HiMD USB cables

Hi. I´ve heard that some HiMD units come with a very short USB-cable.

I´m just wondering if it´s possible to use any normal USB cable to connect a HiMD unit to your PC?

Currently I only have need for two cables, one for the mouse and the other for my digital camera and my brothers Zen Micro.

It would be nice to keep the amount of cables to a minimum.

You will be fine as long as you employ a "Type A to Mini-B" USB cable.

It's hard to tell from your picture, but is the "B" end of that cable the same as what I've attached here?

In any event, I've recently purchased one of these and have been pretty happy with it. I'm pretty mobile so it's nice to have little trinkets like that.

The only exception that I know of is the MZ-NH1, that uses a custom cable. All other Hi-MD stuff uses that mini usb plug. (Have not seen that camera Hi-MD unit yet so not sure on that one).

Yep, the MZ-DH10P has the same USB cable as the NH-1. A custom cable if you will. But the advantage is that is supplied with 2 of them. One long and one short.

My experience is that some USB cables seem to be an easier fit than others into the socket on my NH900 - so I try to use the one which is the easiest fit (which just happens to be the one which came with the NH900) in order to avoid stressing the socket and PCB in the MD recorder. I have a Nokia one which is a pretty easy fit too, but the one which came with my Olympus camera is a scary tight fit so I don't use that...

Peace,

Michael

Damn, my NH-1 didn't, only came with one cable. I've been meaning to look at getting a spare too, anyone know where to get them cheapest? i don't care how long they are, just one as a spare in my backpack.

Or anyone want to sell their second one? lol

I think you have to go right to Sony for that one.

You could try some of the major retailers, maybe Belkin makes one.

Good luck,

Bob

I use the 'Hi-MD' cable for my digital camera as well.

At the end of the day, it's just a USB lead (apart from those 'clamp' things that don't really do anything.....)

You inspired me to run out and grab one of those. In Canada I saw similar ones at Future Shop, but they were going for $25 to $35 a piece. I found the Source by Circuit City (this company has just come into Canada and has taken over all of the old Radio Shack outlets that were located in Malls) had one made by NexxTech that cames with a travel kit and interchangable ends (including 4 and 5 pin minis), so it works with my MD units and my camera for a mere $20.

here it is in theire catalogue if you are interested.
