A Guide to Sony Network WALKMAN & Discman Remotes

Question

Having just bought an NW-A3000, I looked at the Remote Control that Sony is releasing for it and wasn't impressed. Having had minidisc players up to now with decent LCD remotes, I felt Sony's A Series remote was a little lacking :ol_rolleyes: .

In a bid to find suitable remotes with more features, I've now tested 3 LCD remotes from minidisc players, and can offer the following info if you're considering purchasing a remote control for your A Series player:

RM-NWS1 - the A Series remote: (see other topics) non-LCD that does Track +/-, Play/Stop & Volume +/- & Hold, and that's about it.

RM-MC11EL: 1 line LCD remote with backlight that has all the RM-NWS1 buttons + Play Mode (shuffle, repeat, repeat 1 song, etc), Sound (change EQ modes), Display (toggle track length, position) & Stop. The LCD shows Battery meter, Playing symbol, Track number, Track length, Track position, Volume bar, EQ mode & Play Mode symbols. When pressing 'play mode' the words 'huffle', 'Repeat', '1 Song', & 'Normal' are displayed as they changed. NB: The only things that don't work as they would on a minidisc player are that it sometimes takes several button presses to wake up the LCD display (always appears when changing tracks though), and the track/artist name isn't displayed.

RM-MC33EL: 1 line LCD remote with backlight that has all the RM-MC11EL buttons and functions + Folder +/- buttons. I haven't figured these out yet, but they seem to skip either 1 or a random number songs.

RM-MC40ELK: 3 line LCD remote with backlight. It works pretty much the same as the MC11EL but can display track, album and artist names. It also has a jog dial on the front but it doesn't seem to do anything on the A series.

For more info on most of the LCD remotes Sony have released, take a look here: MDCF's Sony LCD Remotes and our very own A Guide to Sony Network WALKMAN & Discman Remotes

I hope this helps :ol_biggrin:

Well the RM-MC33EL works BUT more or less it is useless. It doesn't display the song name, nor album, nothing, only time elapsed and track #. I believe repeat, shuffle and the folder buttons do work as well, skipping 10 songs ahead or backwards. I was initially planning on using the remote, but sadly gave up. lol The player looks too good to be hidden away in my bag.

The RM-MC35ELK is the Kanji version of the RM-MC38EL not the older 33.

From what I understand, the RM-MC35ELK displays the album name etc, as it works in the same way as the MC40ELK, which I've tested and can confirm displays track names etc, the main difference between the two being the 40ELK has a 3 line display and a jog dial (which didn't seem to do anything).

I'd say get the 35ELK or 40ELK remote, but in no way are the 11EL and 33EL "more or less useless" and they offer a lot over the A-Series-specific RM-NWS1 non-LCD, limited buttons remote.

I'm using the 11EL at the moment. I listen to various types of music and often want to change the EQ to suit the type of music I'm listening to, and for me, pressing one dedicated EQ button is FAR better than getting my player out, using more than half a dozen button presses to navigate to change the EQ setting, followed by more buttons to get back to Now Playing, and then sticking it back in my pocket.

Sorry to resurrect a post that's been dormant for more than a year, but has there been any conclusive information/evidence about the compatibility between NW-Ax000 and the RM-MC55ELK?

This post (and other relevant posts in this forum, including the Guide to Remotes...) suggests that the MC35ELK and MC55ELK are pretty much identical, only the 55ELK supports more languages.

So I went for it and got an MC55 off eBay. Most controls work but the display doesn't show anything at all when used with a NW-A3000.

Anybody had a similar experience?

Is there anything equivalent to a Service Manual for Remotes? There must be a way to make that display work with the NW-Ax000 series.
