MP3) as a master in a safe place (i.e. not on a HD that could crash tongue.gif and definitely not as music files on MD as that is not a safe way to store anything at all due to Sony's copy-fearing-limitations)

I have been converting to wav and backing up a master right after uploading since my very first recording and I have never - not even after I bought a new portable and didn't back up my SS library - wished I could upload something again (though I do think that the limitation itself is silly and actually outright wrong from Sony)

so my point: if you learn to live with the limitations and work with the options...HiMD is great laugh.gif (and WinNMD actually isn't necessary anymore as zerodB and Dex already mentioned)

greetings, Volta

Yeah. My situation is this. I've done a net radio show since 1998, and I have about 45 MDs with the shows from 2001 and on. Most are MDLP recordings made with my old R900, some were transferred via Sonicstage on my N505, and since the end of 2004 I've been transferring them via my NH800.

Now I've finally decided that I should keep high quality MP3 backups as well as my MD backups, and I'm having to transfer the audio back to the PC. I'm working my way backwards, and when I hit the oldest ones I'll try transferring directly via Sonic Stage as they were recorded in true analogue.

The newest recordings were done on the NH800 and the discs are formatted Hi-MD. It'd be nice to have a way to transfer the audio back to my PC without having to resort to un-automated recording with Adobe Audition. But there's only 20 or so 45 minute tracks to do anyhow. I'd love to transfer them via Sonicstage, but Sony's DRM gets in the way.

Win NMD has been a godsend. It may be 1:1 transfer, but at least I don't have to monitor it, and I can still use my PC while it's working. I've gotten over 100 45 minute shows transferred in the last week.

The software itself needs a buit of polishing though. When completing a track, I find it takes quite a while to "close" it and move on to the next. This may be because each of my shows is recorded as a single 45 minute track. It could also use a bit of idiot proofing so that you can't over write a file without getting prompted or some such.

Yeah, problem is I use MD as my archival storage. I transfer the .WAV from my PC to Hi-MD via SS. Can't transfer back even once.

I guess when it comes time to get the 20 or so shows in Hi-MD back onto my PC (Thank god I decided to start making MP3 copies as well back in February) I'll just have to use Adobe Audition and record the whole disc as one file then make my own track marks so to speak.
